OOC: Well, it's been a while since I posted here, hasn't it?
Just so you all know what's going on ... I can only account for about half of the last month or so. I mean, there's been nothing major or critical going on, but at the same time ... there's always been
something preventing me from coming online for more than fifteen or twenty minutes at a time.
Most recently ... well, there was an article linked on Yahoo yesterday about laptops going bad. According to this article (which, like I said, was on Yahoo, so it's accuracy is open to debate), most laptops develop hardware problems and die within the first three years. And one of the worst is Hewlett-Packard; just over one-fourth (25.6%) die within a year.
The reason I bring this up is ... well, guess what kind of laptop I've got? It stays working for about fifteen to twenty minutes (if I bend it into a pretzel, then use my elbow to weigh down one corner), then completely freezes. Rebooting is difficult (there's no guarantee that I'll actually be able to
start the thing, let alone actually get into Windows), and even then, there's no guarantee that the
wireless will work; half the time, it doesn't, or it conks out mid-page.
Right now, I'm got my father-in-law's former laptop, which isn't exactly portable; the monitor burned out (which is why he gave it to me in the first place), and I have to hook it to a spare monitor in my office. HAL is in pieces, pending me finding some new RAM chips and enough time for a full-scale rebuild (yes, I burned through another motherboard -- BlckRobe, if you're reading this, spare me the wisecracks). And the computers at work tend to lose 'Net connection every time it rains -- which it's been doing a lot lately. None of this is really an excuse for the last month or so, but I want you all to know why I've not been RPing properly.
BUT ... I'm here now, for whatever that's worth. I have
no idea what I'm going to do, but I can wing it, at least. And I'd like to share something I found on Motifake a while back. I can't get the image to display properly, so please,
clicky linky. I think you'll enjoy.
And now ... back to the story.
BIC: *For several weeks, the man known as Dragonbait has lived on the colossal flying monstrosity SpellJammer. And it's not a
bad life, as such; he's had plenty of opportunity to get to know the moogles and make a few observations on their lives. He's also had the chance to visit the surface more than once, and his spartan quarters are slowly becoming filled with books. On the other hand, the majority of the "staff" (for want of a better phrase) seem to be constantly missing; he's not seen Ontaros, nor Silver, nor any of the others, in quite some time. Even Niana, pleasant in spite of her demonic nature, has been conspicuously absent. And that leads to boredom.*
*Now, with over two centuries behind him, one would reasonably assume that boredom and 'Bait are well aquainted. And they are ... but that's not to say that he enjoys it. Familiarity breeds contempt, and he
suffers, almost physically, from boredom. So when he enters the Main Hall today, heading for the dial-and-door to teleport back to the surface of the world, it's in a desperate attempt to find something,
anything, to occupy his mind. On a whim, he spins the dial rapidly, turning away so as not to see where the door will take him this time.*
