When Syrus didn't say anything for a while, Skye looked up at him worriedly - and just in time to see when he did finally speak.

She smiled softly at him as she built up the keep's walls.

"I feel safe with you," she told him honestly. "I know that I cannot fight, and that you cannot fight ... but that is not what is important. I just feel safe when I am with you."

She couldn't say why ... that was just the way of it.

Syrus smiled again, nodding but saying nothing as he himself started on building up one of the keeps walls, making sure it was thick enough so it wouldn't crumble down into a pile of sand.

Skye smiled suddenly as she reached for another pile of sand.

"Maybe someday I can take you to see my great grandmother's castle," she said softly. "I have one uncle who is not so nice, but everybody else there is very nice. They can talk to me too even if they do not know English, because everybody there can talk with their hands."

She giggled and looked up at Syrus. "Would you like to go sometime?"

She would of course have to ask her mother about it first, but she thought it would be fun if the two of them could go - or even if they went with the entire family or something.

Syrus laughed a bit.

"That sounds like it would be fun. I'd love to go," he said before going back to his wall for a few moments. After finishing up one section he looked up again.

"You'll have to let me know about certain customs and whatnot before I go though. I don't want to offend anyone after all"

Skye blinked curiously at Syrus. "Cut ... somes?" she asked, her brow furrowing slightly. "What ... is that word?"

She tried to think about it, feeling it in her mouth, but she couldn't figure it out.

"Customs," Syrus said again. "They are the things certain races, nations, or even familys do that are different then other places or people...for example, while most people think slurping soup is rude, some cultures think it is a compliment," he said, trying best to explain it.

Skye blushed, suddenly realizing the mistake she had made. Yes, of course she knew customs - she just hadn't seen it right.

"Oh, yes," she giggled in embarrassment. "Well ... for me there is no big custom, but I know other people there use customs. Like ... at home or with family there, we just talk to each other normally ... but when we are there ... sometimes people call us different things ..."

She wondered sometimes if it wasn't a language thing, but other times ...

But I do not think you would have to worry about that," she added thoughtfully. "Because you are my boyfriend, you do not have to be formal with me ..."

Syrus smiled. "Ok then. I just don't want anyone to get mad at me, but if you say so, I suppose I have nothing to worry about, do I?" he said with a short chuckle before looking down at their s-handy work.

"So, do you think the keep is ready yet?" he asked.

Skye smiled brightly at Syrus. "Nothing to worry about," she agreed brightly. "They are very nice people."

She looked down at their keep thoughtfully.

"I think ... it is not bad," she smiled. "Do you think we need the curtain walls? Though perhaps we should start with towers, what do you think?"

Syrus just blinked at her with a blank stare. Sure, he knew what a tower was, but a curtain wall? He had never seen an actual castle before, so he was somewhat clueless.

"Ummm...towers," he said finally, knowing he could build those without much diffuculty.

Skye nodded and smiled - but suddenly her expression turned sheepish.

"Of course ... I forgot ... we cannot build curtain walls without towers first," she said, her cheeks reddening slightly. "They connect the towers, and it would be impossible to build the towers after the walls were up already."

She averted her eyes, looking at the sand she was gathering, so that she would not have to meet Syrus's eyes. She was already feeling stupid ... she didn't need to see him laughing at her as well.

"Well at least you know how a castle works," Syrus said, not really noticing the fact that Skye was looking away, and thus making it so that she most likely did not see what he just said. "It was a lucky guess really, to build the towers first I mean."

Skye saw nothing but felt vibrations coming from Syrus, and, certain that he must be laughing at her silliness, she flushed deeply and continued to work silently on the tower she had started. But as she was thinking about it ... his vibration had been somewhat weaker than a laugh ... perhaps he hadn't been laughing at her after all?

Some of the warmth left her face and she glanced up at him hesitantly. It was immediately apparent that he had in fact not been laughing at her - because his expression was anything but humorous.

"What say?" she asked softly, pausing in her work and watching him closely. "I did not see ..."

Syrus repeated what he had said just prior, about how she at least understood how castles worked and the fact that he was just guessing about building the towers first, all the while feeling inwardly stupid about not noticing that she wasn't paying attention.

Skye's brow furrowed worriedly and she moved over to squat closer to Syrus, putting one hand on his shoulder.

"Are you all right?" she asked him softly. "You seem a little ... sad ..."

She couldn't say why she felt that way, it was just a feeling she had, an instinct: she didn't know him well enough to say for sure. After all, they had just become boyfriend/girlfriend the night before.
