Her lips twitched into a smug smile, barely viewable through the wild knots of her hair. She gave the surface of the water a smack, head canting backwards in triumph. One battle won, but the war was still on.
She bristled at his words, hand reaching out to swipe at his elongated ear, "You'd look more like one had you not these clam shells on your head!" And anyway, who'd ever heard of a rude otter? Certainly not Odette! Huffing slightly, a line formed between her brows.
"You incompetant sea urchin! What in Poseidon's name are you talking about! Odette. Odette. And for all you know, I may be a princess!"

Shinji laughed and shook his head. No...just strawberries, the melon, and some grapes. That's okay though...he said, glancing around. There's got to be a tree somewhere around here...he laughed.

Yi Xian's ear flicked out of the way and he lazily lay on his stomach, tail slashing through the air behind him. He idily wondered if it would seem like a feather duster to her but more than likely she'd never heard of such a thing. He reached out a hand to brush away the stragely hairs that fell across her vision.
"If you're a princess then I'm becoming the Alpha of my clan." The wolf smirked slightly. "And besides, what princess would be caught dead talking with a commoner. You're not supposed to mix the blue bloods and the normal folk that till the fields."

"Or... you could just have one appear...." Lena said with a nod "unless you just want to do thing the hard way..."

Shinji couldn't help but laugh - of course he could just summon one! But what would be impressive about that if there's no climbing a tree to find the perfect one? he though to himself as he smiled to Lena. Would you like one as well, lovey? he offered, shifting to his feet and looking down to her lovingly.

"No thank you, love.." Lena said before taking a bite of her sandwich.

The mermaid's attention was caught by his tail, ticking back and forth in time with each wag. It was certainly no fin and had more motion in it than that of an otter's...and it was very hard for her to pull her eyes away from it. Like the pendulum of a clock: back and forth and back and...
She shook her head, snapping from her reverie the instant she felt her scalp prickle - the feeling one got when their hair was touch by foreign hands. Lifting a hand, she swiped at his own, lips puckering indignantly.
"I must've hit that shore harder than I initially thought. None of my kind would be caught dead talking to the likes of you." She blew her cheeks out in childish anger before continuing, "You should be elated to have someone such as myself even sparing you words! I could bring good luck, you know."
She 'hmph'ed, shut her eyes, and would have crossed her arms if only she wouldn't lose her balance in the process.
"And what are you anyway, if not an otter? A seal, maybe?" Behind her mockery, she sounded genuinely curious. Remembering Kalyca, she suddenly leaned forward with wide-eyes, mouth parted like an awe-struck child.
"Are you a cat?"

Shinji nodded and bent to kiss Lena's forhead before glancing around again. Frowning at the realization there wasn't an apple tree around, he grinned and took a few steps backwards to the tree that shaded them. Think this would make a nice sized apple tree? he asked Lena, grinning wickedly as he patted the bark.

The wolf's eyes widened and he laughed at the comment. What cat could possibly be nearly as handsome or wonderful as a wolf? Wolves were noble and loyal and incredibly strong. Cats... cats were mangy little things that ignored you unless it suited them and their purposes. Not that he was baised or anything. His pendulous tail continued to move back and forth and he blinked as he looked around at her own fins, mouth slightly agape as he resisted the want to feel the scales under his claws. Were they rough or slick to the touch?
"What do you mean good luck? You don't look like any sort of Naga...unless they have a sea fairing tribe that I don't know about..."

Lena giggled some as she said "Wouldn't it be easier to just make one apple.. rather than a whole tree...?"

Shinji couldn't help but laugh, but shook his head some as he leaned against the tree. But what if we come back and I want an apple, but againw e don't have one? he grinned slightly and looked up into the tree.

Displeasure made her pout and his laughter made her bristle. Was she really so ignorant? She turned her face away, cheeks burning red with the thought of being mocked. Well...so what if she didn't know what a cat was! Kalyca would show her, and then she'd show them. She should pull on that furry, wagging fin of his in vengeance.
Instead, she mirrored his position and lowered herself onto her stomach, arms folding neatly beneath her chin; her hair was drying, she noted absently, and the loose strands were beginning to tickle her bare shoulders.
"Huh...I probably wouldn't bring good luck, actually," she responded, her tone thoughtful. However, a devilish smile curled the corners of her lips, "My clan is more known for being the embodiment of envy and temptation."

"Go ahead and make it into an apple tree then..." she said still laughing a bit. Pushing the food aside she lay down across the blanket, watching Shinji.

Shinji looked to Lena a moment, blushing softly as he watched her watch him. He smiled brightly and looked up to the tree, watching it transform from top to trunk from whatever it happened to be to a multi-coloured apple tree.
I think it's prettier that way...he laughed, jumping up to grab at a lusciously large red apple, rubbign it on his pantleg as he walked back to the blanket.

Yi Xian's ear twitched to the side then the front as he listened to her quiet words. Absently he reached into the water a twirled a finger in the clear wetness until a tiny vortex swirled there. Of all the places he'd visited so far this one was by far the most serene, and although it didn't have the bursting scents of the coffee house it had it's subtle nuances that made you need to relax.
"Envy and temptation eh? You make it sound like you're simply an object rather than a being. Do all fish act like you or is it just the girls?"
