My god, someone please help me. My computer refuses to start in anything but safe mode, and my boyfriend the Georgia Tech CS major can't figure out what's wrong. It will litterly restart itself over and over again unless I restart in safe mode, and no ammount of windows updating or driver reinstalling will fix it.
Even worse, since I unpartioned one of my hard drives (not the one with windows installed on it, this is unrelated to my problem) windows says that I need to reactivate Windows again. But I can only do this in regular mode, not safe mode. If I don't re-activate windows in 3 days, it won't let me use it. And then I don't know what the hell I can do.
Wah...

Miriam The Bat My god, someone please help me. My computer refuses to start in anything but safe mode, and my boyfriend the Georgia Tech CS major can't figure out what's wrong. It will litterly restart itself over and over again unless I restart in safe mode, and no ammount of windows updating or driver reinstalling will fix it. Possibly a virus that's just restarting your computer over and over. It's possible that it's attacking a certain set of files that aren't activated when Safe Mode is started up, therefore bypassing the virus's attack completely. Meriam The Bat Even worse, since I unpartioned one of my hard drives (not the one with windows installed on it, this is unrelated to my problem) windows says that I need to reactivate Windows again. Is this a storage hard drive? Or does the drive actually have a partition with Windows on it?

I managed to get it working somewhat again by doing a system restore to the first of the month, but all that did was allow me to get to windows without restarting on my third attempt, by picking "use the last setting that worked". The hard drive I departitioned was a formally external storage hard drive that I had to stick in my computer after my boyfriend took the case to fix his own broken external storage hard drive. Actually... one of the partitions was a back up of my old laptop, that contains back up files of windows. But I think they're compressed and not installed on the actual hard drive. But, the problem of the restarting thing has happened for ages now. But before, it would only restart once. I would run my computer for days without restarting (I make sure it never overheats). Now it restarts constantly. Windows crash analysis gave me this: Quote: Error caused by a device driver Thank you for submitting an error report. Problem description A device driver installed on your computer caused the problem; however, we cannot determine the precise cause. To troubleshoot the problem, please see Getting help. But I can't figure out what driver it could be, because I haven't installed or updated any drivers recently.

So the hard drive that you unpartitioned, is that the hard drive that you're running the operating system from as of right now? o.o

No. I have two hard drives. The one that has the operating system is the one that came with my computer, and it has never been partitioned.
The other hard drive is my formally external one, which I've had for a long time. back when it was external, I partioned it into two drives, one which I used for storage, the other which I used to back up my laptop's hard drive.
A couple days ago, I ran out of room on my external hard drive, so I decided that i'd unpartition it and delete the back up files since all of my laptop's data has long been backed up on my main hard drive. When I was de-partitioning it, my computer crashed. Fortunately I was far enough along in my departitioning where all the files were safe, but it didn't recognise the hard drive anymore. I assigned it a new drive letter and everything seemed to work properly.
Except, windows says that since I've had a major hardware change, I have to reactivate windows...

I had that before(or something similar) Does it just reset itself automaticlly(without warning?)or does it give you some weird message counting down from 60. If it does that weird message thing, it may be from a worm that came out a few years ago. That was SO nasty and I litteraly had only 5 minutes before the computer would reset itself @_@ Do you have a virus scan? Norton picked it up when I had it.

No, the computer freezes at random times when I'm using it, and then when it restarts, it will not be able to load windows and resets itself again. Repeat ad infinitum unless I mess with the options.

If you disconnect the formally external hard drive from your CPU, does windows still say it needs to be reactivated?
I suggest another departition if they're still there, and then use a command prompt to format it. For the extra hard drive, that is.
