"Flying a jet can't be that hard... Does it even have any power left?" Maddy opens one eye and looks over at Ginji, somehow perfectly calm for once.
Ginji turns the keys, the engine sputters, but dies after that. A red light flashes and yells "WARNING"

"I'm going to take that as a no..."

Raichu randomly bursts out of her Pokeball, sparks flying from her cheeks. Maddy just looks at her. "Do you think electrifying the whole jet could give it some power?"

"I wouldn't risk the thunderbolt combining with whatever this stuff is that we're floating in." Ginji sighs. They were probably trapped.

MISSION- Shadows of the Coming Storm
Another Evil Gym Leader! And at Dewford Island! Go and defeat the leader and the goons!
(You will face 4 goons and the Leader)

Pokemon:
Machop
Meditite
Makutia

Funds upon completion:
1000

Item: Shadow Knuckle Badge

After my victory at the Rustboro gym I am instructed to next go to the seven other gyms and take care of the other problems there. Doing as I was told and not arguing against it I set up my team for the next gym in Dewford which specializes in Fighting type Pokemon. My team didn’t have much that could counter Fighting types and also had some slight weaknesses to them but I had to do my best anyway. After figuring out my team I set out by means of Tropius, which also may be the strong point of my team against a fighting gym, and I make my way to Dewford.

As soon as I arrive I decide not even to bother with the Pokemon center seeing that I did all my healing and team management back at HQ this time and I instead head straight for the gym. Upon entering the gym I was greeted by a lone Meditite, this surprised me because wild pokemon are never in gyms but I just passed it off as another one of the Shadow gym’s tricks and prepared for a battle sending out Nincada for the first time just to test out its power and also to have a resistance to fighting moves. Nincada started out by wildly swinging at Meditite but missing most of the time leaving only minor damage. Meditite then countered with Bide storing all the fury it just endured and waiting to unleash it. I knew then I had to end it soon and had Nincada use Bug bite twice in a row while Meditite was still storing energy in attempt to KO it but It failed leaving it with low HP but not low enough to dissuade its attack leaving Nincada defenseless and wide open for the final blow. Meditite unleashed all of its energy KO’ing Nincada but leaving me an opportunity to throw a great ball catching Meditite instantly.

After that battle I followed the winding paths in the gym in attempts to find the leader but instead I was caught by two of the leaders goons who challenged me to a battle. With nowhere else to turn I was unable to deny and sent out my two pokemon Shuppet and Tenticool. The two goons then followed up by sending out a Combusken and a Croagunk and the battle began with Combusken attacking first with Peck on Shuppet dealing some damage followed by Croagunk attacking with Brick Break on Tenticool which didn’t do much due to Poison’s resistance to fighting moves. Tenticool then used Supersonic on Combusken confusing it for awhile leaving Shuppet time to use Psychic on Croagunk OHKOing it. The goon then sent out his second pokemon, a Riolu, just as Combusken recovered from its confusion and used Double Kick on Tenticool taking its health down a little lower. Riolu then followed up with Force Palm on Tenticool further lowering its health leaving it almost unable to battle any longer. Shuppet then used Psychic again this time on Riolu quickly followed by Tenticool’s Surf leaving both of the opponents pokemon along with Shuppet unable to battle and both goons out of usable pokemon.

Yet again traveling aimlessly through the winding paths the gym leader finally came into clear view at the end of a long hallway which was blocked off by two more goons which I figured wouldn’t let me pass without a fight also so I sent out Grovyle and Zubat and readied for another battle. The two opponents then sent out their pokemon, a Hitmonchan and a Hitmonlee, and the battle began. Zubat and Grovyle used a combined aerial ace attack each on a different opponent knocking both of them to about half health. Hitmonchan then countered with Ice punch on Zubat almost KO’ing it and it was quickly followed by Hitmonlee’s Blaze kick which brought Grovyle to half health. Grovyle and Zubat then stuck to their original attack pattern using aerial ace again KOing both opponents. One goon was then out of pokemon and the other then sent out his last, a fairly strong looking Hitmontop. My two pokemon were then open to freely attack again continuously using aerial ace which both landed as decent hits but still didn’t KO it. Hitmontop then finished off Zubat with Stone Edge which landed as a critical hit but it didn’t seem to matter at that point a regular hit would have done the job. Hitmontop then tried to get a tiny bit of damage in using Bullet Punch before it got finished off itself, Grovyle not feeling much pain from the last attack countered with Leaf Blade KO’ing it and leaving me only the leader to deal with.

The lights then went out just like the last gym and the leader appeared half way down the hallway and sent out his first pokemon Hariyama which I countered with sending out my Tropius and the next shadow gym battle began. Tropius started off by flying up to the ceiling to prepare a dive-bomb like attack and at the same time dodging Hariyama’s Poison jab attack. Right after Hariyama put its guard down after missing its attack Tropius shot its whole bodyweight down at Hariyama hitting it from behind and knocking it straight on its stomach pinning it face down on the ground leaving it incapable of moving while Tropius charged a Solarbeam attack. Hariyama using its strength to its advantage pulled Tropius to the ground by its front leg just as it unleashed its solarbeam attack making it only catch the edge of Hariyama’s arm but still doing some damage. Tropius already back at the other side of the room to avoid any more physical attacks then began to charge another solar beam as Hariyama attempted to rush after him to try and stop the attack. Just as Hariyama got close enough to prepare another Poison Jab attack Tropius unleashed his Solar beam leaving Hariyama incapable to battle and putting me in a slight lead with Tropius barely injured.

The Brawly impersonator then sent out his second pokemon, Heracross and I decided, still having the type advantage, to keep in Tropius at least another round. Heracross started off with Megahorn which nearly KO’ed Tropius but let Tropius with the opportunity to attack. Tropius countered with aerial ace using his last bit of strength leaving Heracross with just as little power left as Tropius. Heracross got the finishing move in before Tropius could and evened up the score. I then sent out my partially injured Grovyle to end the rounds using Aerial Ace before Heracross could move again giving me another small lead.

The leader then sent out his final pokemon, Infernape and the last round began. Infernape started out with Mach Punch lowering Grovyle’s health even further almost KO’ing it. Grovyle then countered with Aerial Ace barely halving its health but leaving him open for a counter attack. Infernape then used Flare Blitz incinerating Grovyle but ending up with recoil damage itself.

I was then down to my last pokemon also, a slightly injured Tenticool, I had the type advantage over both of his dual types but I definitely did not have the power advantage, at that moment I thought to myself that this was going to come down to the wire. Infernape started out with Iron tail slowly taking chunks out of Tenticool’s HP but never doing any major damage. Tenticool then countered back with Surf leaving Infernape with barely any will to fight left and almost flooding the hallway if it wasn’t for the alternative corridors that drove out the water before Infernape could take the full force of the attack. Infernape then tried for another Iron tail attack when while he was rushing toward Tenticool he slid across the wet floor missing Tenticool completely and falling into a nearby wall leaving it wide open for an attack. Tenticool then used another Surf attack this time aiming at the wall insuring the full force of the attack would be felt and not waned by the receding water into the nearby hallways. The large waves hit dead on leaving nowhere for Infernape to run to and pinning it In a wall of water KO’ing it after a few moments under the pressure of the water.

As soon as the impostor returned his fainted pokemon the lights went out and once they came back on all the goons including the leader were gone and once again in his place a mysterious badge…

I found my way back out of the confusing hallways and went back to the pokemon center just in time to see the sunset. Once there I got my pokemon healed and met up with the real leader who was staying there, Brawly, we talked for a few moments as my pokemon were being treated and I found out a little more about the gym-nappings, apparently all the gyms were taken over on the same day and they are all definitely working together but that’s all he knew at the time, he also promised to contact Aqua if he figures out anything new or if they return to try to take over the gym again.

As I walked outside the sky was just starting to darken so I decided to return back to HQ quickly before it becomes too dark for night travel seeing that it was getting very cloudy also. I boarded Tropius and returned home, made myself a sandwich and left my report on the mission board then took a nice nap…

Congratulations to Maddy on winning the Mission Contest!

I had a hard time deciding what level to assign her mission, but I eventually settled on level 4. If Brain disagrees with that, he knows how to move it cool

And he's right... I'm an Aqua Chief now, and that means I can make missions without waiting for a contest. Check the level 3 list for Herbology Class, which I dug out of my archives, and level 5 for Emergency in the Frozen Sea.

Stay tuned to this board for other missions which may crop up.

to bad our contest winner is MIA, and the Herbology missions looks fun, maybe i should stop with the gyms for a bit and try that out.

Ginji's TADS blinks again with the incoming mission. "VS NALBAR TRGF GUVF ZRFFNTR CYRNFR ERFCBAQ JVGU LBHE YBPNGVBA!!!"

He stares a long time at the message. "It's a cipher." blandly says after he figures it out. He goes to work to keep himself busy. After what seemed like hours of manual labor, he reads the message "IF ANYONE GETS THIS MESSAGE PLEASE RESPOND WITH YOUR LOCATION!!!" If a Cipher was received, then it may be possible a cipher could be sent out. Hopefully the receiver would be smart enough to figure that out.

He types away on his TADS, "ZNQQL+TVAWV, GENCCRQ VA GUR XLBTER WRG, OEVNA NCYBQR, FVGHNGVBA PEVGVPNY, YNFG XABJA YBPNGVBA=BIRE FBZR BPRNA"

With a sigh, Maddy disappears under the controls for the Kyogre jet and starts messing with the wires, hotwiring as many of the jet's utilities into the main power so they might be able to get enough power to fly out of this mess. "..."

This is a so-so mission. You've got all the basic battle mechanics down okay, but you also need to think about the relative power of the pokemon you're using. Zubat is a fairly weak pokemon, and so it would be difficult to take a Hitmonchan/lee/top to half-health. (Not impossible, considering lee's low defense) By contrast, Hitmonlee has very strong attack power to back his [super-effective] Blaze Kick.

I definitely liked your Hariyama vs Tropius battle, and was almost ready to pass the mission despite its faults. But if you notice the two sentences I've excerpted, that is a pretty major inconsistency. Sorry, but I have to fail it this time. The easiest fix is probably just using a Super Potion.

While you make that edit, you might want to read the mission aloud to yourself. There are places where you could improve the sentence structure and make it easier to read. Using the passage I selected, you could change it like so:
"I was then down to my last pokemon, a slightly injured Tentacool. [Note the spelling] I had the type advantage over both of Infernape's types, but I definitely did not have the power advantage. At that moment I thought, "This battle is going to come down to the wire."

Don't feel obligated to copy my style exactly. It is your mission and your writing style, after all. Think of this as a chance to hone your writer's ear. Because when you get up to the higher missions, good writing affects your grade.

this wasnt too much of a suprise for me, i figured with these missions i should take a test run with them and then fix my mistakes from there, but first i need a nice cup of coffee im beat.

*walks over to coffee maker that instead of displaying the time it has a scrolling message*

"HOLY HELL THAT CANT BE GOOD"
