lash is great - it allows you to move enemy models you want assault into range, those you dont want in asault (big bugs anyone?) out of range, squads to fit under various templates, units out of cover...

I'd say go for it, it is a cheap power that is just begging to be used in each and every chaos list out there. It has its uses for sure. Personally I loathe this power for the cheapness and the potential.

Van: I had never thought of using it to push big nasties back away from combats. That's an incredible thought, really. I'll have to keep it in mind. What I've done with it before (mostly against Eldar) is to put a Bike Sorcerer in with a squad that has 2x Flamers.

I haven't personally used it, but I want to test it sometime. Yeah, the first turn assault does look pretty kickass. o3o
Also, the temple's pretty cool. It'd make for a great starting point for a Chaos centerpiece for special games.

There was this one guy at Adepticon who used two Lashes to move enemy squads into a Vortex. BoLS let him write an article about it and suddenly the man was proclaimed a genius.

A genius for doing something that, to me, seems a bit obvious to do? Heh, no wonder I don't really care to go on BoLS.
Besides, to the army that knows how to beat them, two lashes can end up being a major downfall. And if I remember correctly (I'll be checking the codex myself when I head back upstairs o3o), you can only move units that are T4 and below?

Nah, you can move any unit with a Toughness value. Walkers and Vehicles are off limits, and I think that's about it.

psychic defences are way to go, at least psychic hood which any imperial army can access via inquisition... and if you are really sneaky get hammer of the witches to harass lash users razz

@ Cale: Thanks. I should have checked the codex as I taught a little kid how to play about half an hour ago, but I forgot. XD

@ Van Evok: Yeah, now if only Chaos actually got that...

Yeah. When teaching, I've found that it's actually best to type out a cheat sheet for the player, along with a copy of the reference sheet. That way, they have quick reference at all of their important rules and everything.

And yeah...Van tends to dive into various threads to talk about how the Imperials are better.

Hmm... I'll have to keep that in mind if he ever comes back, then. o3o Though my little cousin never needed a cheat sheet. Hell, I explained the rules, and the Space Marine army he played, and he nearly kicked my a** to hell and back again. .-. And I consider myself a fairly good Chaos player at this point. xD

Yeeeeeeah... See, I want to play against the Guard and see just how bad their new rules are... I think I'm going to use Plague Marines.

with t5 plagues are almost unkillable to lasguns and hth of the ig... unfortunately most damage done by the guard comes in the form of special/heavy/ordnance weapons.remember you have feel no pain against colossus smile

Plague Marines get FNP against everything that is not:
  • AP1 or AP2
  • A Power Weapon
  • A Monstrous Creature's attack
  • Attacks that otherwise ignore armor saves
  • Attacks that cause Instant Death by any means

So yeah. Feel No Pain is my favorite rule ever. Plague Marines with a backbone of Nurgle Bikers w/2x Meltaguns and Powerfist and 2xWinged DPs of Nurgle. Give the Plague Marines some Rhinos with the hopes of getting up close and personal with the Guard lines before they can splatter you. The Bikers and DPs should serve as a vanguard line, preferably on a flank so that they can sweep across. That said, Raptors with the Mark of Nurgle are surprisingly scary.
PostPosted: Sun May 10, 2009 3:12 pm

Yeah, I noticed that about the raptors when I was thinking up themed lists before. For one, it's a fat blob of pus FLYING at you. Two, you won't kill it in time.
But I think, despite being heavily outnumbered, a good player can take a well built Nurgle (and possibly Thousand Son for side units/more powerful Sorcerer HQs) army and kill even the Guard. You just have to be careful as to guess what your enemy will pick. All infantry army, heavy tank army, or a mix?
At least that's how I would probably play it. I'm not that big on using only one Chaos God for an army. xD

Necro, I've found that an incredible combination of troops is Plague Marines and Noise Marines. That way you can swarm forward with the Plague Marines (at least out of the line of fire from their good AP weaponry) and cover their approach with Noise Marines. That and, if you're fighting Guard, Noise Marines can absolutely shred through infantry formations with their AP5 weaponry.
