I LIKE SAXOPHONES!
That's my way of bumping this up so people will post in it....>_>
Speaking of saxophones, one of our saxophone freshmen is being redistricted to a new school that's opening up, and the other is probably quitting...:[

Small school, or just small sax section? My old school was really small...but saxes still dominated as the largest section. Seven of 'em in 6th grade, and when I moved away in 8th, there were only three. I think there's one left. And that's only because her mother won't let her quit. But my new band is much better bigger. xP

Well, we had eight in marching band for my freshmen year...two graduated, three quit, and we got two freshmen. Our band's slowly been smaller, though. Hopefully we'll get more freshmen for next year.

I'm borrowing an alto from my school, and the pinky keys are weird so they're not tilted whatsoever. And, as an unfortunate bonus, it has another addition for an "easier" way to play low Bb, which just makes it harder to play a low B natural. Grrrrr.

At school, I play a Keilwerth SX90R Tenor. It makes me feel like rich kid(I wish I could afford one!!). sweatdrop At home, I have a knock off of an SX90R, problem is, the mouth piece is the wrong bore. I'm looking to get a metal mouth piece so I have a brighter sound, for jazz, though wood would also fit the dark, minor stuff I do as improve composition-like things I do in my room, when nobody's watching... Anyway, what do you think I should get? Also, any recommendations on reeds for aforementioned dark, minor, bluesy sound?
I also have a Selmer Bundy II Alto.

I also have a Selmer Bundy II Alto. i would recommend getting a new alto as soon as possible. the bundy is a decent enough sax to learn on, but the pitch problems are insane. i've never played a bundy that wasn't incredibly out of tune with itself. i started on a bundy, and still have it (i painted it for use in pep band) but my yamaha is a much better instrument. like i said in the reed sticky, you might want to try rico jazz select. depending on your mouthpiece though, reeds will work differently.

The alto isn't my main thing. I play my tenor, mostly, and, even though its a knock off, plays amazingly.

GAH! There was a sax sectional in band today, and it was hell. The grade 10s are the only altos that can play well and in-tune, and one of us had a broken instrument, so it was basically just me and the grade 9s. crying .... yeah. -_-
I honestly don't think any of them have practiced since the first day of school, and their tone and tuning is awful! When they play, it sounds like cows dying, (The senior band leader has told them that they sound worse than grade 6s, (our junior band leader is too wimpy to do so) and she's right! They sound like beginners!!!) It's so aggravating! When we all play together, it's so painful, it's like nails on a chalkboard! And the whole band hates the section because we sound so bad!!. crying
And now the bd is blaming it on me, and saying, "YOU HAVE TO ORGANIZE A SECTIONAL ON FRIDAY AND HELP EVERYONE WITH TUNING!!! GRRR" (too bad I'm not there on Friday. razz )
I feel so guilty too, I'm transfering to an art school next year, and being the only one who can play well in my section (I sound mean and boastful, but it's true) the sax section is going to die next year. And the senior band director was telling me how excited she was to have me as the one of two altos in band next year. Oh man, I don't know how I'm going to tell her. crying

random, but slightly relevant i guess.
I just noticed the other day that everyone in our alto sax section(in concert band) is a girl O.o...strange. and our bari player is a girl(lol just noticed all Eb saxes are girls). ._. i just wish they could pump some more power through their horns. they don't sound bad, they just can't get a nice full tone to cut through on solos

I play Tenor Sax. My favourite thing to play is Pink Panther. It's really hard to find sheet music for Tenor too, I usually end up playing Trumpet or B-Flat Clarinet music... v.v
