*The dark-hued gentleman finishes his cup of tea before answering, still nodding lightly while the little shadow sprite from his shoulder flutters down and skitters a bit near his tea cup, a curious little creature*
"Well I certainly thank you for the very kind words, Rita. You're a most generous hostess, and quite an engaging conversationalist yourself. As for who invited me, I know her by one name, but I am yet unaware of who she is around here. Perhaps its best to describe her. A Maid of Might, whose hair is as gold as Kansas grain, and eyes as blue as the untouched skies above a quiet little town. This is how I know her, but as I know well enough, looks can be most deceiving. Of course, that's me being dramatic..."*chuckles and shrugs*
"As for who I am as well as my role in the politics of mortal gods and monsters, well, I stand on a bit of a line. Once upon a time, I played the villian, and oh the jousts between me and the likes of the Flash and Starman...the originals, mind you, though I've had the fortune of working with their successors. But, this was during a Golden Age, which shortly after what you call "World War II", came to an end...and things steadily changed for the darker after that...so now, I'm not a villian, but not really a hero either. I protect whats mine, and well..."
*when he looked up, for the briefest second, it looked like nothing but empty blackness looked back from behind those glasses. But the next, the now familiar gentile smile of Richard Swift gazed back at Rita*
"Anyone who tries to harm whats mine...gets a rather nasty surprise..."

The description fits a few of the lovely ladies that frequent this place. But, any of them that invited you must have had good reason. ~finishes her drink~ I like that. i tend to be on a bit of a fence myself, though more of the mercenary side of things. i did government work for a while, but the people I worked with were a bunch of petty little morons that made me do most of the work, so I've bounced around here and there. My latest tragic teaming was with a group of ladies that seemed to have a plan, but things fell apart rapidly, and once again, it was good old Spiral who had to pull their bacon out of the fire. I did get a few good shots in before we left though. ~stands and stretches, deliberately~ Glad I'm not into the harming what's yours buisness. You seem to be quite formidible from the non-energies i scanned within you.

Querl Dox ::Querl turns as if looking at Richard for the first time.::
Supergirl invited you here? *The Shadowy Gent nods and grins* Well, one could argue "A" Supergirl invited me...but once again, time and space, are not really what they seem, especially now, no?
*looks back at Rita, bowing to her in his seat*
You once more lavish me with praise I do not deserve, but I thank you nonetheless. And its good to find a kindred spirit, though I cannot say I have found the need myself, to join any governing body. In all of my many years, I've yet to meet a government that has not destroyed greater men because of their own desires and corruption...quite a few acquaintances, and even those I'd deemed close friends, have fallen because of such dealings...I saw that those that harmed them, met with...unsatisfactory ends...
*he lightens up a bit, as ridiculous a concept that would be from him* But enough of that, these are new days to look forward to, not the days gone by to wallow. I do look forward in what may come from this new arrangement *he smiles lightly, holding a finger out to the shadow sprite, who hops on and seems quite content in the new perch*

*A lightning bolt bursts, and Livewire "flows" out. In as much as electricty can flow. Then it assumes her humanoid form.*
Aww, YEAH! I haven't been here in . . . what? It's been a while, I know! Is Superjerk around?

::Querl gives Richard an entirely unbemused expression::
Of course, we could be talking about Linda Danvers. Or Karen Starr. Or Matrix. Or Linda Lee. Or Kara In-Ze. All of whom have visited the Nexus, all of whom I...know.
But logic dictates that you are speaking of Linda Lang, the only Supergirl who has visited the Nexus within the last measurable time period. Do not try to play the 'who knows more about reality' game with me. You will not win.

I left government employ for the same reason that i joined in the first place. It suited me at the time, and had nothing better to do. Then again, i DO come from a dimension where the government is my, quite literally, one of the most corrupt slugs you'll ever meet. A single, mad genius who runs everything with utter lack of compassion for anything save the audience. ~her eyes scan him thoughtfully~
World war 2 you say. You look good for a man your age. I've actually lost count of my age. Time travel and the Wildways does do a number on memory. I have trouble keeping track of what incarnation I am at any given time, and what I have or will have done. It's an interesting existence and I for one love the chaos of it all.
Interesting friend you have there.

::Querl sighs, shrugs his shoulders and shakes his head::
Self-delusion is such an unfortunate state of affairs. When I come from, no one remembers that 'live wire' is anything but an archaic designation for an obsolete form of energy transmission.
Except for Garth, of course, but that's an entirely different sort of discussion.

Yeah, but in YOUR time, you worship the Big Blue Jerk. So, of course, you're going to edit his enemies out of your history books.
