"I could have sworn Iron Defense covered Special Attacks..." *Materializes from the shadows with Dusclops* Nope, sorry. Iron Defense is just physical defense. Though it is a sharp increase. (2 levels) If you're looking for special defense, Amnesia is the first one that comes to mind. (HA!)

I'm not sure how you've tried the battle so far, but if you have a Focus Sash, you could try equipping that and using Metal Burst. The sash will prevent a KO if Lairon's at full health, and the move will reflect 1.5x the damage Lairon takes.
That's just one of many possible strategies you could consider. If you lack the Focus Sash, you'll need to consider another....
But with that, I gotta jet.
