Peutaiite music_peace_love_recycle wow! that's a lot of saxes!!! we only have 3 in our wind ensemble and 6 real ones in jazz band! (2 other ones have to play trombone parts b/c we only have one trombone and one euphonium xD) sad Lucky. I wish there were only 3 in my wind ensemble, sadly, there's over twice as many. Although jazz band is the same situation. razz We have them on trombone too. Large saxophone sections are amazing! When they play well, at least. xd It's really good in marching band, but unfortunately, not for concert band. D=

Having lots of saxes in jazzband seems odd for me. There are some composers that wrote parts for two baritone saxes but that's rare.

Well ya, it would be. But sax is pretty much the worst sounding instrument if played badly, because it's hard to volume control at first. And let me tell you, some of the newer members have more than small tuning problems. :/ Ya, I've looked a list of names for a high level concert band, and they only had 1 tenor and two altos. (I didn't see how many baris) @MHorn. Our sax section for band is one member too big, (me. lol) We have 3 alto's instead of 2. But it's fine. I double with someone, and the other member plays nice and full, (loud. razz ) so we needed to double a part. We have 2 baris as well, but one of them is playing a trombone part. (We only have 1 real trombone. O smile

Also is it hard playing saxophone? should it matter if it's hard? it's not particularly hard to make SOUND on any of the saxes...it's extremely hard to make it sound GOOD, though. once you know how to make it sound good, it starts to come pretty naturally.

well i play alto, and I'm ok at it. But i kind of suck at the lower notes. not enough air speed to support the sound.

Alto's not hard, since you play clarinet you shouldn't have much trouble switching.
