Daren smirked, "because i know Anna and Tarte and if you think they aren't going to keep us there for as long as possible, you are wrong. the kids will probably be back from school before we can escape." he put on his own coat and chuckled, "commoner, huh? think that title's a bit too good for me." he opened the door for Tim and then locked it behind them. "glad you like them, though." Tim looked cute in the oversized coat. it reached down past Daren's hips which meant it was near Tim's knees. the arms dangled down past his fingertips and Daren couldn't help but like how much smaller Tim was then him. the perfect size for snuggling. he gave his head a slight shake, turning it from that line of thought, "there are gloves in the pockets of you need them."

The redhead laughed. That was true, those people would keep them and adopt them if they could. Well, in a sense Tim supposed they'd already adopted Daren. "Will I get an after-school snack if I stay? I always liked apples and peanut butter. But it's hard not to like your jackets." he said, looking at the sleeves, realizing how long they were. "For me, you have generic black wool coats going from your hip to mid-thigh or to mid-calf. They're professional coats and that's what I wear to work. I don't really have casual coats like this." At the mention of pockets he reached down, bending a bit to reach inside the pockets and pulling out the gloves. "Thank you." and slid them on happily. They weren't leather and fur, but he liked them.

Daren smiled, "no problem." they walked outside and he looked around a second before heading for the park, "wonder if your friends are here again. won't be any fireflies to catch, though." he smiled again as he remembered Tim running around, trying to catch the little balls of light. "there is a pond over there that has duckboats in it. it's a nice little walk around as well. if you want, we could go there."

Tim laughed. "Yea, no fireflies. It's too cold for them now. I'm surprised October is over and it's November. That means Thanksgiving. Then Christmas! And New years!" he exclaimed, walking towards the lake with Daren. "I don't know what I'll do for all those holidays. I haven't celebrated any of them in so long." Andrew's way of celebrating didn't count as celebrating, so as far as Tim was concerned, he hadn't celebrated them. Simple logic. "It makes me sort of afraid people have big feasts for Thanksgiving, right? I'm sure me, Mom and Mother can share a teeny turkey. With maybe an apple pie, green beans and mashed potatoes." he mused.

Daren shook his head a little, "if you don't think that your moms and Anna are conspiring to have some huge Thanksgiving feast, you are dead wrong. i haven't heard anything, but that doesn't mean it isn't going to happen." he lowered his face, hiding in the high neckline of his coat, "i usually worked the holidays so that the other officers could be with their families. Anna and Tarte would hold off their big meals until i got off, this year's going to be weird." he didn't relish the thought of holidays centered around family being spent by himself. even being surrounded by friends, he always hated the holiday season. it brought back too many memories, memories that had been poked at far too much the past few months

"I'm not sure I'm mentally and emotionally ready for a big feast." he admitted, crossing his arms in thought while their legs continued to move. "I might be quiet throughout the whole thing. I wonder if I can trick them into thinking I've gone over a few states for a business meeting." and sighed, breath turning into mist as it left his lips. "I doubt they'll believe it.' and ran his gloved fingers through his hair, turning up the collar of the jacket and burrowing his face into it, mimicking Daren. "What do you want for Christmas?"

Daren glanced over, "christmas?" he hadn't thought of that, he'd have to come up with something for Anna and the kids too. "socks," he muttered, shrugging. "really, i don't care much for Christmas. not much of a holiday for people like me. just an excuse to be excessive, really." he shuffled his feet, if tim was thinking of what to give him that meant he needed to get something for Tim as well. "what about you?"

"I used to love decorating the Christmas tree." he said, "We'd pull out all the old ornaments I made in grade school and put them up. Never had a theme for our tree it just always looked cluttered. But a good sort of cluttered." What did Tim want for Christmas? "I'm so expensive, Daren. I don't know how you'll afford it." and sighed, "I want toe socks. So I can see my toes wiggle." and laughed.

Daren laughed, "Toe socks, huh? i'll see what i can do about that. i'll get you pretty rainbow ones." they reached the pond and he started on the path around it. "they might be in my price range. anything else?" he couldn't imagine Tim actually wearing them, but you could bet your a** he would be getting some.

"Daren, are you making them rainbow because I'm gay?" he tried to keep a straight face, but it only last a second before he gave a big grin at his own joke. "No. Nothing much else. Maybe a tree. Something small I guess because your place isn't big enough for a big tree. or we can hang a little air freshener on the wall." He laughed. "I did that my freshman year of college. It was so pathetic but I wanted to prove I was independent and that I didn't need to come home for Christmas because I was a man." and continued giggling. It was weird how he couldn't feel the cold, at least not beside Daren. He'd think about that later.

"A tree?" Daren hadn't ever really had a tree for himself. at least not at his house. he'd hung up a wreath every year to keep Anna from calling him a Grinch, but other than that he didn't decorate. If Tim was moving back in, which seemed probable at this point, then he guessed he'd have to do more for his sake. "in that case, we should go shopping when we get back home. grab a small tree and some decorations. can't have another air freshener year, can we?"

"Really? Oh but we should get a fake one, I don't know if you're allergic to a real tree. Can you keep a tree alive for two months? It is still only November so we have time for tree hunting. We still need to celebrate thanksgiving first. Then maybe we'll think about Christmas." they'd finished walking around the pond, now it was just a straight shot to the bakery. "I realize I might still be slightly intoxicated." he commented. "Because the world sort of did a shift to the right before righting itself again."

Daren shrugged, "was thinking a fake would be best. less mess and less money in the end." he lifted an eyebrow at Tim's statement, "not surprising with how much you drank. it's going to be a bit before it all burns out of your system, but you're a lot better now than when i picked you up." they were on their way to the bakery now and he paused a little, "would you rather we hold off, though? we can go to the bakery any time, if you're feeling off we don't have to go now."

"That is true. Less mess for Apple to cause. We'd probably have to buy plastic ornaments. Would we buy the tree with lights already installed or no?" he waved his hand at Daren's statement. "No. I've been sober enough this entire time and we're already halfway there. I'd be really awful to not only make you walk out in the cold to the bakery, but walk the long way and then turn back. We're going full speed ahead."

"lights build in, it's easier. i don't want to deal with ball o' lights every year." Tim insisted they go and Daren shrugged, "fine by me. i don't mind the walk either way." he was quiet the rest of the way to the bakery, his mind running over the holidays and how he'd manage. they were in the parking lot before he really realized it. he walked to the door and glanced at Tim, "you sure you will be ok? we can go in through the back if you want." he didn't want to cause Tim any more stress than he was already under.
