Lol what is this very specific sort of story-driven turn-based RPG that you speak of?
Suikoden 1 through 3 are good examples. Final Fantasy X tried. Eternal Arcadia got kind of close. Xenosaga started but then the project was cut from six games to three and went to hell.
I also liked adventure games like the Myst series and Starship Titanic. Those have not died out, but are rare to find since the best ones almost always seem to be Eastern European with weird names and marketing.
These days, there is just a lot more emphasis on graphics and action in RPGs.

It kind of sounds like they got together and could not agree on a single genre, so then after a couple hours decided, "Okay, so we're going to do all of them in alphabetical order and give them roughly equal time in the track." I like parts of it quite a bit.

I have spent most of the day watching huggbees videos instead of being productive.

Oh! Well did you hear that new game that is being made? The one being made by the folks behind Sukoden? That's something that you might be into.
Also gee, it has been a long time since I played a proper RPG to be honest. The last I think that follows that same regard is maybe Final Fantasy XV. I want to try out Persona 5. That's something I haven't tried (have played a bit of 3).

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes? Yeah, I think it said something about the industry these days that they had to have a kickstarter to get the sort of game I like made because the high muck-mucks of the big studios have become so myopic.

The last I played was Golden Sun, but my emulator crashed and I lost access to the save, then I never picked it up again because the water temple was a pain in the a**. I am caught between continuing or preserving what little sanity I have left by not having to do that temple again. Seriously, that is one of the cardinal rules of RPGs — don't inundate the player with random encounters while they're doing a complicated puzzle.
I think once I get a new computer up and going, I might try something outside my usual wheelhouse like Skyrim (with loads of cheats both for accessibility of course and probably that summon trains mod because that's hilarious — it's the one mod my sister deigned to install on her run through).

That's neat. ^-^ I'm usually more of an indie rock person myself. Currently I listen to a lot of darwin deez while running heals in ffxiv

I am laboring along with my very old mac, using a PC laptop for mostly just banking and the like. I don't know if I could run skyrim on the laptop only because of screen size. With a keyboard and mouse, I'd be somewhat okay interface-wise, but my vision leave a lot to be desired, so I need a huge screen. The laptop's screen is so small, I can barely do minecraft.
Though as Inedible will attest, that's probably because I am building things of scales I should not on a laptop. sweatdrop

I was trying to find this song for my mother. She gave me the usual boomer shuffle of random words as lyrics and asked me to find it.
