In my band we have like 20 altos(no joke), and 6 tenors for marching band. We didn't march bari sax this year because our drill was insane(go look up Cullman Highschool marching band 2009 or something to that effect on youtube) and you'll see why. We have about same number of altos in our concert/symphonic band, and we have 4 tenors and 2 baris. Army of saxophones ftw! xp Overall in our marching band we have about 150 people.(including majorettes, danceline, colorguard and percussion.)
By the way I play tenor sax. I'm the only girl and the only freshman in the tenor sax section. And the tallest. sweatdrop I've wanted to play it for like the past 2 years and I've been playing for a year. whee saxophones are the best!
Edit: nice sig^ MHHornfreak

Edit: nice sig^ MHHornfreak ONLY FRESHMAN AND GIRL TENOR SAXES FTW! xD The nice thing about being a girl playing tenor is that you get to sit with all the guys who play low instruments. xD There were a total of three tenors in marching band this year: me and two junior guys. Now I play first-chair alto in Wind Ensemble (versus Symphonic Band, which you don't have to try out to get into). Somehow, even though I auditioned on a tenor, my band director decided to put me ahead of two seniors to get the first alto spot. Being a freshman, it's a pretty big job ^^; I think I have six solos in the upcoming concert. Which is also on my birthday (not that it really matters xD).

Xxxakatsukileaderxxx I PLAY 3 DIFFERENT SAXES WHERE DO I GO!!!!! lol Bari is considered double reed sweatdrop 3nodding Uh...no it's not...>_> Bari is just a single-reed instrument, just like all the other saxes. A double reed instrument doesn't even have a mouthpiece, you just play on the reed. (Those reeds are so hard to deal with, by the way. They make me wanna strangle something. xd )

What Terra said xD
Double reeds never agreed with me when i tried them out. I have played bassoon and oboe and failed terribly.

I don't know how I can deal with it. I've murdered plenty of reeds during marching season (oh, braces...), and they could still play. I don't know how much basson reeds can take, but the slightest thing on an oboe reed just ruins my sound.
Speaking of sound, TENOR SAX! I'm playing it for jazz band, and I don't know if it's the sax, but it sounds weird...not like there's a problem with it or anything, but I just sound really weird on it, not at all how I remembered sounding two years ago. It doesn't really have a mellow sound...it's not harsh, either, just weird. Could it be that I need to use more air? I've been trying, but playing tenor and oboe within minutes of each other is really throwing me off. (Jazz band's playing at the winter concert, along with concert band.)

You just need to get used to using the two different embouchers back and forth. I know a guy that plays alto and oboe and he switches back and forth just fine. I really cant tell you what to do without hearing you.

I love bari, even though I don't really have the lungs for it. It definitely takes some getting used to, but it sounds awesome. :] There's this clarinet player at my old middle school who played it for jazz band...its sounded awesome! He was so tiny, though, so when he sat down, the bari was almost touching the floor. xd

Silver Eye Snake er...I have an alto, but I don't know how to play it yet (I'll be learning that this year). I've been wanting to play it forever though ^^ Hm...I feel so out of place/stupid. I don't suppose you would have any tips for me, would you? sweatdrop :3 I just started playing tenor sax this year and its alot of fun. At first i didn't really like it but once you start getting your own parts its easier and more fun. Just stick with it and don't leave a wet reed in your mouth piece becuase it will eventually mold :{D
