Jun sensed the tension in the girl's voice and grinned cheerily to erase it. "No worries! I was unceremoniously given the boot too. You saw," he chuckled, toying with his black-gem earring now. "/Some/ people just can't deal with relatives more fabulous than themselves, you know. Gets to them." He was jesting, but the arrogant tone was still there.
A trainer, huh? Well, I guess this means, even with double battles, I can easily weasel my way out. Such undignified, gritty business Pokemon battling is! "Wotcha staring at, darling?" the sharp man said, turning around. Before he could pinpoint whatever had caught Alice's interest, he saw something that had snared /his/ interest; a certain blonde working at the open bar kitchen. 'Ahah!'
"Dear, dear, it seems our orders are taking a while. Would you like to send these regards to the chef?" he winked, his dark green eyes jetting over from Alice to Aidan rather surreptitiously, having forgotten that Alice's unease over whatever it was.

Was M.A. pleased to have gone right! Although the tall grass was patchy and pretty much inevitable in this route, the ocean view was rather lovely, and this assured her she was probably just on the outskirts of Slateport or something. When she grew up, she thought, she must have a home on one of these coast cities, hurricanes or not; this salty air was so refreshing and it made her feel so relaxed. What occupation she would follow, she didn't know, but she had plenty of time to figure out anyways.
The girl walked on the very edge on the rocky coast, somewhat glad there wasn't much sand, for it was troublesome in her shoes. While musing and staring out at sea, however, she once again wasn't paying very much attention and bumped into a bulky fisherman fellow who promptly fell in, luckily saving himself by falling over the rocks and not into them. He sacrificed dryness, though, and did not look happy about it. "Girlie! What are you doing! And great, now all the biters in the area have run off, they won't bite on /me/, I can't pass as bait!" Disgruntled, the wet man pulled himself out with his large arms, his short legs spinning behind him comically.
"Gee, whiz, I'm soaked, too," he said, realizing this now. "Heat me up! Let's battle!"
"Uhhhhhhhh okaaaaaaay," M.A. said, shrugging. The life of a trainer, she supposed. It wouldn't do to say no. "Tora, d'you wa--"
Before she could finish the sentence, however, Ulani planted herself in front of her trainer squarely. What surprised M.A., however, was that instead of the mischievous air that the Swablu usually went into battle with, a determined look had set on her features. She didn't even flinch when the fisherman sent out a roaring Gyarados; the size and strength of her opponent Intimidated her on the inside, but she wanted to prove that she could stand her ground just as Daemyn and Tora could!
"That's all you got, little girl? She's just a cotton ball to my tidal wave!" the fisherman laughed, a ho-ho-ho sound. M.A. got the feeling that this guy was a good guy from his laugh, and this battle would not turn out so sourly like the last.
The Donphan grumbled, having just been robbed of a battle, being too dense to realize that if she had gone in she would have been seriously disadvantaged. Well, she could always find something else to play with... She looked hopefully up at Diego, who was sitting on her back, chewing a strand of wheat grass like the lazy hitchhiker he was. The sleepy artist raised a brow, and that was enough of a negative answer; gee whiz, no fun at all. She supposed she could just watch Ulani go at that big thing and cheer; she did like the cheerful blue bird, after all.

The engineer was surprised at the power behind the attack. It had frozen a large portion of their battlefield, not to mention half of his Voltorb. "Er, Voltorb, shake it off and use a Spark attack!" He watched his Pokemon roll off and ram into the Cloyster with minimal effect, tugging his collar slightly. "Oh boy."
Mike snickered at the weak attack, figuring it was about time to put it out of its misery. "Finish it off with a Surf!" He called out, looking over at Napalm, who was working hard looking for the second switch. With a chilling cry, Shiver summoned a wall of water, which washed away the competition, rolling a fainted Voltorb back to its trainer.
"Huh." replied the man as he recalled his Pokemon. "I wasn't expecting that." He shrugged, throwing out another Pokeball.
"Dammit," growled Mike. "I don't have time for another Pokemon!" He recalled Shiver, throwing out an Ultra Ball of his own. When the light subsided, Potrabello stood tall, facing off against a Magnemite, who floated quite contently. The engineer raised an eyebrow, unsure of just what he was fighting. "Let's set a record here Portabello," shouted Mike, punching his palm. "Use your Sky Uppercut!"
The poor Magnemite didn't even see it coming. Portabello sprang forward, his right hand glowing brightly. With a strong upward swing, the Magnemite was sent rocketing upward and slammed into a fixture on the ceiling. The lights flickered from the impact, both trainers watching as the Magnet Pokemon was blasted with electricity and fell too the floor, landing with a loud 'clang'.
The engineer stood speechless for a moment before recalling his Pokemon. "Well, I certainly wasn't expecting that. You beat me fair and square."
"Mmhm," replied Mike curtly. "I don't mean to be an a**, I just really need to see Surge now."
What gives? None of these cans had lights in them! The first one had a bright blinking light, and he checked every one of them next to this one, and none of them blinked! Not at all! Napalm stomped in frustration, this wasn't fair! He'd just pick one at random, maybe he'd get lucky and it'd be the right one. He closed his eyes and spun around, running towards whichever one he picked. Crossing his fingers, he jumped up and slapped the button on the bottom of the can. ...ding!
The electrical locks have been deactivated. said an automated voice over the speakers.
Victory! Naplalm let out a loud honk and threw his hands into the air. No human traps could keep him down!
The man only laughed in reply to Mike's comment. "It's okay son. I didn't stand much of a chance anyway." He nodded in the direction of now deactivated fence. "Just go easy on the old man."
"I won't!" Mike called back as he raced off to the final area, scooping up the dancing Magby. "Surge!" he called out. "I challenge you to...a Pokemon match? Yeah, that's right! An official gym match!"

"Well..." Kilik began, "I'm pretty sure it's tomorrow. At noon, I think. Yeah, that sounds about right." He placed a hand on his chin and nodded. "Yep. And by the way..." but he was cut off asking her the question the moment a boy and girl approached them. Does Mitsu really look like she'd be my girlfriend? he looked over at her. He smirked and clenched his fist.
"Mitsu, you're going to have watch out for Cable," he said, "We never had a chance to rest after our last battle, so it's very possible that he may keel over this match if he gets hit more than once. So be careful and help me as much as I can. I'll do the same to help you." Kilik looked down at the plug, who was ready to jump into battle.
Cable was ready. He jumped up and dashed after the Sealeo, pulling his fist back. He was gonna give it the best Thunderpunch he had ever given before! Of course, he'd only used three so far, so topping a previous Punch wouldn't be too difficult.
Corey winced and watched his Pokemon get slammed by the attack. He knew that his Sealeo was at a disadvantage against the little Pokemon, but he could sure blast that Pidgeotto out of the sky! "Use your Ice Beam, Sealeo!" he commanded. The cold Pokemon reared his head back and unleashed a freezing cold blue beam at the direction of Zypher.

The more the boy spoke, the angrier Giovanni became. He had already had a bad day and the moment he mentioned those kids, the man spun around and delivered a punch right to London's jaw. "How DARE you speak to me in such a fashion!" He stormed over his crumped form and picked him up by the collar, slamming him against the wall. "You come in here and treat me like a fool in my own quarters! Yet you still expect me to allow YOU to help me? Idiot child!" He pulled him back and hit him against the wall again. "I have half a mind to throw you out right now and send you to my Rhydons! They're quite hungry!"
With one more slam, Giovanni dropped the boy to the floor. "Now then, if you're down spouting your nonsense, follow me down to the training quarters. You'll be battling me. If you manage to impress me, which is very doubtful, then I'll think about it. Now, get up!" He stomped on the boys foot and disappeared down the stairs.

"A cotton ball can... absorb tidal waves!" M.A. said defiantly in a sad little attempt at a comeback. She had to laugh at herself along with fisherman.
"I like you girlie! You're a smiler, you are. But I won't go easy on you! Your move first."
Ulani heard M.A. defending her (kinda) but knew that she didn't truthfully have an overwhelming faith in the Swablu. Well, Ulani knew she put this on herself; she never really took this battling busy seriously before, why would anyone think she would now? There had been no drastic change in the Swablu, nothing visible. In fact, glancing back, she could already see that Tora didn't exactly think she'd win against the behemoth and M.A. was more or less impartial to both sides, having not given enough thought to winning or losing. Diego -- Diego, that flirt, startled her with his even gaze behind his half-closed eyelids. His eyes challenged her -- Don't you have something to prove? Get started already!
The Swablu set her beak, resolve firming once more. "Let's start off with a Fury Attack then," M.A. suggested, not particularly caring about the turnout of this battle. Well, Ulani thought, she'd rile her trainer up somehow! She'd show her something she didn't expect, an exciting battle. So the bird threw herself out on a limb and zoomed in with a shining light -- Take Down!
"Risky business, I approve!" the fisherman ho-ho'd. "Gyarados, meet 'er with a Twister!" The Atrocious Pokemon roared an ear-breaker and began to spin around madly, creating a tornado and sending it towards the hapless blue bird. No luck! The Swablu cried out, taking the full hit, not even getting the chance to strike her foe.
Hell no, she wasn't gonna let it turn out like last time! To M.A.'s surprise, the bird went at it again relentlessly, shooting towards the Gyardos once more. "Persistence! Good, good!" the fisherman roared. "Come little birdie! Taste our Dragon Rage!" The Water-type reared his head backwards, sending a wave of destructive waves from his jaws. Once again, Diego was on shield duty, but a little smirk was on his lips.
The reason, of course, was that Ulani was no fool, and unlike Tora, she knew better than charging in right through a second time. The bird appeared to disappear as the attack came towards her, and she reappeared behind the Gyarados in a well-executed Astonish move. Instead of using the relatively weak attack and scooting out of the way, however, she plowed straight for the side of his throat with a successful Take Down. Got 'im where it hurts!
... Though it hurt her, too. What a bony fish! It wouldn't do to move out of the way and get hit again. So she simply did what she did best -- cling onto him. The Gyardos tried to Bite the bird off, but ended up biting himself instead as the mischievous bird scooted over in a burst of speed. She wasn't a particularly fast or strong Pokemon, but if she concentrated enough and put some effort in there, she could be a hell of a nuisance. Tiring business, but it worked for now.

Keegan nodded slowly. "Yeah, it is," he muttered. "No big deal." He actually was feeling rather hungry, though he chalked that up to the fact that he recently had the living piss beaten out of him. Jaeshan's comment about his clothing normally would have angered him, but he had to laugh. "And I need a new jacket," he said, frowning a bit. It was probably for the better though, as the black one was getting pretty old and worn by now. He had been wondering where he should go to shop for some new duds when a screech rang through the air and quite suddenly a Pidgeot touched down in front of the two boys. What. The. Hell? Keegan thought, instinctively reaching for Themis' Pokeball, ready to have it turned into fried chicken if it so much as looked at them funny. A closer look showed that the bird held something in its beak, and Keegan took a few cautious steps towards it, shooting a confused glance Jaeshan's way. "For... me?" he asked, gently taking the box from the Pidgeot. "But who...?"

The fisherman chuckled at the bird hopping from place to place on his Gyarados like a cottony flea. "I guess there's not much else to do, but give her a Thrashin'!" he chuckled boisterously, pointing an sure fire finger at his Pokemon. The angry Pokemon complied immediately, beginning to rampage wildly. "Girlie, you and your friends best move! He can't even hear me in this state!"
Sure enough, as soon as M.A. and co. scuttled out of the way, the tail of the wild Gyarados crushed the ground where she had been standing moments before. How frightening, the girl thought with awe in her eyes. "Ulani!" she called out, but could hear nothing over the monster's roars and his collisions with the ground and trees and everything. He was like a natural disaster; no mind was going to control that, not even his own. "Ulani!" M.A. cried, genuinely worried now. She saw a blur of blue within the dust clouds, but that could have been one of the Gyardos' scales in the sun, who knew? What if her little blue bird was going to be broken? She adored her Pokemon, was as protective of them as they were of her. She tentatively rested a hand on the Swablu's Pokemon, but was surprised by Diego, who stopped her. "Confianza," the Smeargle wrote in the air, and the cursive words spiraled around M.A.'s wrist, running up her arm until it reached her chest, where the words sunk in, and the girl visibly relaxed. She couldn't explain it, but she had an unshakable sense that Ulani would make it out more than alright.
Tora gave a pointed look at Diego, having seen what transpired. The Smeargle only grinned before leaning back to continue gnawing his wheat grass stalk. What he drew, he could make reality, at least for some time... He had a feeling that the brunette would make this reality last, though, on her own.
And sure enough, the blue bird came out once the thrashing was over, and the Gyarados was completely out of mind. Confused, it threw itself into rocks, thinking they were the Swablu. It only took a strategic tap to its head to knock it out, and little Ulani emerged the victor!
"Bravo! And so David took down Goliath," the fisherman applauded heartily, recalling his fallen Dragon. "What passion your little bird has! She's something, alright."
"Yeah," M.A. smiled, lifting both hands out for the battered Ulani to land on. The bird never looked prouder. "She really is."

With a cry the boy spiraled to the floor, taken aback by the sudden assault. Shouldn't...shouldn't he have seen that coming?! Before he had time to react he was once more dangling off the ground, except this time he was being slammed, again and again, into the wall. London did not appreciate being assaulted repeatedly like this and was fully determined to make Giovanni stop using the very powers that the Rocket leader had called rubbish.
Except...nothing happened. He didn't stop. Giovanni eventually dropped him and left, but not before stomping on the boy's foot. London simply sat there slumped against the wall for a few moments, angry tears welling up in his eyes. Why hadn't his power worked?! He, he wasn't weak...he wasn't! As if just to prove this point London squeezed his eyes shut in furious concentration, and in a soft flash of light he was sitting outside the office door. So, he wasn't weak... The boy clambered up to his feet and after wiping at his eyes with the sleeve of his coat hurried after Giovanni's retreating form.
b*****d... He thought as he scurried down the stairs, slowing down once he finally caught up. London strode briskly at the man's side, jaw feeling swollen and throbbing but the boy made no fuss about it, determined to show that he wasn't about to be intimidated. Something isn't right. I can't get into his mind. As they walked - London having to take three steps to Giovanni's one - he continued to try and force himself into the Rocket leader's thoughts, but there was only silence. Something was definitely fishy, but rather than inquire about it now he would wait to do so when Giovanni was a good distance away. Just in case he decided to get violent again.

Kirsa and the two pups finished their light breakfast but the cadet did not immediately get up. Instead she tugged one of her gloves off, took up a bottle of water, and continuously filled her cupped hand with it so Hans and Rolf could each get a drink. They were so cute...she couldn't wait to obtain a Growlithe. Then she would have the trio! Too bad they were all the way in Kanto....where Sasha had gone. Damn! If she had thought about it Kirsa would have gone with her. Ah, well...There was always later.
Once the pups had their fill she wiped her hand off on her pants and put her glove on, then picked up the other water bottle to have a drink herself. "..Okay." Screwing the lid back on she stored both bottles in her bag for later and then got to her feet, peering down at her Pokemon. "Time to train. Hans, Rolf. Come." She snapped her fingers and headed for the beach. Sand was difficult to move in...if she trained them there, they would have experience in doing so in case it ever came up again. Kirsa waddled a little ways down the shoreline until she came to a spot she deemed worthy.
Ah, that's right...the PokeDex had been updated! Kirsa dug it out of her bag and flipped it open, going to the entry on Houndour and reading through it. Which meant Hans and Rolf were, for the moment, unsupervised. The Houndour was of course more than content to stand there, patiently waiting for his trainer to tell him what to do, but the Poochyena was not so well-behaved - he began to inch his way toward Hans, and all too soon he was leaping up to bite at an ear. And thus begins Round 2 of the wrestling match.

"I'll try the best I can Kilik," Mitsu answered watching the small Electric type take on another round. That Thunderpunch was starting to look menacing. She'd have to step up her game if she was going to support Cable. She turned to face her Pidgeotto. He'd been known to act on his own before, perhaps it wasn't the best of choices. "Dodge Zypher!" Mitsu called out watching the chilly, blue beam head straight for the bird's left wing. "Get out of there!"
Zypher narrowed his eyes at Mitsu before attempting to smash through the ice with a Steel Wing. It worked partially, but small chunks of ice remained on his wings. This, of course, caused him to go on a crash course straight for the ground, the ice throwing off the Pidgeotto's balance.
Mitsu gritted her teeth. Hadn't he just started obeying her? Had all that progress really gone down the drain with a few weeks absence? "Dammit," Mitsu muttered under her breath. If he was going to fall, he was going to fall. She might as well make the best of it. "Areial Ace the Roselia!" Mitsu commanded pointing at the Grass type for emphasis.
Zypher trilled before pushing his fall at an angle before smashing it into the Roselia's small body. The attack, after all, never missed. It even served to throw some small chunks of ice off his wings. However, it wasn't enough as the Pokemon crashed into the ground, trying to rid his left wing of the annoyance.
"Oh no! Rose!" Lily cried, clutching her heart. "Use, use. . . um. . uh. OH! Poison Sting! On the . . yellow thing!" The petite Roselia raised both hands. The blue and red roses turned a bright golden shade, shooting out glowing, purple darts at Cable.

Mai hung her coat up on the back of her door and kicked off her boots before she sat down on her bed. Her Espeon chose to release herself at this point and Mai smiled at the familiar Pokemon, glad she hadn't sent the Psychic-type into the fray. The Espeon's frame was so petite and delicate and Mai knew the powerful attacks from Cynthia's Garchomp would have crushed her in an instant.
"Espe?" questioned the Espeon, sniffing at the strange Pokeball in her mistress' hands. The Sun Pokemon's ears twitched curiously, wondering if Mai had acquired a new Pokemon.
"It belongs to my sister," Mai said dryly, turning the sphere over in her hands a few times. "I couldn't tell you what Pokemon it was without a scan."
It was at that point the willful Raichu decided she'd had enough of confinement for the time being, and just like that she burst from the Pokeball and materialized at Mai's feet. Mai stared at the mouse incredulously. She'd thought for sure she'd grabbed Kasiya's Marshtomp or Pupitar.
"Rai-chuu?" asked Shocker, blinking up at the evil woman. It only took a moment for her to recognize her, and almost instantly sparks began to flare from her yellow cheeks.
Mai froze. "Oh shi-"
Shocker let her Thunderbolt fly.
=-=-=-=-= No big deal, eh? thought Jaeshan, already trying to think of something he could give to the redhead as a present (everyone deserves gifts on their birthday, after all!), though when the Pidgeot landed in front of them he was just as startled as Keegan, though not to the point of thinking to attack it. "I think it's got something for you," he observed somewhat redundantly, watching Keegan take the package from the bird. "Looks like someone cares after all," he added with a chuckle.
=-=-=-=-= Surge had been sitting in his office for most of the evening, watching the newscasts from Slateport. He sat at his desk, staring blankly at the TV screen blankly. The sound was off, and at one point he glanced towards the door as the sounds of battle could be heard. The gym leader stood up, the floor creaking slightly beneath him as he strolled across the room and opened the office door, crossing his massive arms over his chest as he studied his next challenger. He knew the boy; he was one of his daughter's friends. The large man's brow furrowed. He hadn't heard from Kasiya in quite some time. Not since their rematch. His gaze fell on the boy as he passed by the now deactivated-electrical barrier, shouting out his challenge.
"I accept, Boy," he said curtly, striding forward so he was only a few feet in front of Mike. "But first, yer gonna tell me one thing. My daughter - is she safe?"

Good lord he had forgotten how huge he was. "Uh, y-yeah." replied Mike with a shaky smile. "I dropped her off at the Saffron Hospital." Maybe he should elaborate a bit. "S-She didn't want to leave my side, but I insisted. She's so stubborn. The rockets roughed her up a bit, but she's okay, I swear! You can call her if you want, I don't mind waiting!" Oh god please don't punch out all my blood. Coming here was a terrible idea. Mike let out a nervous laugh. "Haha, BOY it sure is vulnerable in here, why don't we put up that nice electric trap so it can be just the two of us huh?" He grinned, hoping to break the extremely tense situation (even though it was mostly a product of his paranoia).
Napalm's eyes widened when he saw the very large man step through the door. He was even bigger than the Snorlax. The Magby began to have second thoughts about battling this guy.

Soon the man had finished up his shopping and paid a random price Robin had named. He thanked her before he left with a smile on his face and treats in his hands. The moment he left the cart Robin let out a huge breath of relief. Well that wasn't so hard! She thought to herself. Maybe she could do this sort of thing and bring the snacks to everyone else on board. She couldn't have been the only one who had forgotten breakfast. With a smile on her face she got on the pushing end of the cart her mind made up. With a push she managed to get it headed towards the cabooses entrance. If she was pushing the cart to she wouldn't have to worry about picking things the other two wouldn't like either.
Luffy watched the two fight with a slightly confused look on his face. They were supposed to be robbing the train? Why were they fighting so much? Deciding that these two weren't really a thread Luffy climbed back onto the top of the train and made his way over to the fighting two. The duo didn't seem to notice them and instead just kept on fighting. Never one to like being ignored Luffy made a loud cry calling both of the mens attention to him. Both of them looked down at him in confusion.
"What the hell is that thing?"
"It's an Aipom man? Don't you know any pokemon other then the starters?"
"Hey man ******** you! I do so know other pokemon. I just haven't seen this one before is all."
"Well Aipom aren't all that common. People just don't raise them much."
"This one looks like it has a trainer. What with its hat and all."
"Yeah. Wonder what its doing up here though. Any responsible trainer would keep it in a pokeball, or at least watch it."
~~~~~~~
The Pidgeot was happy to take the box away from the scary redhead. It wasn't often the powerful bird dealt with humans and this one was the scariest one it had ever seen! Though the human who had given him the package was defiantly crazier though.
The note on the top of the package read 'Happy Birthday!' While inside of it was a hastily scribbled note.
Hey Keegan, It has been a long time since I last talked to you. Don't ask me how I found out it was your birthday either. Anyway I hope this is a welcome gift for you. Try not to be to down in the dumps. Dante Remington.
Inside of the small box rested a pokeball. Whatever was inside of it had to be the last of Dante's pokemon. It also had to be Keegan's birthday present from him. Whatever the boy was thinking sending his last pokemon to someone he had already given one to no one knew.
"Good. Now some battle practice. Poliwhirl, use Double Slap on Hitmonlee while he dodges. Go!" Poliwhirl nodded and jumped back into a fighting stance. Running forward, still a little awkward in his steps, Poliwhirl drew his hand out and swiped at Hitmonlee who dodged with ease. Annoyed by this Poliwhirl continued to swipe at Hitmonlee who kept dodging, taunting the newly evolved Poliwhirl by flicking his head with his fingers every time he stepped back. "Hitmonlee, stop clowning around! Poliwhirl you've got to concentrate on your strikes, don't just flail your arm around like some child. Now, again!" poliwhirl clenched his fists and leaped forward at Hitmonlee again, swiping much harder this time as he felt himself getting use to his new body. Hitmonlee continued to dodge, unable to flick the Tadpole Pokemon this time as his swipes grew faster, getting caught by the last few slapps in the attack. Enraged that this squishy fool who had been only a squirt not long ago had hit him, Hitmonlee retaliated by drawing back with Poliwhirl's last hit and answering with a devastating kick to the pokemon's stomach. "Hitmonlee! I don't recall asking you to fight back!" But Hitmonlee ignored his trainer, he didn't really respect him that much anyway. Instead he skipped forward and swung his leg at Poliwhirl, just barely missing with his kick only to catch him with the second kick. "Heh, you're still just a squirt no matter how much you grow. A helpless runt like you'll never be able to do anything right, no way in hell you're gonna get away with hitting me like that. And then that blond brat 'll get his for asking me to baby sit you." Hitmonlee said with a coarse laugh before swinging his leg around at Poliwhirl in an attempt to take him out now.
Had he a visible mouth Poliwhirl would have been grinning. Catching Hitmonlee's leg he swung him down and slammed him into the ground. "He he he, do not underestimate little ol' me silly Hitmonlee!" Poliwag spoke with a light airy tone as he jumped back, his new stronger body giving him much more confidence, especially now that he'd gotten use to using it. "Tisk tisk tisk, now why are you being so naughty? He may not be the nicest guy, but at least he isn't wet behind the ears! He he ha ha ha!" With that Poliwhirl shot out a strong jet of water from the center of the spiral down at Hitmonlee, who barely managed to dodge.
"You insolent whelp! I shall destroy you for that, I will snap you in two!" Hitmonlee charged forward at Poliwhirl with another rolling kick which Poliwhirl dodged by rolling away and continued to taunt the Kicking Pokemon who was growing furious at the slimy blue freak.
"Sorry, but I don't snap that well. To stretchy, he he he ha ha!" Poliwhirl said with a light tone as he balanced on one leg, bending his arms in an odd way. He felt a small tug inside them that hurt a little, now getting a good idea of where his elasticity ended. He did a little spin on his toes before coming to a sudden stop with his hand stretched out at Hitmonlee, releasing a powerful Ice Beam.
Before the attack could reach it's mark, Crenu recalled Hitmonlee to his pokeball, letting the icy attack fly off and dissipate over the beach. "Looks like Hitmonlee won't listen to me anymore...gonna have to do something about that." Crenu said with a calm voice, turning his attention to his Poliwhirl. "As for you...I don't care for your mischief. Though I must say I'm impressed with your quick adaptation to your evolved state as well as your improvement in power and control." Checking his watch, Crenu sighed. It didn't seem like that much time had past but the sun was already rising and the sky was starting to get bright, though he could still feel the welcoming cool morning breeze on his body. "I'll be right back, keep practicing that Ice Beam, I want a little more power now that you can control it better." With that he went back inside the pokecenter, the faint sounds of Poliwhirls Ice Beam fading as he made his way to the back where his washing machine had stopped. He tossed it in the dryer and decided that he'd check on Riza before heading out again, not at all sure why. The door to their room opened with an eerie creak as he poked his head inside, her pokemon sleeping on the bed with her. "...You up?" He said quietly, unsure if he really wanted to wake her if she wasn't.
As Keegan read over the note, a slight smile spread across his face and he looked up and around, as though expecting to see something or someone. "Dante... you sneaky b*****d," the redhead laughed, folding the note and stuffing it in his pocket. He had no idea how his old friend had been able to find out that today was his birthday, but that kind of added to the mystery of it. He carefully opened the small box, practically flinching as he did so for he fully expecting the thing to explode in his face or something. When it didn't, he peered inside, amazed to find a single Pokeball. He studied it carefully, not really knowing why Dante would give him something like this, but the more he thought about it, the more he suspected that there was more to this gift than just an empty Pokeball.
He glanced at Jaeshan for a moment before he clicked open the Pokeball, now expecting to see nothing happen, as that was the kind of prank Dante would pull. This wasn't the case though, as the light died down and Keegan found himself looking at possibly the happiest Sealeo in the entire univers. "Shiva," he said, grinning. "Long time no see, how you been?" Just like that the boy's mood seemed to improve somewhat as he knelt down to pat her on the head. Shiva barked happily, obviously all right with her new arrangements. She seemed to remember the redhead well enough, and he seemed to remember her, and that's all that was important to the Sealeo.
Kilik growled. This wasn't good. They had the type advantage, for sure: His Cable was good against the Sealeo and her Pidgeotto was strong to the other girl's Roselia. Unlike the last battle, though, they didn't have a disadvantage to worry about: this time it was in the form of the Sealeo. Ice-types would destroy her Pidgeotto. I have to watch out for her just as much as she has to watch out for me. His fist clenched tightly but he winced - the cuts in his hand were starting to hurt even more. He dropped his hands to his sides.
"Cable! Flip out of the way and slam that Sealeo again with a Shock Wave!" He needs to keep his distance, he thought, I can't risk a close range attack! The plug dashed out of the way, feeling the prickles of the Poison Sting contact his foot. He winced, but luckily the damage was minimal and he didn't succumb to the after effects. Cable lifted his hands above his head and began to pant heavily. He was certainly getting tired. After charging up his attack, Cable let the Shock Wave go, aimed right at the Sealeo!
He looked over his shoulder to see if the boy was following. At least he was determined, he had to give him that. His hands were clasped behind his back. He entered the gymnasium and let the other boy in before him. "You will battle me, three on three. You will be allowed one substitution; if you feel a Pokemon cannot battle, you may switch it out. This will be like a Gym battle," he explained, "Only I will not give you a prize on the slim chance that you happen to best me."
He pulled up a Pokeball. "And as the challenger, you have first pick." A smirk appeared on his features.
The fisherman took the girl's smooth hands in his rough ones and shook them heartily. The motion left M.A.'s shoulder feeling a bit tickly, but she really was considerably stronger if she took "her goddamn iron," as Sae would say. "Good battle! And it really got me goin'! I'm dry, see," he laughed throatily, thumping the girl's back now, nearly sending her into the river herself.
"Me too, thanks," M.A. said, grinning like an idiot despite her near fall. She had forgotten how much fun battles could be, if you found good-hearted opponents like these. It was a shame, though, that she didn't find such opponents more often; the naive girl had begun to realize that not everyone but out there was cordial, or even well-meaning. Ulani had opted to take a rid on the Tora train too, falling asleep in front of Diego, who looked pretty happy as he painted something on his little sketchbook. M.A. had grown used to this sight by now and was no longer as curious about every one of the Smeargle's compositions. They were simply too numerous. How his sketchbook never ran out of pages was one of the law-bending anomalies of the Pokemon universe.
"Are you going back to town to heal up?" M.A. asked, referring to Slateport, which she still figured must be around the corner or something. "Oh, no, we'll both be fine. If I throw me Gyarados into the water for a while, he'll be good as new," the man chuckled. "Take care! If you happen upon this way sometime during the weekends, I"ll be here without fail! I'll want a rematch, girl!"
"Alright!" and so with a cheery wave, she continued to meander onwards.
"Wait, what's your name, girl!"
"M.A.!"
"Fisherman Joe by weekends, the Joe the Card Shark by weekdays!"
M.A. blinked. Slateport had a casino? Musta missed it, she shrugged, as she passed the sign indicating the city limits of Mauville. Which, naturally, she didn't really pay attention to. Being a big city and all, she simply figured she entered another part of Slateport, although she could have /sworn/ that she had gone through here before? Some while ago? Well, whatever. She wasn't too far away from her family, so they probably wouldn't panic or anything. Time to head to the PokeCenter! Odd, Slateport must have two, 'cause this one was familiar but definitely different than the one she stayed at yesterday.
