Well, basically, they're a villain that the audience can relate to and doesn't particularly hate. Sometimes they might even object to harming said villain.
Say the party is ambushed while traveling deep into a wild area. Sudden generation of mist, magical attacks flung in from nowhere, and so on and so forth. It COULD be some evil bandit trying to kill the heroes and steal their stuff... or someone desperately trying to protect their small community from intruders and drive away people who'd love to enslave and sell them all. ^^

Eh, 8 seemed like a good level. XD The villain's meant to be a little on the immature side, after all, not a master in full possession of their mystic abilities.
*Has a main party featuring a highly charismatic godling, a serious samurai, a foxgirl, and ultimately a construct* Yay for mashups! XD Just like tabletop games, eh?
*Should get at least a few cards tomorrow* o wo

That's the goal, yeah. XD I mean, I COULD do Human/Elf/Dwarf, but why stick only with the basics when there are so many options available? ^^

People don't like thinking outside the box. XD One of my friends, for example, his character is a Dragonborn with clipped wings. He can't fly, but does get a large bonus to his jump ability. ... Had a critical miss on a jump, fell and broke his leg. XD

Though, it does help when you have a number of characters to work with. Now, then... ^^
