Console games are tangible (possibly increasing in value over time) and they don't need any ongoing support.

Thanks to a friend in California, I understand just enough about game programming to understand that every few years a game online basically has to be rebuilt with updated code to keep up with more modern cheaters and hackers. If they do not rebuild zOMG! from the ground up with new coding, there's no way to regulate the game and keep it fair. I figured that the game was done when I read their post saying that they needed to take it down for critical repairs, but I also know that the Gaia Staff really loved the game, regardless of its profitability, because is was a labor of love.

Although I wonder how much of the original staff who had this dream is still with Gaia to see it end. We lost many of the old people who grew the site, and I know several of the programmers left with L0cke and VO and Lanzer and more have left since then. EDIT: False alarm on Lanzer. My point still stands.

My point still stands. You make a valid point. I also understand that a lot of the old staff left Gaia due to the overall movement away from being a free site to an actual business. However, I will also assert that a lot of coders and programmers would probably love the opportunity to work on a game at least once, although more practical matters like not being a starving artist probably came into play when they decided on a major in University. Perhaps they may find a way to save zOMG! or make a new version, but because it is not a revenue generator currently, I'm sure they'll "fix" that as well.

My point still stands. I was thinking the same thing. Yes, the staff loved ZOMG but I don't think most of those people are still staff now. From what I have heard, most, if not all the ZOMG developers no longer work at Gaia.

FORTRAN77 EDIT: False alarm on Lanzer. After his stepping down, Lanzer replied to one of my topics. *fangirl screams* lol

Blufoo It's 39° F where I'm at. I love it. biggrin It's 3° right now, and it's supposed to hit -7° at some point. There's a foot of snow on the ground. Surprisingly, I'm ok with the weather right now. Everything's really pretty and this afternoon the sun was out and it looked like someone dumped a 10 gallon drum of glitter from the water tower, which is something the pictures can't show. Talk to me when it hits -40°. O_O I'll probably be plotting a trip to Kissimmee at that point.
