Ladies and gentlemen

After a conversation with Aire earlier today, we have come to the decision to make some changes to a few rules that have either been bugging us, or that we feel could use some retooling.

The first of these is the HM system. After realizing that the entire reason that HMs exist in the games along with the badge properties is to limit the player to a set path, we concluded that this is not what we want for TTR, which we try to have as open ended as possible. This new rule would re-purpose HMs to something more akin to TMs, with Pokemon that are able to learn the HMs having the latent ability to do so, but within reason. For example, I don't see why one would need a special disc to tell a Scyther he can slice an obscuring shrub, or for a Wailord to carry someone on its back. The limitation for this change would be based on the form of the Pokemon. I don't see people flying on Pidgey anytime soon, but far be it from me to tell a Machamp he can't push a rock. Or if an Omanyte wanted to help ferry its trainer across the water, that's fine, but it would take a while and probably not be very fast.

We are trying to add a level of realism and practicality that can be enjoyed by both old and new players. We may take certain factors into account, such as Pokemon with the ability Huge Power or Sheer Force being physically stronger at lower forms, but of course we will contact trainers of these Pokemon when these rules come into effect.

The next rule will hopefully add a bit of mystery and excitement to the battles. For those who have been around a while, Pokemon battles can get pretty monotonous. (We didn't get those fifties by sittin' on our hands!) So what we are considering is utilizing the dice system that was implemented in the posts a while back. This would apply to moves with accuracy and on-hit effects. What we hope to accomplish with this is to give battles a bit more of a random effect to them, to somewhat balance fights so that matches aren't entirely predetermined by the players, or to maybe provide a few upset wins and losses. The current system is entirely based on the honor system, and while that works with most of it, we feel that it might make the core of the game (the battles) more interesting and unpredictable.

For example. Heat Wave has 90 accuracy and a 10% chance to burn. While you are posting in the main roleplay thread, you will make a post in the OOC rolling two sets of die. Now if you would please look above this post.

The way this would work is that accuracy would be determined upward, while effects would be downward. As you can see the dice above, the first one was within 1-90, so it hits. If it were 91 or above, it would miss. The second, however, was a 24, and would not incur a burn. Since Heat Wave is 10%, if it were a 1-10 it would have succeeded. This will also be applied to other things such as status effects, such as rolling a d3 (a d6 with the numbers halved rounding down) to determine how long a Pokemon is asleep, or a d4 for Pokemon that are paralyzed, with a 1 being full paralysis, and 2-4 having it be able to move.

It may seem daunting at first, but if you think about it, we've all played the games, and most of us have some experience with table top, so I feel this will be pretty easy for everyone to pick up.
