"Oh, cool! A Bellsprout! Thanks for spotting that, Miharu!" Kurine said happily, watching the grass pokemon walking along. "I can try to get Sentret to battle it." She then added, unclipping the normal-type pokemon's pokeball.
As she released Sentret, Kurine looked at the Bellsprout and said softly, "Hey there, little Bellsprout! Wanna have a battle with me and my Sentret?" The Bellsprout blinked and looked over. Sentret took a step toward it, and it stopped.
"Sentret, Scratch!" Kurine said. The Sentret paused for a slight moment. It knew it had been captured, but was hesitant about listening to a human. "Oh, please listen to me..." Kurine said, somewhat unhappily.

The bluish cone of fire struck not only with burning pain, but a stroke of realization: Why was he focusing on the Breloom who wasn't attacking when this blasted bug had hit him with two consecutive moves. Acting without an order from his trainer, the Cobra Pokemon detached from Portabello and lunged forward, aiming a Bite attack at the menacing Bahamut.
A delightful surprise to be sure, as P.B. wasn't too fond of having the life squeezed out of him by that monstrous reptile. No sooner had he shaken his vision clear than he had another sight to challenge if they were working properly. Portabello distinctly remembered only fighting one Electrode, not twelve. Verily, this must be an elaborate ruse! Called out the Breloom to his Master.
He used Double Team P.B. He created copies of himself to confuse you, keep on your toes and use your best judgment to find the right one. Mike crossed his arms, the lack of danger in this fight would make for an ideal display on how the Fighting Pokemon worked under these conditions. No Mind Reader.
No Mind Reader? Why not? If his Master wanted a quick decisive victory than that would be the best option by far. Oh well, we'll have to try another way.
The Breloom looked around, the ball-like Pokemon had him surrounded, but only one was real. It was an uneasy feeling, being watched by an upside of twenty four eyes, even if only two could see him for real. Now... Thought Portabello, eying the copies closely. Which one is the real one? Breaking the problem down in his mind, he thought of it like a clock, Master being the six o' clock marker, and the Walrien looking man the twelve. Let's try seven! The Pokemon let out a grunt, upheaving a ball of explosive toxin and vomiting it at the seven o' clock Electrode, hoping for the Sludge Bomb to hit its mark.

Kilik winced when the Bite connected with Vibrava's wing. He gulped then tapped his chin again. What else was he able to do? "Try...Rock...Tomb?" Kilik blinked. He looked over at Mike and shrugged. What else could he do but continue to guess at what Bahamut knew?
The Pokemon shook off the attack and swooped down to the Gym's floor. With an impressive display of strength, Bahamut pulled a large chunk out of the floor and tossed it at Arbok's head. She buzzed about happily, her two front 'hands' clapping together.
Kilik ran his thumb over his nose. Three for three, that was good. Maybe he could guess for an Earthquake next! ...Probably not... he sighed.
Walrus chuckled, then pointed at the 'seven o' clock' Electrode. It disappeared suddenly and the copies shifted a bit to fill in the gap. He cleared his throat forcefully then drummed his stomach twice. Together, all the Electrodes fired off a Shock Wave aimed for Breloom.

Ky swung around when he heard Bugsy's booming voice. Though he was unable to speak for a moment in shock, Ky eventually spoke up. "It... it's me... Ky, from yesterday. This is m..my friend M.A., she was he..he...here yesterday too, uh...." Ky said with a stutter. He glanced around the gym and realized just how much damage they had done. Not only were his trees burnt, but the sprinklers had drenched everything, not to mention the huge holes Sting and the Scyther had left which were now pools of water. "Oh god, what if that Scyther was Bugsy's?" Ky thought in panic. Feeling close to hyperventilation, Ky took a bit of time to just explain. "We were just coming so M.A. could challenge you. We waited for a while and then someone just turned off the lights. Then that Scyther over there attacked us and... and..." Ky was starting to lose his cool. He really didn't want to be arrested. Maybe M.A. had a way out of this?

It was amazing how intimidating and assertive the Gym Leader could be, despite his age and his (dare she say it?) height. Not to mention, the preteen was in his PJs. Yet beneath his distrustful, irate gaze, M.A. felt as if she had been caught red-handed in some crime -- and although she was rather tall compared to Bugsy, she felt as if she had shrunk away. Or at least she wanted to shrink away.
But when Ky spoke (evidently he was shaken up a bit too), it gave M.A. enough time to gather up bits and pieces of her composure and confidence. For one, they hadn't meant to do anything wrong. And here this Bugsy fellow was, already accusing them of . . . well, okay, it did look pretty bad on their part, but they certainly hadn't meant to be attacked by some raging Scyther. They hadn't even known that the gym was closed until after they entered and some Gym underling huffed out.
Under this feeling of being cornered, the rare, defensively-aggressive nature of Mary-Anne came to the surface. She would /not/ stand for their being seen as ill-meaning hooligans! "Okay, you know what? We're sorry we didn't know the gym was closed. We're sorry that this rabid Scyther came out of nowhere. We're sorry that we tried to stop a fire."
Okay, the angry little flame in M.A. died out as quickly as it had sprung to life and she sighed slowly, letting the fumes leave. Her biting words probably didn't help matters, but still, she couldn't have helped it at the time. More calmly and earnestly now, she added, "I'm really sorry about the fire damage; it was accidental, and we didn't mean to make a mess. But we can help clean it up and pay for the repair work, I'm sure." She didn't know if Ky would appreciate her speaking on his behalf, but at the very least they could help out a bit.

"Yes, a very good battle indeed, from what I saw," Keegan added, remembering quite well how Helios would battle when he was less experienced. With the exception of Vixy not knowing Heat Wave, the battle style was remarkably similar. He was also glad to know that Hiro would be fine once his leg healed, although he knew it would be difficult for Kasiya without the Arcanine by her side.
Having become lost in his own thoughts, he nearly missed Kasiya's statement about Cinnabar Island. It caused him to think, for he'd been wanting go get back to Lavaridge to challenge Flannery, but at the same time, training against stronger Pokemon could be just what he needed to gain an edge over the fiery gym leader back home. "I'll go," he piped up suddenly (having missed the part about traveling by ferry, otherwise he might have thought otherwise). "I could use the training before I challenge Flannery back home. And besides, if things get to be too tough for me, I have you to protect me," he added, grinning coyly.

Miharu just nodded, and gave Kurine and her Pokemon some space as she continued her own search. A pair of Rattata darted out from under a nearby shrub and dashed across the path before disappearing into a small hole, presumably their burrow. Miharu remembered how she and Tingle had battled quite a few young trainers with Pidgey and Rattata when she'd first started out, and she grinned at the memories, glad those days were behind her. Having two badges now, she felt a lot less like a rookie, and more like a real trainer, especially now that she was trying to acquire a fifth Pokemon for her party.
She glanced up to see where Aska had gone, but she couldn't see the Pidgeotto anywhere. However, the bird's strong wings would carry her back the moment she saw something, or if her trainer were to call her. Miharu sat down on a rock, glancing at Kurine and her Sentret every now and then. She was very new to this Pokemon hunting thing, for she'd won Tingle as a prize, and Lily had been an egg. She'd only tried fishing to see what it was like and had caught Starrie as a result, and Aska had followed her from the Ilex Forest. Other than Kurine, there weren't even any other trainers around she could ask, and she couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed at the moment. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a small flock of Spearow drift down from a tree and begin to peck at the ground, and she sighed, wondering if perhaps Mareep were more infrequent in that area than she'd originally imagined.

Ray found himself getting pinch by his Charmander. They when in a small patch of grass. "It seems like something happened, but I can't remember. How did we get here Flametail?" His Charmander shrugged, not knowing either. Ray stood up and dusted his pants. "We should head to Peter Ci-" Flametail showed Ray the travel book. "Oh, Pewter City. Well, we should go there soon if we want to be tough." Flametail smiled and jumped on Ray's back. "Ready?"

"If only there was a shortcut I knew to get to Pewter City." Ray scratched his head. Looking at the guide book, he saw he could head north to Cerulean City. "Hey, there's a gym there..." He looked down at his Charmander jumping. "What are you doing?" Flametail smiled and started to dance. "What is it? Ray quickly said, "You found a girl in trouble? And she needs me and soon will be my girlfriend? Then get married and have kids?" Flametail stopped, looking at Ray with a hard stare. Ray looked down and sighed. "I know, I know. I'm pathetic. Anyways, what are you happy about?" Flametail took a deep breath, moving his head back. He opened his mouth and let a small ball of fire, landing close to Ray's shoes. Ray was amazed and quickly looked through his guide. "That was ember. You know a new move? Yeah!!!" Ray and Flametail were excited and started to dance.

"Thanks," Maven smiled nervously, looking down at Vixy. Her soft fur was a bit singed from the Oddish's Acid, but it wasn't anything serious. "I don't battle much, but I am in training to become a Coordinator." When Kasiya spoke of Cinnabar Island, the first thing that came to mind was the volcano. "I-I don't think I'll be going with you," she said sadly, looking down so her hair fell down, hiding her face. From everything her cousin had told her about trainers, it was that they seldom that they stayed in one place for very long.
"There's a Pokemon Contest coming up soon, and I really should continue training for that," she went on. "But maybe we'll see each other again someday?" she asked hopefully, petting Vixy's head almost compulsively. Wow, this isn't me, Maven thought, a little surprised at her sudden bravery. I don't want them to leave, but at the same time I do, because I know they'll have all kinds of great stories to tell me when that time comes. The little Vulpix looked up at her, and grinned, as best a little fox could grin, then licked Maven's nose, like she was telling her that it would be all right. Maven smiled, kissing Vixy on the forehead. It will be all right.

"Of course we'll see each other again," Kasiya told her reassuringly. "Besides, you have to tell us all about the contests. And, I'm going to give you my PokeNav number so we can keep in touch," she added, holding up the device so Maven could see. "You can call me anytime you need to, even if it's just to talk or say hello."
It seemed like Maven had gained quite a bit of confidence since they'd met the previous evening, something that made Kasiya quite happy. It pained her to see people down on themselves, especially when she didn't know the reasons why. Perhaps she and Maven would become better friends in the future, and she'd tell her then, but for now, Kasiya was content just knowing that she'd helped to bolster someone's confidence, even it if was just a little bit. I hope she keeps it up, Kasiya thought, watching Maven with Vixy. I bet she'll make a pretty good Coordinator.

Deciding to follow Kasiya's lead, Keegan nodded, also getting out his own PokeNav. "I've discovered that we'll make tons of friends along our journeys to do whatever it is we want to do, and we'll go off on our own separate directions now and then, but we always end up meeting again. It's inevitable." Listen to me, he thought, blinking. I sound like some corny cliché or something.
"Plus, you've got to keep me updated on how Vixy is doing. You said she needs to become stronger, and I'm going to hold you to that," he chuckled, winking at her. He was glad now that they'd met, as it was always good to meet new people. It seemed obvious to him that something had happened to her when she was younger, but it wasn't anybody's place but hers to find her way out of it.

Maven continued to smile as she swapped numbers with Kasiya and Keegan, and as she looked down at their names listed in her own phone, she couldn't help but feel that it had finally sunk in. I have friends, she thought, feeling as though something had been lifted from her. Real friends!
"Vixy will get strong," Maven said, looking to Keegan. "I promised her that when we first met." As if to agree, Vixy let out a small purring sound, and nodded her head. Maven also knew that she had to get back to preparing for the contest, and she wasn't sure if Vixy was strong enough for the contest or not. However, Maven didn't plan on giving up on the Vulpix, just like she would never give up on Phyra. "Um, I'm not sure how to say this, but I want to thank you guys," she said, trying to hide behind her hair once again to disguise her embarrassment. "I've never had any real friends before, and you guys have sh-shown me that friendship does exist. I-I just wanted to say thanks."

Kasiya didn't really know how to respond to being thanked for being who she was, but she smiled. "You're welcome," she said simply, having found nothing better to say. Then, she took a few steps forward to give Maven a gentle hug, so that she wouldn't accidentally squish Vixy. "Take care of yourself," she told her new friend softly. "Don't let anyone tell you what to be. And as Vixy grows stronger, I want you to grow stronger too." She stepped back, having to hold back a few tears that threatened to escape. "You should pull your hair back," she added, tilting her head a little as she looked like Maven. "You don't have to hide who you are, not from anyone. Don't ever forget that." By now, she'd run out of things to say, which was probably a good thing, since she was starting to feel like a counselor or a self-help book or something.

She wasn't sure how long she sat there for, but it didn't seem like that long as suddenly Miharu could hear Aska calling to her on the wind. The Pidgeotto's voice was coming from the south, closer to Union Cave. Without hesitation, Miharu leapt up from her position on the rock and headed towards her Pidgeotto, her heart racing with excitement. Perhaps Aska had discovered a Mareep? Or maybe she was in trouble... Shaking that possibility out of her mind, she continued to run down the path, keeping alert in case she came across a Mareep as well.
After a few minutes, she arrived near the Pokemon Center to find Aska, flying a little ways off the ground, shrieking at something she'd apparently cornered against the building's wall. A soft bleating could be heard, and as Miharu approached her Pokemon, she could see that Aska had indeed found a Mareep. It looked to be rather young, and a bit scared, but at the same time it held a look of determination. Miharu didn't think that Aska would be able to battle it without making it faint or causing it to run away, so she decided to start out simple. "Aska, good job," she said, nodding. "We need to weaken it enough to capture it, so try to tone down your attacks a little bit. Start off with Sand-Attack!"
Lowering her head, Aska began to flap her wings rapidly, kicking up a blast of sand from the ground. Letting out a frightened cry, the Mareep shut its eyes tightly to avoid getting sand in them, and it grit its teeth as a jolt of electricity flared up from its woolly body and arched out, striking Aska for a rather good hit. The bird could feel her wings growing tight, and she couldn't maintain her flight, as she'd become paralyzed by the attack.
