Big question conserning about Ravenwing bike squads:

In Space Marine Codex, the bike squads are armed with frag grenades
and can be "upgradet" to have Kraks or Meltabombs.

In Dark Angels Codex, it does not say that ravenwings have those options
and only mentionable thing in the "update"-paper errata, is that all ravenwings
have "skilled rider" rules and ravenwings do not have command squads.

I´m only asking about the grenades:
Does anyone have any better knowledge about ravenwing bike squads also
having grenades melta bombs possible?
I tryed looking the errata and everywhere else in gw´s website,
but don´t seem find any solution for this question.

Ravenwing squads do not have acess to meltabombs. Their wargear and stats stay the same as found in the DA Second Edition codex. I've called GW before with this question and that is official answer. You can give your sergeant a meltabomb as wargear, but that's it untill they release a FAQ saying so or the new codex.

No idea, Ive yet to ever see them used. maybe if the shotgun was improved or something people would. I wish there was a use because I like the way the models look. But S3 no AP just for an assault shot isnt worth it.

That's.... that's what I thought. Tragic.

there really is no point. bolt pistols will get you better reults. 1 shot at S4 then you charge and get 3 more S4 attacks

shotgun give 2 S3 attacks followed by a charge with 2 S4 attacks

the only reason I would think you want a shotgun over a bolt pistol, is if you wanted to do more dammage before you assulted.

For example: you wanna charge demonetts, they'd tear scouts apart in close combat before you got your attacks so you would rather just blast em with the shotguns to soften their numbers before the actual charge.

However, I agree and think there should be a special rule for shotguns to represent the pellet spread and I think this would work perfect:

At 1-6' the shotgun is S4 AP- assult 2

at 7-10' the shotgun is S3 AP- assult 2

at 11-12' the shotgun is S2 AP- assult 1

whataya think?

Edit: or even better! how about firing a solid slug?

that could be S5 AP 5 assult 1 or somthing. twisted

Yep. That's pretty much what I assumed. Damn my desire for representative weaponry! stressed

Sounds good, but it's too much of a rule section for the average game of 40k. Why, if the shotgun has to go up in strength, then the lasgun and autogun also need their upgrade.

too much space? it's just 3 lines of text!

what upgrades would the laz/autogun need? I think they're fine as is.

Gotta admit I wouldn't mind just one alternate shotgun ammo. Doesn't someone get that?
PostPosted: Sun Nov 19, 2006 12:58 pm

I agree the range based thing is too long for the nice simple weapon rules for the average weapon. Also if we're representing pellets then it should be more a case of enemies hit not strength.

So rather I garee with the idea of different ammo types. Solid slug rounds or pellet rounds. To me that sounds appropriate and more realistic to the way militaries use them.

If you want a shotgun with different stats, play Necromunda or Inquisitor. For 40k, leave it the way it is, too many rules for just one insignificant weapon slows the game down and to repeat my motto: the people are ******** stupid.

I meant, doesn't someone already get alternate shotgun ammo. Having done my own research since posting yesterday, the answer is no. razz

Assuming the codexes hadnt already been done its hardly complicated to say:
Shotgun (pellet) S3 AP-
Shotgun (slug) Swhatever APwhatever.

Two weapons like missile launchers, grenades, etc. Not complicated at all you add a stat and the person just decides what type they want before the game begins.

Well the game has been consistently dumbed down over time. I'm guessing that it's just to accomadate the influx of children that the market is gearing for now.
