I'm a trumpet and piano player, but I'm thinking about giving the tenor sax a try. Any advice?
[I might not take lessons for sax until my sophomore year (I'm currently a freshman), btw. I still wanna learn to play it though.]

Do it! I love tenor sax, it's so much fun to play. Advice...uh, I guess it'll feel a bit weird for you to actually have the mouthpiece inside your mouth, so lessons will definitely help. Personally, I don't think learning saxophone fingerings is too hard, so the main thing you'll want to focus on is your sound.

I'll keep that in mind, thank you smile

I want to learn tenor. I don't play a sax yet, though. I play clarinet, and tenor's in the same key, so it will be easy to learn; I'm probably going to play it for pep band this year.

ooh coolio
i play tenor, its super easy just a little heavy for me :3
the sound it emits though is strong and beautiful

I love playing tenor because of the mellow and sometimes sad sound of the subtones to the upbeat squeel of the altissimos. Man i've been playing too much alto lately i need to pick up my tenor.

I'm not sure if this is right or not, since I'm only playing sax for marching band, so I don't use vibrato, but I've been told it's in your jaw. I sometimes have a little fake vibrato when my jaw is shaking from being cold... xd I think it's really slight, though, not like you're moving your jaw like crazy, or anything, just slightly changing the pressure on the reed.

I've heard that you can just click your tongue against the roof of your mouth really quickly, like you're purring. I can't do it, though.
And btw, I play alto. One of my friends can play alto and tenor, another can play alto and bari, one can play tenor, and one can play alto. That I know of. I've also experimented and can get a pretty good sound out of a trumpet, a French horn, a clarinet, an oboe, and a flute. So there. X3

Ya. it is fluttertonguing.

I find, with the vibrato, it comes naturally, you know? Like you can tell, artistically, where it would sound good, and you just let the note warble.
In my opinion, it shouldn't require much thinking about it. But that's just me.

And, of course you most likely wont use it in a concert band song, 'cause you'd sound off of everyone else.
Its more for jazz band/soloing.

I play the Alto and Tenor Saxophone and I love it. I used to play classical in the band I was in last year but now I'm in high school, and now I play Pop, Rock, and '80s. That's just in Concert Band. In Jazz band I play... well Jazz. But we are playing stuff like Thriller, Children of Sanchez, Calle Caliente, And an '80s dance medley. Where we play a lot of songs from the '80s in an eleven minute song! It is amazing. I love Music.
