A few months earlier...
Leaving the arena for the day, Deborah stretches her arm from the long day of sparring. As something catches her eye, she stops, always cautious of her surroundings, and then sighs lightly upon realizing who she saw. "What dis time?"
"You fought well, today." Taking a step away from the wall he was leaning on, Rath moves next to Deborah and continues to walk with her.
"I'm not repeatin' meself."
"..." Rath had forgotten how straight to the point she was. "The kingdom has decided to put together another expedition to Aevis. It's intent is research, but we don't know what to expect. Since there could be danger, we're sending a detachment of troops to accompany the research team. The research team will consist of members from the Zeon house and Lord Zeon has volunteered one of his vessels to make the voyage."
Deborah feigned ignorance and said nothing, already knowing where this was going.
"...We want you to lead the team."
"Why?"
"You grew up in a similar jungle-like climate. You've lived and survived for months or years in almost every climate imaginable. You are the most experienced and fitting for the job. I would not place the lives of these people in anybody else's hands."
Deborah stops. "...Nobody evah come back from dat place, yah?"
Rath stops a pace ahead of her and looks back. "...Yes."
"..." Deborah smirks. "Sound like a vacation to me. Fine, vice captain, I'll lead ya team. But I hope I'm not de only one wit survival experience."
Rath grins slightly. "Not at all. This isn't a guild mission, so other members aren't involved, but I know a man. He's from the Mordachean swamps. He lived there for years. I think his experience will aid you immensely."
Deborah raises an eyebrow. "He survive dere? Hm. Not a place I'd stay in for long, dat's for sure. Why not ask him tah lead?"
"He's... not exactly a people person."
Deborah laughs. "Perfect. We'll get along fine den."
"You depart in a couple days. Lord Zeon can brief you on everything you need to know. Good luck."
"Luck never really been my ting. But don worry, considah deh job done."
