It was never explicitly shown, but she was taken by hellhounds. / Which are some badass invisible dogs; from hell, obviously. =P
And it's later heavily implied that Dean tortured her in hell, being his first victim. 'Cause there's this thing in hell, where they torture you for a really long time; but they give you the option to become a torturer instead, to corrupt your soul further, I guess. And Dean broke, 'cause the torture must have been extreme.

And to answer your question, it was anticlimactic; very much so! But Lauren(Bela) rocked that final scene, I can't help but cry everytime. D'=
"See you in hell." Dean to a sobbing Bela, before hanging up and leaving her to face hellhounds alone. She is killed.
