"Auuugh," Gloria groaned, "Bloody jingle ******** bells!"

Mock-sobbing, she fell against Damien's shoulder as if reduced to dreadful pain by the cheerful, Christmassey music. The Wicked Witch of the West had water. Gloria had Christmas cheer.

"There, there, sweet flower of darkness," he said, patting her happily on the shoulder.

"It's burning my skiiin! Zuri couldn't bloody stand this."

"Oh, I don't know," said Zuri herself, popping in at her side out of nowhere, "I hope he does Away in a Manger. That one's my favourite. Ooh, ooh, or Jingle Bell Rock!"

"Hey there!" Damien gasped, eyes boggling as they made a quick up-and-down-and-up sweep of the goddess in their midst, "You look amazing!"

Gloria, indifferent to the effects Zuri's presence had on any and all men in her immediate vicinity, brought up her hand and clapped it over his eyes. "Heya, Zur."

"Red suits you so well!" she chirruped, "Have you tried the eggnog? It's FOUL!"

"Thanks. Purple suits you down to the ground, of course. Everything does. And everything tastes foul to you, too," Gloria commented. At that moment, Sam, in a daze, finally managed to trip his way over to them.

"H-hi!" he whispered, eyes locked on Zuri, "Wow! You look amazing!"

"Not everything," Zuri smiled, turning to Sam, "Love the chest, sweetheart, but I'm not hungry, so why don't you just go stand over there?"

"Okay!" he happily agreed, surging away through the crowd to isolate himself in the corner at her command. In his place there were suddenly ten more men, crowding near, often at the shrill protestations of their dates.

"Oh dear," Zuri said, rolling her big, bright eyes, "I'd better go, before I cause any undue trouble."

"I'll talk to you outside," she said, but Zuri had already popped away.

"I'm blind!" Damien complained. "Blind!"

Gloria nonchalantly pulled her hand away.

"Oh. Okay."

Several minutes after heading back off the stage for the second time, Lorika was busy handling the crisis that was the sheer amount of guests who had turned out for the occassion. That meant ordering the outside speakers and lighting to be switched on, and then checking it herself to make sure it had been done. Predictably, it hadn't, and so she was left to activate the enchantments by herself. Shivering, she made a quick trip to Thomas' enclosure, where she allowed him to rant at her about the noise and disturbance to his busy schedule for several minutes before asking him politely to place some kind of heating or insulation spell in the area immediately surrounding the Temple just for that evening. He grudgingly replied that he'd see what he could do.

Fortunately, the fruits of her labours were quite rewarding. Eventually, when people got tired of dancing and eating and wandering around, they'd be able to filter outside and... wander and dance and eat out there. This would thin the hot crush of people inside the main hall.

She entered the main hall again feeling rather like she was never going to be able to unwind, and was immediately set upon by people - outsiders mainly, as the other members were too busy enjoying the big party they'd been working towards to say much more than a familiar "hello!" or "Happy Christmas Eve!" - who wanted to talk to her about this, that and the other. She ended up talking to singles and couples alike, and people kept on drifting into the group, until it felt like she was lecturing a group of her students. Never a moment's peace, eh?

Eventually, after quite a few songs, she managed to free herself with the excuse of informing everyone that heating, light and sound enchantments had been placed outside, apologising to Mirassou again for commandeering his mic for announcements. The news was greeted with general appreciative murmurs, however, and people almost immediately began to move outside, loosening the tight knot of activity and chatter. People were now a bit more free to dance if they desired, though the real dancing wouldn't begin until later, when the music reverted to club-and-disco mode. It was "eight 'til late" for a reason!

Before she could get sucked into talking to another group, she hurried out of the room, apologising to those who'd been waiting for her to return, and headed back down into the stairwell. Phew. Somehow it had all been so much easier during the War. Almost as if she'd taken it all on in some kind of trance.

She'd head back up in a little while. In her head she saw the image of herself standing on the edge of the room like an old chaperone of a high school dance. Maybe she'd eat something from the hot buffet. God she was hungry. But she needed to be on hand to greet the esteemed guests who may have been dropping by...

She'd probably head back up in a little while.

Yugai had been running around, making sure his things were in order for his act and his outfit in order. Things were going well. At least there wasn’t any pressure to perform tonight. Maybe this would go well. This was the first time he had ever gotten excited about performing. He still couldn’t mess up, however, he had to get this right, or else he might lose his shot at a new home, a new beginning away from that wretched Cirque De Gothique.

Okay, Yugai, you can do this. Freakshow, I’ll make you proud of me. I managed to get out of that circus, now I’m going to make a name for myself. Wish me luck. Sighing softly, Yugai fixed his little hat and stretched his long limbs. Thankfully, he had the hat pinned into his hair so it wouldn’t fall off.

Resting his hands in the air, he lifted his lower half of the body up and did a hand stand, walking around on his hands, practicing and trying to entertain himself. He was anxious to do his act, but he didn’t want to be too excited and mess up the act. Moving out from back stage, he walked on his hands through the crowed before flipping forward and landing on his feet. Maybe it was time to start mingling with people and stop being so damn shy.

It was hard to interact with people, however. He didn’t want to be judged so harshly as he had in the circus, but when someone would walk up to him, he didn’t turn them away. His voice was soft and he spoke carefully, hoping not to offend anyone. His tail swished in excitement behind himself, it felt good to be among everyone else instead of being ridiculed under the scrutinizing eyes of the crowed under the circus tent. Maybe this time things will go better than at the circus, or… at least he hoped.

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!~" Steff sang along cheerfully to the man onstage, bouncing about like a jackrabbit, though not nearly as much as she had done to Jingle Bells.

At once, however, she stopped, pointing excitedly into the crowd. "Oh wow!! Look, Odin, at that boy!! Is he the performer for later?! He's AMAZING!"

Squealing, she grabbed Odin's hand and dragged her over to the shy felid... whilst at the back of the hall, Gloria was busy dragging her own date outside.

"If I hear one more ******** Christmas song I'm going to strangle something, and that something will probably be you."

"For the sake of my own Adam's apple, I hear ya loud and clear. But what about Steff's mysterious hunk?"

"She can wait until they put on the REAL music!"

Well, that was ONE hunter down... for now.

"Hi!" Steff said breathlessly, giving Yugai a bright smile and a small wave. "Are you the circus act?! You're fantastic! Squee, and I LOVE your outfit!"

Odin let Steff drag her through the crowd towards the performer she pointed to previously. She peeked out from behind a panting Steff, nodding curtly at Yugai, a hand steadying her hat.

"Hey," she said with a small smile.

Yugai was deep in his thoughts when all of a sudden a young blond girl and her companion bounded up to him. He was surprised by them, but he smiled back none the less and greeted them warmly. He bowed to them, his hat staying firmly on his head before he righted himself. This blond girl complimented him about his circus act. Had she seen him before on stage?

”Oh, why, thank you so much. I’m just warming up for the act later tonight. I hope you’ll enjoy it.” Yugai smiled fondly as he nodded to Odin, noting how shy she was. He himself was shy, but he didn’t want to show it. Extending his hand out to the other carefully, his finger tips poking out from the fabric of his long sleeves, he hoped to shake the young woman’s hand. He could tell the other was female, he was a neko after all, and could tell the masculine scents from feminine scents.

"You'll be SO awesome!" Steff enthused, "How long have you been doing this stuff for?"

"Oh, uhh," she blinked at his gesture. Odin stepped out a bit from behind Steff taking Yugai's hand gently in hers and making a light handshake.

When her eyes met the neko's she could feel that he already knew about her so she let go of her qualms about putting up appearances. "Nice to meet you. My name's Odin. Yeah, we're looking forward to it." She smiled back at him warmly.

”I’m glad you’re excited about my show. I’ve been doing this for a few years now… I’m not sure how long exactly though, but it’s been for quite a while.” Smiling, he mingled with the two young women and entertained their questions. He had noticed a large tub rolling around and had thought best to avoid it, lest he get wet or hounded by the prince. The little consort, the strange angel fish that was with him, seemed very shy. Oh well, he just didn’t want to get wet. Maybe they had some nice fish or sushi on the buffet. He didn’t want to eat a whole lot and upset his stomach during the act, so something small, sushi preferably, would be nice to have on his stomach.

"Well, you seem incredibly talented!" Stephanie gasped, very easily impressed by the tiny snippet of acrobatics she'd seen. "I can't wait! Do you have any special equipment brought in for tonight?"
PostPosted: Thu Oct 14, 2010 10:06 am

Odin watched back and forth as the two talked. She wasn't really much for conversation so she decided to listen for a bit as they did. As her eyes rolled over the crowd she thought she saw a familiar mop of dark brown hair bobbing in the distance. The sea of people parted a bit and revealed the face she was dreading to see.

Really, that b*****d couldn't even bother to comb his hair for tonight. Odin couldn't understand why she cared in the first place. She let out a small sigh, ducked her head a bit as the crowd swallowed him up again and turned back to Steff and Yugai.

"So what do you think you're going to get at the buffet Zain?" Alexi asked as she pushed the bathtub containing Zain and Shinichi toward the table. She didn't realize how she could easily push the tub when it contained about seven times her own weight. Still, the job would have been easier had she had Total nearby. Sure, he probably wouldn't have been able to do much, but at least it would've helped.

"WELL, seeing as Jeeves has not returned with my salmon, the incompetent layabout, I suppose I shall choose the next best thing."

Which apparentky, in Zain's world, translates to several pounds of prawn cocktail, some experimental duck pancakes mushed into garlic bread and a veritable mountain of coleslaw.

"Sounds like you're going to be eating a lot!" Alexi laughed. "As for me, I think I'm going to hit up the dessert bar."

You know how they say that someone has a sweet tooth? ...Yeah, Alexi had like, 10 of those. At least.
