The soldier shrugged, putting aside his dagger. Now that he had finished tearing her dress into bandage-sized strips, he didn't need it, and it would seem threatening. "Okay, I guess I can understand that. But I don't mean to hurt you or your kids. I'm just gonna help." He turned slightly, remembering the other kid, who he guessed was this woman's child. Bakura was closer to the soldier than to Rei, but still unconscious. The soldier slid closer to Bakura, tilting his head up so that he could wind the strips of cloth around the right side of his face.

The soldier sighed. He knew he would have to get these people out of the desert; but how? He lived in the palace. If the priest Akhenaden knew that there were still survivors out there somewhere, no place would be safe. It would be merciful to just kill them here. He had picked his dagger up again and was about to slit the child's throat when he hesitated. It was a moment of weakness, and he knew he couldn't overcome it. Bakura opened his eyes slowly-- only to find that he could only see out of one of them. It was covered with cloth, along with most of the right side of his face. He found a soldier hovering over him, a blade to his neck. He was too weak to scream, he found, much less fight back. The soldier began to speak and Bakura struggled to listen to him. The kid woke up. Good. It would be easier to make a decision if he had a little input. He quickly set his dagger to the side. "There isn't much of a choice I can give you, kid. I would've asked your mother, but I only thought of it now. I can either kill you here and now, leave you in the desert, or take you back to the palace. Nobody will have to know who you are. You'd have to work, though." The boy might not have understood, or even heard. The soldier propped him into a sitting position, and searched for his water skin to give him another drink.

Bakura let out a cry and squirmed, trying to get out of the soldier's grasp. The soldier held onto the boy by his waist and edged over to Rei, helping her sit up. He offered her the water skin. "Now, if you don't scoot away again, I'd like to wrap up your back. And your shoulder. I promise I won't hurt you." Bakura clung to the soldier, shaking, his eyes brimming over with tears.

"H-he's got a knife..." Bakura muttered back to Rei, trembling violently. Tears streamed down his cheek. "He had it to my throat when I woke up. I don't like him. Make him go away." The soldier chose to ignore what he couldn't hear. He cleared his throat, looking the woman in the eye. "You don't have many choices, as I've already said to your boy there. Akhenaden said he didn't want any survivors. There aren't many places you could go to if he thinks you're still alive out there. So, I can either kill you all now so you don't have to suffer any; I could leave you in the desert, where you'll clearly die of thirst; or I can see if I can bring you to the palace. That's where I live. You could become a servant and wait until Akhenaden and the others forget about this."

Rei's eyes narrowed slightly. Like hell they where going to the palace "just leave us...with the horse... we'll be fine..." The horse that they had rode on reached down and gently nudged her cheak. It seemed to like her. most animals did.

"See, I can't do that. There's a chance that you may get out of the desert okay, and not only will you be killed, but I will too." The soldier frowned. "Woman, I don't care if you get left out here to die. But I can't stand the thought of your children dying because of your stupidity. I can leave you with the horse and take the other three-- would that be okay?"

Rei hand gently reached up patting the soliders cheak "Your such acarring man.." she then struck him in the neck watching him as he fell, out cold. "We have to go now." She picked bakura up and set him on the horse. Forcing herself up she held onto her children and got up on the horse holding bakura to her "Hang on" she said as the horse rode off.

Bakura squeezed his eyes shut. He was starting to have doubts about Rei, even if she was really all that he had left. He trusted her, though he wasn't sure why, which was what disturbed him. He shouldn't like her. She showed up randomly and was unnaturally nice, and then the next day his entire village was killed. Remembering the slaughter he burst into tears again, wrapping his arms around his middle.

Rei reached down and gently kissed his head. She felt bad for him. After riding for a while they came along the house near the oaisis. Rei was very thankful it was there. Hoping off the horse she pulled bakura down and held him in her arms with her children as she walked in. It seems sombody had abandon the house. She stumbled a bit before kneeling down in a pile of pillows. Shge colapsed on her side taking deep painful breaths.

Bakura stayed outside the house, trying to get a hold of himself. He went over to the horse to tie it up, just to make sure it didn't run off, and saw that there was a knife in the saddle. He drew the blade out and looked at it curiously, then slipped it into his sleeve. He went into the house after that, going over to Rei. "You're hurt. Do you want me to get you some water?" He asked in a soft, emotionless voice.

"I'Ill be fine..." she said. She forsed herself to sit up "Are you ok?" She was more worried about him then herself.
