Vaakine, you do realize that if you have a magnetic field strong enough to contain it you do not need the plasma that is contained as the field is strong enough to do the damage. If you want I could link you to an article about plasma weapons.
Alchemy, I know, but when I brought it up in conversation yetserday people thought I was talking about the larger ones that are more like a weight on the end of a staff.
Snow, read something wrong, this is what I get for having multipul windows open.
Or maybe not, either way, don't use a gunblade ever. If you want I can explain why.

xXx_AlchemY_xXx No tsuba? Be glad she's using a blunt weapon other wise I could see an experianced roleplayer severing your fingers. Functionality and design is not something you should give up, even in a non-realalistic setting, Snow. --Just a suggestion. No tsuba. Since its her experimentation on a warhammer, I decided to not have a tsuba for the fight. I usually prefer having no tsubas, because it helps add awareness to the user. With a tsuba, yes, I can help guard myself against most forms of attacks -- but without one, I have to be more attentive and aware of the opponent's attacks as well as being precise in my aims and defense. Besides -- that's one reason why I have two katanas instead of the usual lone one.

Yes Vaakine, the entire weapon sounds more like...a railgun.
A gunblade has a practical function, but only if you're at some risk of running out of ammo very quickly. Like a musket and a bayonet. If I remember correctly a gunblade fires some sort of whacked out laser beam.

For one there is the issue of recoil, a sword handle is not the best way to handle recoil so you have less velocity of the bullet so you can actually aim the weapon, that means less stopping power. And then there's holding the gunblade while firing, you can't hold it like a rifle because of the blades edge. A musket on the other hand is more like a polearm.

The sword/gun scene, but then a gunblade doesn't replace a good gun, nor does it make a good blade because you have the added mass for the firing mechanism, magazine and so forth. This is in addition to the problems I stated above with it.

While it is just a scene from a movie it is also fact. A gun gives range that a sword can not, along with a lethality greater then that of a sword and less effort is needed. It is a rare event when someone with a sword or any blade for that matter will beat someone with a gun.
