OMG YAY CLARINETS!! I've been playing clarinet for like 2 1/2 years. It's okay. Ugh, playing high notes sucks. Why do people even write them into our music? It sounds bad and it's hard!

It sounds bad and it's hard!i've been playing clarinet for four years, and i love high notes. i can play them better than lower notes. it'll get easier when you progress, trust me. i used to hate them too. i could never remember the fingerings, it was really hard, and i hated it, but now i prefer the high notes. have you started playing sixteenth notes yet?

It sounds bad and it's hard! wow...you sound JUST like a friend of mine...he switched to bass clarinet [well now he plays contra] because of the high notes. When I was practicing poulenc's clarinet sonata...the third movement back in november, he made this face gonk gonk sad talk2hand cry ...I can't play above the register around him, he hates it when I do.
But I like high notes and low notes equally, you can sound horrible on either one if you don't do long tones...and right embouchure...many of the clarinetists at my school I want to bash in the heads with my clarinet, its awful. I can consistantly play the extremely high notes well, great even sometimes, but it depends on my reed and embouchure and how lazy or energetic i am...
does anyone have 'sing sing sing' for clarinet, I just heard a recording of the famous Eddie Daniels playing it on clarinet, I just loved it! It was so energetic and fierce! I wanna play it for my Oedipus talk time project in my english class this week....or next week, because they want me to sweatdrop . But I couldn't find it so I just picked Gershwin's I got Rhythm, trying to improvise on it a bit....i should've gotten benny goodman stuff :/
but if you guys have it I'd be ecstatic!

x-laurencha-x kilala0461 Hello everyone it's me once again I'm in my sophmore year and I'm in the JV and JAZZ bad right now I'm so happy playing the clarinet. Though I've been wondering. Have any of you had a natural handicap that made it hard to play the clarinet? everyone knows the normal hand position but physicaly my pinkeys are literally 1/2 and inch shorter then they should be so it's almost impossible to have the right hand position and do all the fingerings. He's been really cracking down on us and he knows I have midget pinkeys but he's getting mad cause I can't keep the right hand position. I usually keep my pinkeys on the lower b key and side c key. So now I'm wondering if any of you have any helpfull tips for this cause I've been practicing with the right hand positions for awhile but I get wrong note bad quality and lots of squeeks because I can't fully cover the holes with my fingers. Please Help T.T i have a friend who still has a lot of trouble reaching the keys the best advice i can give is to know your alternate fingerings really well good luck!! or you could switch to flute!! sorry, my friend has short fingers and plays flute. she tried to play my clarinet one time and she couldnt reach all the keys. and to kepakemapa: just keep practicing youll get better. if you practice over the weekends and during school breaks youll be able to play so much better. and are you sure its you. my friend was 3 clarinet 2 chair last year. she got a new clarinet and now she is 1 clarinet 2 chair. im sure it wasnt just the clarinet but it certainly helped alot. my middle school band director said to record your self playing because then have a good idea of what you need to fix.

<< Has been playing Clarinet for SIX years. I've played Alto Clarinet and Bass clarinet for ONE week, wasn't too fond of them. And honestly, high notes are the best part of the clarinet, my friend and I (who are constantly battling to see who's better) get up to ridiculously high octaves when playing. We're known for taking the G in four octaves, neither of us have been able to get higher than that g, though. But yeah, I play in my school's Wind Ensemble (Honors Band in our school) and Marching Band. When I'm not playing the Clarinet though, you'll see me playing Oboe or the Bells, both of which I eventually sight-transpose for Clarinet, because I like to keep it to my roots. ;]
Oh, also, in my Middle School Jazz Band, I played the Clarinet, keys, and I also did vocals! :]

At beaniegurl_92: I don't wanna play the flute T.T I've tried playing flute I've also thought of playing trumpet but no preoblem is.....Flute: I can't ever seen to find the right eumbeschure (yes I butchered it sorry T.T) Trumpet: I can never remember the fingerings.
I want to switch to the e flat clarinet (e'fer for short) But one the school only has one and it's already takin' by someone else and two my band directer wouldn't let me play it unless I was the top clarinet overall. which really sucks so Ima prolly save up my money and buy one (ha that'll take forever) that way I can play it and he couldn't complain. I want to switch to it because it's smaller with closer keys but it's still a spitting image of my original b flat clarinet so it wouldn't be hard to learn any new fingerings. It would help cause my pinkeys could reach the keys without having to strech a great distance. I'm a really good player with good tone quality but I keep making 5th chair out of 7 because I can't reach the low a flat key and because of that I can't have the right hand position with out having my elbow out like a wing either that or having to keep my fingers in the arches and squeking or missing the note cause the keys aren't pushed down all the way.
