Daren had spent the week avoiding Iroh's calls. he was insisting that Daren return to the force and he was refusing, insisting that he was retired. he was about to turn his phone off when he received Andy's call. it was so unusual, he answered. the words made his blood run cold, he had wondered why he hadn't heard from Tim. "I'm on my way." he was grabbing his coat and keys as he hung up. it didn't take long to get to Andy's place. he knocked and was let in, going back to Tim's room without a word. he opened the door and saw the man on the floor, surrounded by empty bottles. nothing needed to be said, Daren just took the glass from Tim's hand and placed it aside before picking him up and carrying him out. "thanks for calling me, Andy. i'm taking him to my place for now." he nodded and carried Tim out to where he had parked. "want to tell me why you are killing yourself?"

Andy nodded, hanging up and waiting for the officer, pacing and checking on Tim again who was placing yet another bottle in the nearly filled trash bag. It took less than ten minutes, Andy opening the door and showing him where Tim's room was. Tim was finishing what was in his cup when Darren walked in, frowning and glaring at the man. "Get out." But Darren grew closer, the red-head frowning and trying to stand. it didn't work, tripping on one of the bottled yet to be drunk where he was caught. "No!" his cup was taken away and be was lifted, the man starting to cry again. "Daren! No!" and gave weak hits as he was carried out. "You're in good hands, Tim!" Andy called, closing the door behind them. Tim stayed silent, looking away and curled up on himself. Darren was the cause of all of his problems, why should he make them worse?

Daren dumped Tim into the passenger seat of his car and buckled him in before getting in the driver's side. "i think i can guess, at least i can fill in some of the blanks. i can understand you not wanting to talk to someone like me, but at least let me save you from yourself before you hate me fully." he pulled out of the parking lot and started for his home. "does Jason know about your drinking?"

Timothy couldn't hate him fully, that was the hard part. He could never hate the man. He was just, so, ********, angry, with himself. The only person he could direct it to was Daren for being the cause of his feelings which pushed him and Jason apart. "No." he mumbled. And why should he? They broke up? Tim didn't want to cause that many any more pain so it was best to avoid him. of course he'd been avoiding everyone. Andy was inevitable, they were roommates.

Daren was quiet until he pulled into his own parking lot. he turned off the car and looked away, "you two-" it was a gut feeling, but he had learned to trust his gut a long time ago, "you broke up, didn't you? and it was my fault. sorry probably won't cover it and my coming here won't help either, will it?" he finally looked at Tim, "but neither will drinking every day. i saw the number of bottles in there and for you to be this sober after drinking that much?" he shook his head, "it was a good thing Andy called me. you need help, tim. you can't keep doing this or you will die."

"Shut up, Daren." Tim warned as the man started to speak, but he continued, fingers tightening into his shirt as he curled on himself some more. "If sorry could fix it we'd both have happier lives." Andrew would have never beaten him and Darren wouldn't have been either, or his mother. "It's not a lot of bottles." he tried to defend, "You should've let Andrew kill me in that basement."

Daren was quiet for a long time before he finally whispered, "maybe we both should have died in that basement." he shook his head and got out of the car, "but we didn't and now we have to make do with the lives that we have." he got out of the car and opened the door for tim, "come on. you need a shower and something to eat. in that order, we can discuss who should or shouldn't have died later." this was his fault too. all of this, Tim's pain and misery, all of it rested on his shoulders and he felt strangled by the weight of it all. he waited for Tim to get out before shutting the door and locking the car. he had to do what he could to help pull Tim through this, one step at a time.

Tim gave a bitter smile accompanied by a chuckle, looking out the window at the familiar parking lot. He didn't want to be here. Seeing Darren made his smile disappear and his stubbornness show. He didn't move from his seat, looking forward. "I want to go back to Andy's. I don't need anything from you." and sat there, and sat, and sat. Ten minutes passed before he decided this was futile, getting out of the car with little difficulty and following to the elevator. "I hate you." No he didn't, he couldn't, he hated himself. Just saying those three words made his brow furrow in pain, breathing through his nose to try and stay calm before he lashed out. He could feel it coming, tightening his chest like when he was with the therapist. When he threw her mug at her. "I hate you." he repeated, though his voice wavered, now trying to convince himself. But it was coming, jaw clenching, fingers curling into fists. He couldn't be locked in that elevator with Daren. He turned and began walking up the stairs instead, hoping to cool off a bit.

Daren watched Tim walk up the stairs, but he figured it would be best to give him space. he needed to find something before Tim got to the apartment as well. he could tell Tim needed to lash out and if he was the one to take the brunt of it, so be it. he deserved that much at least. he took the elevator up and found what he had been looking for easily enough. he met Tim at the door and handed over the riding crop, "here." he shut the door behind Tim, "use this. was going to give it to Anna as a gag gift, but-" he just hadn't found the right chance. "go ahead," he stepped into the living room and took off his shirt to prevent damage to it, "you hate me and i deserve it. hit me, Tim."

Tim stopped on the stairs to sit and breathe, hitting his forehead gently to try and turn away the anger and rage building up inside. It worked somewhat, the red-head able to continue his trek to Daren's door not surprised to see him, but what he was holding made that calm burn up with fury once more. He took it, staring at the thing in shock and confusion. Daren wanted to be hurt with this? A riding crop? A simple tool? A crop? He looked up at the shirtless man, rage filling him as he swung it against the man's face without warning. The wound wasn't enough, dropping the flimsy leather and swing his fist at the man. he knew how to swing, he'd seen Andrew do it countless times. He knew the stance, how hard, how fast, and he hit so hard Tim was afraid he'd break his own knuckles. "That's a flimsy piece of leather!" he shouted, "How can that properly hurt you!" and hit him again, "When you ******** like it!" another hit. "What is wrong with you?! You have done s**t! You have done nothing wrong!" Tim needed something sharp, trying his best to quell that urge as he continued to bruise his own knuckles against the man. He wanted to see Daren on the floor in pain, fists now aimed or his sides. <******** hit me back!' he shouted, knuckles throbbing in pain, "Don't just ******** take it!"

Pain flared across his cheek as he felt the leather connect, snapping his head to the side a little. he had been expecting that, it was ok. what he hadn't been expecting was the fist that followed. the blow caught him a bit off guard and hit his square in the nose. he could feel the blood instantly starting to flow, but Tim wasn't done. he was shocked at how hard the man could hit, but then he remembered he'd been training and taking self defense. what had once been starved skinny was now lean muscle. Daren was bent over slightly when Tim started going for his sides. he grunted as air left his lungs, but Tim didn't let up. "No," he said softly as Tim demanded he hit back. he would never hurt Tim, he had promised and he planned to keep at least one damned promise to the man. He fell to a knee, one punch to the stomach winding him enough to knock him down. he didn't do anything to defend himself, just took it as Tim continued to beat him. This was right, he deserved this and if anyone deserved to beat him it was Tim.

"HIT ME!" Tim screamed, swinging his leg onto the down man's side. "Out of everything I've ever told you!" Another kick, "you had to listen to that! Out of all things!" he grabbed Daren by his hair, looking down at him before falling to his knees, anger starting to melt into sadness and depression, another weak punch being delivered with his free hand. "Why did you listen to me? Daren just hit me." and was holding the man's face, forehead pressed against his as he cried. "I hate you so much why do you do this to me? Daren," he sobbed softly, hands moving down as he wrapped his arms around the man's neck, hugging and crying. He loved this man too much and it hurt.

Daren wrapped his arms around Tim and pulled him in for a hug, letting the man cry. he took a mental assessment of himself, silently going over the damage. Bloody nose, possibly black eye, split lip, various bruises. he moved down to is ribs, bruised, but not broken, his stomach was going to be sore for a while from the kicks, but it was nothing he couldn't deal with. "it's alright," he said softly, his hand stroking Tim's hair, "go ahead and hate me, i know i'm a horrible person, i deserve it. sorry, Tim. sorry you have to go through this because of me."

"But that's the problem!" he screamed, hitting Darren with his fists as he pulled away, looking at the man. "that's the ******** problem! That's the ******** problem." and leaned against the man once more, body growing tired with the anger and the fury. "I could never hate you. I can never ******** hate you and that's the problem." and weakly hit the man once more, giving shuddered breaths as he calmed down, staring at his lap. He loved him, he loved him and he was still too afraid to say it. But that was because Darren didn't love him back.

Daren smiled a little, "sorry, i'm sorry Tim." he let the other keep hitting him, waiting for him to calm back down. when he was sure Tim was done, he picked the man up and carried him to the couch and laying him down. "let me get you some water," he washed the blood off his face in the kitchen and dabbed at the blood on his shirt, knowing it was stained beyond repair. he got Tim a glass of water and walked back, holding it out, "here. how is your head? need something for it?"
