Bakura trembled violently, burying his face in her neck. He sobbed, but it was muffled. "Why?" He managed to ask, his voice almost lost to the sound of the villagers and soldiers. "Why are they doing this?"

[Whatever.]
"Th-they killed Mama..." Bakura said, his voice choked as he slowly lifted his head. His eyes widened when he thought of something. "Father. Did they...? He's still out there! He has to be!" He squirmed out of Rei's grip, as he had done once before, and bolted away. The sounds had died down, which meant there were less villagers still around. That meant that not only was there a smaller chance of Bakura's father being alive, but a bigger chance that Bakura would be seen.

"Father!" Bakura shouted, tears blurring his vision. For then, he didn't care about living or dying. He just wanted to see his father. He stood completely still, cupping his hands around his mouth and shouting, looking around. "Hey!" Two soldiers noticed Bakura instantly. They laughed, nudging each other in the ribs, and went over to the boy. "Hey, kid, you look lost. You looking for your daddy? We can help you find him." One said, sneering. The other one rolled his eyes, and grabbed Bakura by his hair.
"Stop it. You shouldn't toy. Just get it over with." He snapped, lifting Bakura up a few inches from the ground. "Come on." His partner didn't seem to want to do that, and instead pulled out his dagger. He slashed at Bakura's face, laughing. Blood streamed down Bakura's right cheek and he screamed, thrashing and trying to be let go of, as the soldier made two other slashes. "Hey! If you won't do it right, just give the knife to me!"

The other soilder, the one who haddent wanted to play around took out his sword slashing her down her back. She couldent up a bit of blood before turning and kicking him in the balls. She then ran with bakura in her arms as fast as she could.

Bakura had gone limp in Rei's hands-- for now, the stress of the situation had gotten the better of him. his hands were like little claws that let him cling to her, and his eyes were open, but otherwise he could have been unconscious. They could hear the two soldiers shouting, telling their comrades to get 'those two' before they could get away.

Rei's back was bleeding like a sive making an easy trail for them to follow. She had to find a faster way...There! She spotted a horse. She pulled herself and bakura up on it riding away as fast as she could.

"Akhenaden!" A magician cried out, turning when he heard a bit of an uproar from the soldiers. He had thought they had finished with the villagers, but it seemed not. "Somebody stole your horse! It's some villagers!"
"What?!" Akhenaden whipped around, his eyes narrowing. "We can't let them get away! You know what the pharaoh would do to us!"
"But... sire..." Another magician said, watching the horse and riders go. "This village is far away from any other village. The sun is up; they don't have a chance in the desert. We could set up soldiers to watch out later, but now we need to remember our goal! The seven treasures!"
"Hmm..." Akhenaden stroked his beard thoughtfully. "Very well. Yes, we must finish this. Just send another soldier on your horse."

Rei rode and rode. The sun was getting hot and rei was getting lightheaded. The horse was covered in her own blood. She soon slid off the horse with bakura in her arms and passed out in the sand.

Bakura stirred, and tried to wipe the dried blood from his face. "Rei?" He was shaking terribly; he touched her face lightly. He began to cry, his hands trembling. He lay down in the sand next to Rei, leaning his head back. "I-I..." He was too weak to speak, and just blacked out.

Unluckily, the soldiers had managed to send out a man quickly. He had followed the two, though not closely, but close enough so that he came across them in an hour or so after they had both fainted. He didn't understand why he even had to come out after them; it was just a woman and a child. Getting off his horse, he checked on them. Still alive, but they wouldn't be for long in this heat and with these wounds.
The soldier looked away. He would be killed if these two weren't. But now, away from the others, he could feel himself softening. He must have killed over a dozen other women and children in the village, but he couldn't bring himself to finish these two off. And he knew if he left them, they'd die as well. What was he to do?
Sighing, he crouched down on the ground. Pulling off the waterskin he had brought, he attended to the woman first, tilting her head up and pouring some into her mouth. He gave some to the kid next, and then rolled the woman onto her side so he could see where the blood was coming from. He pulled out his dagger and neatly sliced down the back of her dress, peeling it off of her. There was a deep gash on her back, and another wound on her shoulder. He sat down and got to work tearing her former dress into shreds for bandages.

The soldier jumped. He hadn't even known there had been babies. He placed a hand on hte woman's shoulder, seeing that she was waking up. "Don't move. You're already hurt enough."
