Nuclearwinter OrionStark maybe this has been asked before but.... does the imperial guard take only men? they would be eliminating half of there potential candidates if they maintained a sexist policy like that. not that the imperium is known for enlightened thinking...but they do have a sense of practicality to them and when it comes to firing a gun or operating a tank it doesn't really matter what gender they are. depends on where they come from. The valhallans use women all the time (since they're based on the Russian army of WWII) and I belive the catachans will use any woman who can prove her worth (one of the catachan models is woman wielding a grenade launcher) there's a few other examples out there but I don't remember them all. The intresting thing about the Imperium is that there are no unified social rules established for all it's citizans. Every planet has it's own society and unique way of living. so basically the Guard itself does not discriminate but the planet recruiters might?.... ok

The imperium works much like (and I believe is based on) the Roman empire. each city (or planet in this case) is allowed to maintain it's culture to an extent, just so long as they worship the emperor. the space marines on the other hand do NOT seem to take women withen their ranks, more likely due to the nature of their iniation rather than sexism. A woman probally can't survive the operation that turns a human into a marine.

Nuclearwinter Andreis Question. I saw int he imperial guard codex the entry for a infantry platoon and it looks like this. Infantry Platoon 2-5 Infantry Squads...... 60 pts + Weapons + Upgrades Now my friend says that means that the entire platoon costs 60 points. That makes NO sense to me and it is too late to call Direct services, so I figured an inquiry here wouldnt help. How the hell does it work?? you need to have in a platoon: 1 Command section with a junior officer as it's leader (look at the HQ section, it's just like a regualar command squad but for a platoon instead of the whole army) 2-5 infantry squads that cost 60 points EACHthe cheapest a platoon can be is 180 points- a junior officer and 4 bodyguards for the command section and 2 squads of 10 men. tell you friend he's wrong, acording to his logic a single guardsman is only one point!! if i could get 1500 guardsmen in a single game then i'd win everytime. Yes that was my exact logic!! Its just like in other armies where a unit of 5-10 elite choice cost not 17 points for the squad, but 17 points per model. This is ammusing. I am assuming you are right and if so then NO WONDER He has never lost a game.

Sorry to be so insulting, but your friend is either very dull or a liar. I hope it's the latter, for his sake.

Someone apparently told him that. Rather. Multiple people did. I don't account anything against him now because I called GW canada and affirmed it. He now has put a mark on their (the people who told him) heads. xD
Anyhow. Yea. Well he is not dull, but he somehow just thought it was this really cool thing about the IG. Convinced by long term players. gonk
Now they are just dull.
He is still moderately new.
Side note: He could not afford that many models. He didnt have platoons that huge. I found this out after the fact.

Since the practice of idividual threads seems all but forgotten here:* Quote: After finishing with my Black Templars army, I though I'd rather like to collect an IG Armoured Company. I was musing upon what theme said Armoured company should take, and found myself at something at a loss for ideas. If anyone has any sensible ideas and suggestions for my armies 'theme' (and not just 'an artillery company') - i would be very grateful. I already have one (assembled but unpainted) LR Vanquisher, which I bought on a whim, and money to buy at least two tanks. * = Although I suppose it does make some sense. It does keep down hoardes of the same thread I suppose....!

Anyways, are there any regiments you already like? If so you could make an Armoured Company version of that regiment.
If not, whats youre favorite terrain, fluff themes and so on. That should form a good base to choose your armies style.
