i don't know...when i think of any asian music, the only "western" type of music that even comes close is stuff that's based on pentatonic scales..that's just my opinion, though. i think bayou breakdown sounds exactly like what the title says it is...
i don't remember the saxes every really having their own melody. i know pretty much everyone plays the beginning melody, but even then, the melody changes pretty much..
the song is really just an arrangement of two irish folk type songs that percy grainger put together as a birthday gift for his mother. i will forever love this song smile no matter what.

Hmm. I don't really get the title. I know what a bayou is, just I don't know what the music is like there. Near the end, there is a saxophone/flute solo, and the saxophone solo is something they play before, and I don't think I heard any other instrument play it. Ya, its good. I just like the feel of bayou breakdown. Like..... I can't explain it. Oh that's cool.

Even when you know that you have it down, play it for someone. They'll most likely have some kind of suggestion. But yeah... I play the solos in that piece, and they're fairly easy, depending on the tempo. The one thing that my teacher said to me, though, was to play mezzo-piano when the music asked for it, not mezzo-forte. That solo is about halfway through the song, but if you're going to play it, be careful not to play it loud. And, as with all of the rest of this song, ARTICULATE CORRECTLY. Accents, tonguing, and style are everything with this song.

Woah. It turns out I made the senior Jazz band instead. biggrin
So.. the BD said that she'd change band. She's going to mix together the grade 9 band with the grade 10 band, and keep the 11s and 12s together. And one person asked, "How many altos will there be then? There's only 2 grade 12s and 1 grade 11." So the BD said. "There will be 4, but its a surprise who the grade 10 is." It turns out that she chose me! biggrin But apparently someone already organized their job, so they can't go with the junior band time slots. So... now I have to be in junior band. AGAIN! I thought I was finally done with it last year. crying

Woah! I thought I posted something! D= Either I closed it on accident, or was just hallucinating...both are equally possible, given that I'm really sick. So, for that reason, I don't have to much to say, either...I've just been saying the same things over and over to people I talk to.
But back on topic! SO, HOW BOUT THEM SAXOPHONES, EH? PRETTY GOOD?

Something like that happened to me for the past 2 years, but I've coped. You can too, just don't let your ego get the better of you (like some guys I know. They were in a lower band than they should have been, and they thought that they were the best, when in reality, they weren't.) But even though you're in a lower band doesn't make you a better or worse player; it just challenges you less. mrgreen

Although, there are some points where I'm the only one playing. My BD told me that all the grade nines were staring at me when they all got lost. Well at least senior Jazz band is enough of a challenge. An none of my friends would have been in senior band either, but still, I was really excited when she told me I was the best person for the spot. And when people couldn't do Junior band because of schedules and such, I got moved to junior, and them to senior, I was disappointed, but hey, what can you do? Ah well. I don't really know the older people that well anyway.

Hahaha!!! I finally have achieved my high school band goal/bet! The bet was that, by my senior year, I would have more saxophone supplies than my BD, who has an entire drawer full of them. I now have more mouthpieces, more reeds, and more ligatures than my BD! Yes! (But, she still has more saxes than me. lol. I don't have 22. mrgreen )
