I am college Freshmen and I am in my second semster and I have been playing the Clarinet for about nine years and I am in our college marching band, The Spirt of the Southland (and we rock!), but I hope to tryout for either Wind symphony or Symphonic Band for the spring of next year, I forgot when tryouts were sweatdrop .

MiyokoxClarinetti Satzuni Kay5295 Satzuni vampiress911 it doesn't matter what tpe of ligature you have. just try a new reed or tighten your embouchure. btw, how long have you been playin, and who uses cloth ligatures? Actually, Ligature means a lot when it comes to tone. A 20 dollar Luyben is a lot better than the metal ligatures because the Luyben secures the reed in a different way then the normal ones do. That makes the reed vibrate better for better tone, and easier sound. Ligature means a lot. thank you. :] i'm getting moved up to symphonic band next year, and my band director says i'm talented enough to be in one of the higher chairs if i can improve. so i really want to sound good and improve. i'm currently on two waiting lists for lessons. Well if you're in it for tone, then I suggest the black (Or clear) Luyben ligatures... They're like 12-20 bucks (really cheap compared to the metal ones) and they're really good... PLUS, I'd also suggest some good Vandoren reeds (Their best make is the 2 and a halves. If you're three, it's not very different. If you're two, you just need to tighten up your embouchure a little bit). You can try sanding them, but all that really does is adjust you to a size in between two. It'll only help you if you can't get a size up, or half-size down to work. I know Vandoren reeds are expensive (REALLY expensive) but they're totally worth it. They're a French brand, and they also make a REALLY good B45 mouthpiece. Now don't go and buy a B45 (Which is about 100 bucks) unless you have the professional model to go with it. Professional Mouthpiece needs a professional clarinet. eek eek 100?????? here in RDG woodwinds are from $70-$80...and if you go there you have the option to play them....if not you can have a proffessional musician pick one out for you....wow...100!!!!! D:. The only downer is that this store is in L.A and I live 45 minutes away from it crying crying crying .
Konfanatic-don't say that!!! just keep on practicing biggrin heart Hey, you can find mouthpieces that are over $200, but if you look online you can find deals on mouthpieces and Vandoren have the best reeds, but they go for at least 2.50 each and ,I play on a 3 1/2 and I love it, and the mouthpieces also from Vandoren are the best. I would try getting a B15 for concert (or that what I think it is called sweatdrop ) and a B45 for marching band because different mouthpieces are good for different performances this is what my Clarinet Professor explained to me. Nothing beats practicing!

beaniegurl_92 MiyokoxClarinetti beaniegurl_92 music_man14 i feel like such an amauter im a 7th grader and i have been playing trumpet for 3 years and i just picked up clarinet. crying oh.. it's easy when you first start. it gets a little bit harder as you go higher but then once youre used to it it is so easy. i love clarinet i think it sounds so pretty (well... depending on what you song you are playing) the good thing for you is the notes are the same! no name changes. biggrin the clarinet is such a lovely instrument <3 the styles you can express with it are so whimsical, rofl i'm crazy XD
o_o wait what do you mean by no name changes?the notes. like flutes know the notes as something other than what we clarinets know them as. like for a flute our c is something else. i cant remember what though... oh no... eek i just remember our band director told us he is retiring!!! crying its so sad. our band only has four more months with him. then we have to get used to a new director. gonk I just got a new director this year and it WAS hard to get used to a new band director, esspecially when our old one was like a mother to us, but all you have to do is stick through it. A lot of people in our band quit because it was different.

Meru Lee Hello again all! Meru here once more..
Anyways, thanks to those who had helped me with my last question earlier, I still have yet to get a new mouthpeice, but my birthday comes up with promises to get to the store.
I come to you today with a different problem and question though. Reed warping! Okay, I dry and clean my reeds off fully before I put them into their cases and I do my best to take care of them, but the thin edge of my reeds always warp- sometimes even after only a few days of playing. My school sells med-hard La Viz reeds, which I think are decent and since my parents can't get me to a store alot anyways I end up having to get them. But my question is, is it the reed type I got that makes it warp? Should I change to a different style, and if so what type?(something that is around a 3 1/2 and can produce a good tone if what I'm looking for) Or is there a way to fix this problem? Sry, but i don't kno how to help you.
