"Not long ago," Jake said. "I am a friend of Shane, and used to work for Lady Kisa and Shane's family. I met them through Shane."

"Not at all," Jake replied. "I had gone out for a walk and intended to return." He reached to his shoulder to remove the arrow.

The man sighed and reached into his pocket. He tossed a small bag of powder to Jake. "It will help the wound heal," he said.

"Um, thanks," Jake said, catching the bag. He put some of the powder on his wound and winced as it healed up. He tossed the bag back to the man.

He caught it and then went back to his camp to get the rest of his stuff.

"Oh-kay," Jake said. This was weird. He waited for the man to return, figuring that would be best.

The man walked in and both the girls jumped to their feet.
"Dad, hi," Faith said, not yet seeing Jake. "How did it go?"
"It was well enough," he said. "Hello," he said to Shane and Kisa.
