It was just odd, cause a lot of action movies with much higher ratings won't show limbs being cut off.

that's because they don't get cut off. they get blown off, or the entire body get blow up/put through meat grinder/shot full of holes/dropped of a building/crashing with a car/plane/chopper and blowing up..eaten..

I don't recall many movies wehre I actually saw one body part leave another. They are shown together...then sperated...but never actually coming off. It's a mood thing. You dont want your audience to freacked out. We can handle the missing/blown up parts, as long as there is smoke and debris to cover up the actual deed.

You need to watch more movies. I think Saw was big on that whole thing.

movies where you see limbs removed:
Predator. and a lot of it.
Anaconda
Total Recal
nearly any and all horror movies. this includes:
Nightmare on Elm street Friday the 13th Halloween Pumpkinhead Phantasm
episodes/movies from the Tales from the Crypt series (in fact, the puppet host is known for doign everything from cutting of his hand to self beheading)
Saving Private Ryan.
Starwars episodes 2 and 3. (removal of hands, half arms, and legs)
Gladiator
Blade
I think that's enough for now.

I don't recall limbs being severed in Anaconda...specially since the snake ate people whole...
