Serebrate x_Disease_x What's the difference between the usual Chaos space marines, Plague marines, Noise marines and the Thousand sons? I'm assuming they all have their own special rules maybe? (This may be common knowledge to most, but I'm new to the game.) Congratulations, you've listed the armies from most worn out and boring to least on your very first try. You'll be a Chaos Champion yet.
Also, you forgot Berzerker: the close combat specialist of chaos. Typically you see them in Khornite army, though you can take Noise, Rubric, or Plauge marines in any list if you want to break fluff or just plain power play.
Sadly, I agree. After seeing the sheer number of CSM players at my local game store, I really want to just...drop them and turn my eyes back toward my Guard. Plague Marines are by far overused, but there's a good reason. They're damned beasts for not much cost. T5, Feel No Pain, yeah.
Noise Marines are among my favorites, mostly because I use them differently from a lot of people. Given their heightened Initiative, I use them to surge forward, sometimes in a Rhino, and bog down enemies in CC. Given that CSM usually have more attacks, and given their higher Initiative, they do well against all but CC focused units.

Well, I started a Thousand Son army.
Anyone with any experience playing with/against one? I was thinking thousand sons squads with rhinos (featuring havok launchers), a dreadnought, and I dunno what else. Maybe some summoned daemons.

I'd suggest a Predator, or a second Dreadnought. Given their propensity for going mad, though, the Pred is safer. That and it would give you some anti-tank capability that you're otherwise going to be massively lacking.

I'll just say right now that, having played the Thousand Sons before, and them being my all time favorite Chaos force, they have an advantage in troop numbers, despite the high, high cost. Those 4+ invulnerable saves can really piss off the other player. =D Anyways, Caleidah's suggestion of a Predator is definitely right, but another fun one are the Obliterator's. They're a fan favorite to shoot at, and with a 2+ armor save and a 4+ invulnerable save, not to mention all the anti-tank AND anti-personal fire you want, they get the job done. And they can keep in pace with a unit of Thousand Sons mrgreen

But they can usaully weather the storm long enough to prove their worth. And to be fair, just about anything can keep pace with the Thousand Sons, short of removing your own legs mid-battle it's harder to move slower than them

Okay. I saw the proof point today that a unit of Bikers with the Mark of Nurgle (via an Icon of Nurgle) are absolute badasses. Here's my 2k list that I used today.
HQ- 460---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 175-Daemon Prince of Nurgle Wings, Warptime, Mark of Nurgle, Fearless
175-Daemon Prince of Nurgle Wings, Warptime, Mark of Nurgle, Fearless
110-Summoned Greater Daemon Must be Summoned, CCW, Fearless, Assault on Entry
Troop-255--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
85-5x Chaos Space Marines Bolters, Meltagun, Bolt Pistols, CCW, Frag, Krak
85-5x Chaos Space Marines Bolters, Meltagun, Bolt Pistols, CCW, Frag, Krak
85-5x Chaos Space Marines Bolters, Meltagun, Bolt Pistols, CCW, Frag, Krak
Fast-795-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
265-4x Bikers of Nurgle TL Bolters, 2xMelta/2x Bolt Pistol, CCW, Frag, Krak, Mark of Nurgle, Icon Biker Champion of Nurgle Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon, Frag, Krak
265-4x Bikers of Nurgle TL Bolters, 2xMelta/2x Bolt Pistol, CCW, Frag, Krak, Mark of Nurgle, Icon Biker Champion of Nurgle Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon, Frag, Krak
265-4x Bikers of Nurgle TL Bolters, 2xMelta/2x Bolt Pistol, CCW, Frag, Krak, Mark of Nurgle, Icon Biker Champion of Nurgle Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon, Frag, Krak
Heavy-490--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
170-6x Chaos Havocs 4x Autocannon, 2x Bolter, Bolt Pistol, CCW, Frag, Krak
170-6x Chaos Havocs 4x Autocannon, 2x Bolter, Bolt Pistol, CCW, Frag, Krak
150-Chaos Vindicator Demolisher Cannon, Daemonic Possession, TL Bolter
So, yeah. My opponent? About 2250 of Blood Angels. I kicked their asses with little difficulty. His Jump Pack equipped Death Company got splattered in one turn by a good Demolisher shell. His Furioso dreadnoughts got shredded by Autocannon fire by the end of turn 2. The bikes and Daemon Princes rolled forward on the left flank with my Havocs and CSM holding the center. With that, I was able to wheel him back into the corner while I held two of the objectives. At one point, I thought he was going to be able to push back and regain some ground with his Baal Predators, but I was able to make quick work of them. Once my Summoned Greater Daemon came in, the work just got faster and easier. It was great. Later, he teamed up with a Crimson Fists player and I partnered up with my Daemon player friend. He had been running a full Nurgle force with Epidemius, Ku'gath, three Daemon Princes, and lots of Plaguebearers. By turn two we had filled up the Tally of Nurgle and my Autocannons became terrifying, given that they were ignoring armor saves.

Obliterators are just that for me, bullet sponges, but I sure love them when they do that biggrin
And yeah, I know anything can keep up, but I simply meant stay in the same pace with them. XP -- Yeah, Nurgle bikers = Complete annihilation. I used my small biker unit once with that mark, and damn, did my friends HATE them. biggrin

To really be a cruel b*****d, I've seen people that drop their Oblits in behind lines of Infantry and use those TL Plasma Guns at Rapid Range to just absolutely annihilate the squad.

It's also good for the good old "insta-nuke" against Command Squads. Feel No Pain gets negated by AP2, kiddies.

When do you guys think that CSM will get a new codex?
I've been liking the sound of Blood for the Blood God more and more.

Heh...hahahaha
Sorry. They just got a new codex not but a year and a half back, if not more recently. However, the rumor has been flying around that there might be "Legions" codices that give special rules to the old legions of note. World Eaters, Thousand Sons, Emperor's Children, Death Guard, Iron Warriors, Word Bearers, Alpha Legion, etc.

I do love the needless censoring. xd But that Bloodthirster looks so bad a**, I might feel needy to make a Daemon army just to have him in! ;~;
