Lin nodded at this, "So even for them, it's a lot of work. It's just people in the Eastland are different in their mentality."

Lin wondered if things would ever get better for Atalya. Ever since she was very little she had always heard how things were difficult for the Queen, because of people and how they thought.

"The last time I was at home," Earendil said slowly, "I ... no one said anything at all, but I sort of got the feeling ... Ninako may be preparing to abdicate. She's afraid that the people will think she's running away, but ... it really would be best for the entire nation."

The thought troubled him. To abdicate would probably mean leaving entirely ...

Lin looked thoughtfully up at Earendil, she understood the problem with that, but understood why. Elves were immortal, and while they didn't seem to manage to live long enough to remember what the family had done for them, they certainly seem to live long enough to dwell on what they didn't like about the family.

"Because even after all this time people still won't fully trust her. She's really had to fight tooth and nail to get people to see she's being a good Queen."

For the stability of the nation, it would for the best. Even if Lin hated the thought people didn't understand Atalya at all.

"I just can't help but hope that if she continues, people might someday see her for what she is, rather than what they thought she was," Earendil murmured. "She doesn't deserve to be treated the way she is ... but the people would like a ruler more like my father, someone who is intolerant of people who are different, just like many of them are."

He paused. "Though I must admit, taking you and your family around the city always seems to go much better than I hope. Other than that time with Halaleel."

"Halaleel was a brat," Lin hated to say something like that, but it was true, "As for people in general, I can't say much to that. I find it irritating, but when you see the life styles of other people often, it tends to happen."

She was more referring to Amon Darthir, and what the Eastland was like. These people didn't understand how good they had it. Atalya to Lin was fair, and did her best for what she considered the good of the people.

"I thought the Southland has gotten better about that sort of thing, differences I mean."

"Depends on the difference," Earendil replied, chuckling about Lin's comment on Halaleel. "Different elves, they now accept. Light Elves, Dark Elves, Night Elves, Sky Elves ... no problem. But Elves and humans? No. Elves and anything non-elf? No. Perhaps they will speak with you, converse with you, do business with you, but beyond that ..."

He shook his head. "No. And Ninako is still suffering from the peoples' opinion of my grandmother."

Lin always had to remind herself to be respectful of other people's beliefs, but it was at times like this she had a hard time doing so. It was also a reminder that a relationship with Earendil could be hard on him. Hell with her, she was Gaian dammit, whatever opinions they had about her could go the merry hell for all she cared, but Earendil and his family? That mattered.

"So... talk and business but no friends huh?" it was a rhetorical question really, "Now my question is, will abdicating solve that problem? Your ninako didn't exactly have a say in who her son would marry, and she's not even related to your grandmother by blood. Unlike Tinuviel who is related to your grandmother by blood."

"Abdicating won't solve any problems, except that if Tinuviel takes over the people will have respect for her," Earendil said firmly. "That's it. Unfortunately, Ninako doesn't feel that way. She feels that there would be more benefits. But at the moment she's just thinking about it, it's not for sure that she's going to do it, so there's no point in talking to her about it."

Lin nodded at this, even if she didn't really understand it all. In the end she decided people were strange, because how else could she explain something that seemed so bizarre to her?

"Then there isn't much else to do but see how it all turns out," she murmured thoughtfully.

"Precisely," Earendil nodded as they drew near the portal. "In the meantime, I shall keep a weather eye on things and see how they go, and if I find some time to talk to Ninako, I'll take the opportunity to see what she really thinks about all of this. Keep in mind," he added, "I haven't been told anything for certain, so far it's all guesswork on my part."

Lin nodded at this she could see the area where the portal was hidden up ahead.

"I hope things go well," she murmured.

The family had been through so much, it would be nice if things went well for once.

"Thank you," Earendil murmured softly. Now that they were near the portal, he wondered if it would be safe to put Miyuki down, or if she would try to run off, as she had a few times before.

He looked down at the little girl in his arms. "Well," he smiled, "time for you to go back home."

"Home?" Miyuki blinked not really understanding.

"That's right," Lin nodded, "We're going to go home now."

She wondered if Miyuki really understood the concept of home, especially since they had been traveling since she was a baby. Which wasn't long but when you were a baby and now three it had to be long.

Earendil smiled and hugged Miyuki, then held her out to Lin, deeming it safer than putting her on the ground.

"Best not give her a chance to run away," he winked at Lin.

Lin laughed at that putting Senka on her shoulder and taking Miyuki into her arms, "Come on Miyuki, time to visit your grandparents and family."

"Fam'lee?" Miyuki blinked.

Lin smiled softly before looking up at Earendil, "See you again, in the Southland."
