Swinging a sword about costs stamina. The weapon is not infallible. The edge can be lost. It can be taken from you. You run a risk given how close you are of someone getting past your guard. It can be damaged.
Fists have a number of the above, plus your bones can be shattered, your skin torn apart to the point the pain causes your punches to be half-assed, etc.
There is always a condition or a repercussion.

Think of swords/fists as said limitless ammo and your body/arms as the weapon which utilizes the ammo.
You might not run outta ammo but your weapon will overheat. Hence therein being the limitation.
Which is kinda like Mass Effect Weapons with the ammo being ultra thin slice from an ammo block and the damage done coming from high speed versus size. You can almost never run out but...your weapon will overheat at regular intervals.
