Shinzu continued rapidly looking around he knew it had to be here somewhere! After wasting a little too much time Shinzu finally found the exit hidden neatly behind a pile of boxes. Once he moved some he slowly climbed out and wet through a small tunnel.

Valken had been dropped off in a carriage his father arranged to take him to the hidden mist village. It lived up to its name as the fog rolled through. How much of this was constant and how much was variable he wasnt sure and frankly not too interested in. The carriage took Valken strait to the academy to ensure Valken did not take any 'detours' on the way. He walked up the steps and walked through the door. Hearing the driver satisfied and moving away, Valken collapsed in the hallway. He had so little interest in becoming a ninja. The thought of being a stealthy warrior of the country did not make him shine with pride. He enjoyed his carefree life and pursuits of other arts than these. Of course his bitching was unheard to anyone but him because there would be no swaying his father. So Valken resolved he would patiently complete as much training as required before retiring home.
Figuring he should actually enter a classroom, he picked himself back up and made his way to one of the doors. Peering inside there was nobody. A search of other rooms proved similarly. Rolling his eyes arrogantly, he retorted to no one in particular,
Oh my, I feel I am mastering the way of the shinobi already."
Valken paced around some more wondering what he was waiting for and if they would make it that easy to play hooky his very first day. There was also the chance that getting caught disobeying right off the bat might not end well with his dad so he would stay for a little while longer before departing.

After some time of sitting in the hallway, Valken got sick of doing nothing and sick of all the filth surely accumulating on his clothing from such stagnating behavior. He rose to his feet and decided to leave the academy for the time being. He was not sure what he wanted to do. His father had arranged a place for him to stay at during his training. The driver had dropped his belongings off there after dropping Valken off. Perhaps he could go acquire the weapon amongst his belongings and train with that. Ugh, just the idea made him feel more barbaric. It would take a lot for Valken to even begin to consider embracing this whole predicament. Since there was no alternative, he would make his way to his place and train if he did not see anything better along the way.

Walking back through the academy halls, Valken realized his resolution to train when he got back was just a front to himself, an attempt to convince him he could make a conscious effort, but he could not. He did not care enough and would only respond to those of authority who directly asked something of him. Until someone like that arrived, Valken sat in a random chair, leaned back and began to nod off. . .

((Enter from Main Island: The Academy))
Batsu made his way to the academy rather slowly. He had to admit that the walk was very calming to his nerves. The book upset him so much since he grew to be frustrated... which was quite odd considering how mild-mannered he was.
The boy clutched the book to his side and glanced around the halls and spotted a new face sitting on the bench almost asleep. Batsu at first became a bit apprehensive to approach the other male. However, he decided it best to talk to him. after all, the two might end up being on the same team.
Batsu walked up to the bench and placed his hand on the other boy's shoulder and gave him a gentle shake.
"Hey.... hey... wake up..." he said in a friendly tone.

Valken's dreams would be more nightmarish if he didn't expect them to be as cliche as they were. The whole losing his money and change of things to Valkens distaste was certainly the central theme, but Valken still approached it with the same smug apathy he did in real life. Eventually it faded out, slowly at first, but then increasingly violently. When it got to the point where he was literally shaken awake, his eyes snapped open and he came to the sight of some boy. In reality the shaking was much more gentle than Valken's awakening, but he still instinctively responded how he normally would,
"Get your greasy hands off me you-"
Valken saw the blue haired boy standing there wide eyed from Valken's response. It was a gut reaction so Valken did not feel the immediate need to apologize, it was clear that the other boy was just trying to be friendly and Valken promised his dad he would at least try to be a team player. That's another thing Valken disliked about the whole 'ninja' thing. He hated working with people. Valken was not so arrogant to believe he was good at everything . . .yet . . .but he still knew he was the only one he agreed with and the only one he could trust. He hadn't gone to school, but saw great benefit when he had one-on-one tutors. Well, he would have to get used to it and while making friends was a lot ask of him, simply not alienating his peers was something he would aspire to for the time being.
Ahem, yes well . . . Hope I did not frighten you, I am quite the nervous sleeper. I must say you are the first face I have seen all day. I can only hope you are a student here and perhaps explain why these halls are so empty."

Batsu took a step back from the reaction. To be honest, it scared him a little bit. Never before had he seen someone so jumpy when they first wake up. On the same token, he never really got to know anyone outside of his family in the first place.
Nevertheless, the other male did explain himself in a way, so he eased up a bit... but he still had is guard up. If he spazzed out from being awakened, who knows what else?
Anyways, he felt the need to answer the newcomer as he slid his hand in his pocket.
"Yeah, the sensei and a few students went to the grove as a challenge. I elected not to go. Guess it was a good thing, because you might have been here by yourself for a while."
Batsu then introduced himself to the other student.
"By the way, my name is Batsu, and yes, I am also a new arrival."

The boy now revealed to go by Batsu was a little wary of Valken after the almost-would-be-lashing he received. Nonetheless Batsu was friendly and clued him in as to where everyone else is. Valken had no reason to harbor any ill will towards him short of his typical superiority complex. He would continue to engage with Batsu, having little experience in conversation with someone his age wouldnt help, but he needed to learn.
"Valken Carnivira. Charmed, I'm sure. So what do we do around here anyway?"
Valken had now risen to a more casual stance than the aggressive newly-awaken one he had been caught in prior. Even though this was a new environment, Valken was surprised how lost he was without authoritative structure like what he was used to when taking lessons at the manor. He was torn between his desire to put work off and to seek out the sensei to determine what he should be doing (or putting off) in the first place.

Batsu kinda shrugged a bit. He had no clue how to respond since the first exercise he was given he shrugged it off. Then again, it was the ONLY exercise he had a chance to do. Instead, he went to the library and attempted to read a boring book. Consequence in its own way.
Batsu tossed his book the ground and sat right next to it. He sat down indian-style and looked back to Valken.
""Um... to be honest, your guess is as good as mine. When I first came in, sensei announced that there was a race to a grove. I didn't participate partially because I didn't want to and the other part being that I hate rushing into stuff without knowing what the hell I'm doing."
Batsu looked off to a vacant spot on the wall and sighed.
"Guess I have to just suck it up and just go with the flow, ya know?"

When Batsu took a seat, Valken himself did the same. Not on the surely filthy ground, but the chair that had prior served as his napping place. Batsu seemed to know little more about the going ons here. Something Valken couldn't blame him for, knowing as little or less than him. Well frankly, he could still blame him as was in his nature to do regardless of hypocrisy, but was making an attempt to be a more tolerant person amidst this experience, so chose not to.
Batsu and Valken did share the distaste for the 'gung-ho boldness' synonymous with rushing into stuff, so he understood the other boy's reason for avoiding the race and would have done the same had he been there when it began. Valken had not expected this whole open-mindedness to yield to him even the slightest connection with another human being so soon, but he noticed things he had in common with Batsu. The book lying next to him gave the impression that he, like Valken, was more appreciative of the intellectual and aesthetic arts than of the brutish ones.
While this whole 'getting to socialize with children his own age for once' was slightly enthralling, Valken would not get ahead of himself. He barely knew Batsu and would see how the days in the academy went before considering the intricate workings of a 'friend' in regards to his peers. Still, he wasn't going to go out of his way to alienate either. Looking up at Batsu, he pushed out a semi-awkward half-smile (having little practice with the entire smiling concept) and responded in his usual tone,
"Indeed. I too am in a similar predicament. Well, we certainly will have to deal with general training now, no matter how brash and mindless, but in time I hope to specialize in roles that cater to my interests a bit more."

((Well I guess some self-training is in order while waiting for a new teacher))
Valken began to lose interest in the sedimentary 'loafing about' he had slipped into. Batsu had a lot on his mind it seemed, so Valken nodded his head and excused himself. He walked around the academy. His schooling had graced him with a knowledge of terms such as chakra and ninjutsu, not that he had paid any heed to it. Plus, knowing the terms and concepts did not equate to a full-fledged understanding. He was not well-versed in anything chakra related so would not know how to train it well. Still, with no other distractions, Valken actually yearned to do something constructive, if for no other reason than to give him something to do. What to pursue was the question. He did not feel yet up to the combat related skills nor did he see any good books to read in the academy. Eventually he equated the idea of ninja with 'going fast' and would work on his speed. Wishing for a teacher's presence to have been there to guide him, Valken tried thinking of the best way to do that. Possessing no extraordinary speed, his best guess was to simply run.
Valken was still cautious towards the whole idea of exerting himself, but wished to do something and training merged that with his resolve to try and embrace his being in the academy. Valken was not sure if there were some proper facility to do this in, but he eventually just decided to run around the academy. It was still snowing outside, but the small, brisk tuffs of tiny ice crystals were barely a distraction let alone an annoyance. Besides, Valken had always not been too bothered by the cold. That was still a mere one aspect of his personality that was compatible with this whole place.
Valken started his run, not really preparing for it as he didnt really know how.

Valken started off adequately. He began at a brisk pace for a minute or so before picking it up. He was not doing this to test his endurance, it was solely about speed. Going at a faster speed, Valken noticed a lot of clutter on the ground. He was not exactly running through paved trackways, so there was a risk of tripping, which simply meant Valken would have to live up to his excellence and not trip. Just the fact that he was running surpassed his expectations for himself. It was not that he was particularly lazy, it was just more that when he studied, he preferred mental over physical work. Regardless, Valken kept running so as to provide a bit more balance to his frail frame.

Valken continued to run around the building as fast as he could. He was just barely maintaining his footwork so as not to trip. That was something he had realized. No matter how fast your body is, you need a strong instinct and intuition to keep up or else you would just run into stuff at high speeds. Valken supposed that wisdom was just as important as dexterity when it came to dodging. It was an interesting revelation. He couldnt think too much on it due to the fact he could not ignore the increasing intensity of his breathing. Because he was going for speed with no interest in pacing, he already felt the initial effects of minor fatigue. It was not anything that would cause him to stop anytime soon, but it was a basic toll of having an untrained body. Valken would just have to ignore the slight swelling in his abdomen and run fast as long as he could endure or keep from tripping.

Pushing his body to great heights, Valken lunged at speed he did not know he was capable of. It was not superhuman by any means, but he was developing more technique than he thought available in such an event. He could lean forward and bend his legs in alternately, kicking off the ground with more force to go faster. It was really interesting when he paid attention to what he was doing. He would not say outright enjoying it. Hard work was unfamiliar to Valken and generally unwanted. But the faster he became a decent ninja, the sooner he could quit. He knew his father would disapprove such thinking, but the fact Valken had resolved to come this far was enough growth for a lifetime. Again, Valken could not dwell too much on other matters as he needed to pay attention to what he was doing.

It was surprising how competent Valken was when it came to quick movement. He had slowed slightly for the preceding burst, but was still maneuvering a disjoint path at a quick speed. He felt the suddenly-there suddenly-gone pats on the ground as his feet hopped up and down, propelling him ever forward. Because there was a light layer of snow on the ground, the footsteps made a slight crunching sound that conjured a nostalgia in Valken. His family used to go on holiday to snowy locals and the younger version of himself would trod through the snow, his snowboots crunching it down in his steps. What an affinity for ice and snow Valken had. . . Lost in his thoughts, Valken's foot lowered a bit prematurely and his toe smacked into some loose rock in the ground. It did not hurt very much, but caused him to lose control a little. Luckily he snapped back to what he was doing before he lost it.
