So I have been playing Tau for a year or so now and have found a nice ballanced 500pt are that i can make minor modifications to that counter different armies. I am now thinking about what to get next, i have narrowed it down to either a devilfish for my firewarriors or a hammerhead for fire support.

My current list fields:
-1 unit of kroot (varying unit size)
-1 unit of 12 fire warriors
-1 unit of 5 gun drones
-commander (varying settup)
-2 crisis suits (varying settup)

so yeah anyway, based on all this what is yoor opinion.

yeah umm seem i got missed >.< would someone be able to give me some advice???

decide if you want static "thin blue line" army or mobile "air cavalry" army
in the first instance , more fire warrriors, along with broadsides and possibly sniper drones
in the second variant, get devilfish, hammerhead and any future fire warriors need to get devilfishs too..

I've experienced problems with my commander as well, in terms of getting him to stay vertical that is. He licks to fall over so I stuck one of those flying stands up his a** and glued it to the base and now he stands as stiff as the pole I shoved in him.

i would just stand up 3 squads of fire warriors in a nice neat line with kroot behind and snipers just in front of the warriors THEN i will send my commander on a suicide charge into the enemy razz

well you would be suprised how many people dont even have the damn rulebook for the game yet

Ok well you have a Hq and a Troops choice, and as we all know you need 2 trps for the bare minium. You said you wanted some Kroot. If your serious about them I would get them next to break up the monoteny(sp?) of building all them darn fire warriors. I still have nightmares about sky blue Guardsmens and Tanks

I suggest the Hammerhead. As it is you have no Heavy Support, and the meat of a Tau list lies in it's Heavy and Elite slots. Just remember to use pins or rods or magnets to make the main weapon swappable.

I suggest the hammer head as well. Make sure to use that railgun a lot. They come in handy. wink

im think i might get XV8 Battlesuit Commander for my HQ then later some kroot so when they get near my tau they can run behind kroot and start killing when the kroot all die razz

Not a lot of confidence in the kroot there. Also with anywhere from no armour to 6 armour, wouldnt the kroot be more suited to assaulting the units that would disrupt your firing lines, rather than just being a meat shield?

Though of course i dont play Tau, so Im not sure of standard kroot practice other than what ive played against and whats in the kroot merc codex.

i use kroot as meat shield so when they die they will die my tau start shooting because they run back about 28 inches when the kroot die then they can face my guns once more then i can send in shas el to eliminate the remaning men

Kroot serve as momentary distractions, meat shields, and screens. There isn't much use to them since they aren't that good at melee and they don't survive worth crap. Best use is to send them in as a last ditch effort to get someone away from your lines.

All the tau that ever gave my eldar or marines any trouble had a kroot squad or two that they used to assault me with. Seems to make better use of their special rules than just standing them in the way of something. Especially considering what was said about their survivability, wouldnt that make them bad meat shields then?

Besides that a meat shield should be more durable than the kroot are able of being, paying the points back should be an issue. This may come from playing eldar, but every unit should be able to take down something or have some real use, which standing around to get shot is not a real use.

Their survivability makes them expendable.

The best use for Kroot is not for assaulting, or for being meatshields. Thier best use is as a deterrent. They can be used to push back enemy infiltrators, or to deny a section of board to the enemy. Thier Fieldcraft special rule allows them to pillbox in a forest, threatening a 24" radius around them without fear of reprisal, so long as the forest is sufficiently large. If it isn't, then no worries, they still get a 4+ cover save. And if someone decides to close in and charge, they risk a countercharge, since Kroot don't have to worry about forest terrain.

I myself don't use them, but it's not because of thier rules, I just dislike thier models. They're a headache to put together.
