Question for you guys: Is there only one sign language used over there in the states for deaf communicaton? I'm asking because my job includes sign interperating and it's a pain in the a** sometimes. There are two languages used here, Auslan and Signed English. I trained in signed english because you sign every word, (perfect for teaching sentance structure in schools) Bt Auslan is different, has different signs and a much different grammatical structure. It's a realy pain to teach kids who sign with auslan how to put sentances together because they have to translate it back into english! Anyway, stop rambling, Ant, yes sir, What was my question again??? Oh yeah, how many sign languages are there in the states... I'm really not awake yet, am I? No. Thanks...

Ugh, I'm sorry Glitter, does he not see why you don't want her to?

Wow Uni, you really did well in those! Glad you're back!

Sign language is really cool, I learned a tiny bit for Girl Scouts, but I have a hard enough time getting Logan to speak period, so we didn't do the baby sign language.

He thinks she'll be responsible when she has a reason to be responsible. I'm like yeah that's a nice idea, but aren't there other responsibilities you can give her before we experiment with my son.

My dad may have agreed to a test day though. To see how she'd be with him by herself for a while. As in longer than a grocery shopping trip.

Yes, there are different versions of sign language in the U.S. We have Signed English (might be different than what you use) and also American Sign Language (ASL). ASL is the more formal version, I believe. I'm pretty sure that ASL uses different syntax than spoken English. I could be wrong though. Tetravus may know more about this than I do.

We use both SE and ASL. American Sign Language does not sign every word, instead it attempts to convey a message. If I was saying I have 1 brother I might sign one, brother, and point to myself. Where as you know in Signed English I'd sign every word. I know more people who use ASL...we Americans we are LAZY! No seriously... Most people who use ASL that I know though know Signed English and were taught it first.

One of the first things we did when I was a camp counselor when I was 16 at a camp for deaf kids was we made up and shared our signs for our names. Mine was holding my hand like I was drawing a heart in the air.

When I speak about baby sign language there are whole involved sets of sign language by different psychologists and child hood education doctors with different signs that are easier to learn and they are geared toward kids who are not deaf but help them with the frustration of learning to communicate...which I'm sure you're aware of. Most of those are based off of the words in SE.

Hey, badloki & mods, I was wondering if we could start an In-Forum Pregnancy Q&A. I know that we have the Pregnancy & Childbirth Education thread in ED, but it'd be kind of nice to have something in here. The "For the Preggers" thread seems to be more of a place for the pregnant women to tell how they are doing and chat with each other, which is great, but it'd be nice to have a place to post questions about pregnancy stuff here in the guild. Plus, we could direct people asking pregnancy related questions there.

Well my little depressive mood is over, and ive managed to make one heck of a life decision. Some people here might look down on me for it, but as of right now I have 2 significant others, and they are friends, and are both fully willing to "share" me. One is ofcourse my mate kevin, and the other is my husband (we are still letting the divorce go through, but going to do a more spritual thing). The kids are ofcourse thrilled that daddy is back, and things seem to be going smoothly.
just thought i should let people know incase i bring up something that sounds odd.
Anyone else ever been in this type of situation?
