"Actually, if you're not busy we were wondering if you could teach us a bit?" Miyuki asked hopefully.
She hoped that they would get a yes for it.

Elarinya's eyes grew bright as she closed the door behind the group.
"I would be more than happy to teach you," she said warmly. "Come, this way."
She led them to the right side of the stairs, where her work room was. As with the last time Miyuki had visited, there were vials all over one of the work tables, and pouches, bowls, and canisters of various herbs and supplies. None of the burners were lit at the moment, but there was a pleasant scent wafting from one of the stone bowls on the other table.

Miyuki sniffed the air delicately as her attention was taken to one of the bowls. Of course there were a lot of smells, but that smell was strong in a good way.
"What's in that bowl?" she inquired pointing to the one she was sure the smell was coming from.

Elarinya smiled and headed over to the bowl, though she held one hand out to keep the others from getting too close.
"I'm working on extracting the juice from the fimlas," she explained. "Don't inhale directly, it will make you drowsy. It might not put you right to sleep, but it will make you quite clumsy."
It smelled like mint, and the scent, she knew, was alluring, so she moved the bowl closer to an open window.
"What do you use the extract for, if I may ask?" Shiro asked curiously.
Elarinya smiled at him. "Sleeping drafts," she replied. "Various strengths for various uses. Sometimes not even sleeping drafts, but something to calm people."

"I heard of that," Miyuki replied, "Sometimes if it's really really important in the Borderlands it's made into sleeping tea."
She paused and thought about it bit knowing who used it and why.
"So.... you can make it in a way that won't make people sleepy?"

Elarinya nodded. "Sometimes, if people get very upset, or if they're injured or panicking or something, their heart begins to race," she explained. "When administered in very small doses, fimlas can simply bring down your heart rate so that you calm down, without becoming drowsy or sleepy. It's very tricky, and the dosage varies from person to person, but yest, it is possible. And in such small doses, it doesn't matter if the person needs it again in the future, unlike if a person uses it to sleep."

"How do you know how much for a person?" Miyuki asked.
That sounded like a hard thing to do.

At that question, Elarinya had to pause.
"Well ... there are a few factors," she said finally. She watched curiously as Shiro took out his tablet and began to tap away at the screen, but she continued talking as well. "You need to know exactly how much the person weighs - and I do mean exactly. The draft after all affects their whole body, and if you give them too much you will put them to sleep, or, if you're trying to put them to sleep and give them to much, you could put them in a coma. The other thing that it is vitally important to know is how much magic the person possesses. Its type, its potency, how it affects their metabolism ... everything. It is generally the same with any drafts, but the femlas draft is more dangerous than most."
Amalirahc was halfway listening, but he was distracted by Shiro and his tablet, and he was watching the neko while he listened.

"So.... how do you know how much magic a person has?"
Weight was easy you weighed a person if you wanted to know how much they weighed but something like magic Miyuki couldn't imagine.

"I have a gift," Elarinya replied with a smile.
"Have you ever heard of tierlan?" Shiro asked her, looking up from his tablet.
Elarinya blinked and shook her head at him. "I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I can't say that I have," she admitted apologetically.
Shiro chuckled softly. "No need to apologize. I'm not surprised. Tierlan is a sleeping draft that the Sky Elves of Amon Darthir make. It doesn't use the fimlas plant, and it's safe for everyone."

Miyuki looked at Shiro, she should be use to it by now. Even if she did like being around Shiro at times more than Kaito, he was just as single minded.
"Shiro likes to know everything," Miyuki told Elarinya, "He has recipes for drafts from a place called Amon Darthir. He'll probably ask more question than me because he would know what he wants to know."
Since Shiro knew more than she did.

"I was actually hoping to learn about all of your plants and herbs," Shiro told Elarinya without hesitation or apology. "If it's all right with you, to have some pictures of each of them, with their descriptions, properties, and uses."
Elarinya looked as though she didn't know if she should be surprised, honoured, embarrassed, or intrigued, and in the end she ended up being all four.
"Well ... it would take quite a while to take it all down, and to make good drawings of them," she said hesitantly, "but you're welcome to learn all that you like ..."
"Oh, it won't take as long as all that," Shiro grinned, holding up his tablet. "And in exchange, if you like, I can share with you the recipes that I do already have, and if you don't need that, I am quite prepared to compensate you monitarily."
Elarinya smiled. "I would like very much to see your recipes," she admitted.
"Done!" Shiro was quite pleased. "But for now, perhaps we should focus on the children. Their schedules are quite a bit more ... shall we say, guided, than mine."

Miyuki resisted to point out that Shiro also had fancy Gaia tech thingies to help him with his work in getting everything set.
"Mommy said she'll let me plan my day as long as I also train, and practice writing... and my languages, but at the end of the week I have to show her what I've learned," Miyuki told Shiro.
This was done because unknown to Miyuki her mother had pretty much free reign of her day. Lin had not had her day planned by her parents since she was probably a few months old. Of course this was because Lin tended to plan her whole day herself, which at first kind of made her father wary because not many children had that capability.
Though Lin thought it was a very good ability to develop.

Elarinya smiled and nodded. "I understand," she said warmly. "You're welcome any time you like. I don't keep specific hours. That being said, we should probably begin, then. What would you like to know about first?"
It was best, she thought, to start with what they wanted to know, and work from there.

Miyuki had to think about it because honestly she didn't know where to start.
"How about what the different plants are?" she finally asked.
She of course had no idea what all the plants did so that was a good place to start.
