"That would be handy," Earendil chuckled. "Even the ones that live the furthest away are only steps away with the portals. Like this world. Would it not be quite handy to have that here as well? A portal to step through to travel from one country to another?"
He grinned. "But then where would the adventure be, yes?"

Lin chuckled at that, "We only use that to keep in touch with all of you, and you need to have been to that area at least once before a portal can be made. Otherwise you end up all over the place."
Though she had to agree it wouldn't be much of adventure unless they could got there themselves.

Earendil smiled. "From my understanding, that is how Yue and Yukito ended up at the palace all those years ago, when I was a baby. When they were trying to bring my aunt back the first time."
He had no memories of the time, but he had heard enough stories from many different people - Lin included - and he knew the basics of what had happened.

Lin chuckled at that, "Yes, the first time they messed around with something like that and people ended up all over. I found it kind of funny they ended up in the palace. That must have been strange."
Two angelic men, one who seemed as cold as ice and the other who was sunny as sunshine. What she would have given to be the fly on the wall for that.

"Well, I was too young to remember," Earendil chuckled. "But I would imagine it would have been quite something. Mother tells me I was the one to guide them through the labyrinth, which was where they ended up in the first place."
Had he really known the labyrinth so well at so young an age? Apparently so.

"You always liked being in the labyrinth I guess," Lin grinned.
Since that was how they first met after all, she wondered if he always spent his time there when he was younger, or if he spent any time in there now.

"I suppose so," Earendil chuckled. "Once in a while I still go down there, usually when I want to be left alone ... but for the most part, I really don't have much time to spend in there."
He had once been interested in making a map of the labyrinth, until he had realized that it defeated the purpose of having one in the first place. If it fell into the wrong hands ...

Lin nodded that made sense after all Earendil had a lot of stuff to do now.
"Do you miss going down there more often?"

"Sometimes," Earendil admitted, "but it's not as if I have anything to do down there anymore. It's more or less my thinking place."
He glanced down at her. "What about you, do you have anyplace you go when you want to be alone?"

Lin thought about it, no one interrupted her in her room, but she didn't think that's what Earendil meant.
"I don't know, no where besides my room I mean," she admitted, "I hadn't really a need to really get away from people."

Earendil smiled. "Must be quite peaceful at your home," he murmured wistfully. "I wish we could have that all the time ... sometimes it's just hard to get away and have some peace ..."
He smiled again. "Well. I guess that's what happens when you're born into a family with the status that we have," he shrugged. "There are people who are willing to kill to be in such a position as I have ... but I don't think they really know what it is they're asking for."

"Everyone has their own lives, there are clan politics but it's certainly not like your politics. It's large families that's all," Lin murmured thoughtfully.
She knew just from watching Earendil that being born into a family with that high of a status, well it sucked. Actually from some of the conversations she had in the past about how Atalya was doing told her in the past it sucked.
"It gets very stressful? Being there sometimes? Having to live up to all these expectations?"

"Without a doubt," Earendil nodded. "Daeron was smart, getting out when he did. I'm not entirely sure why Lothiriel would have chosen such a life, but apparently things are much better for her and Estel than they are for Ninako. But I plan on finding somewhere else to live, someday. Castle life isn't for me. Not now that I've experienced other life."

"That's because people still remember what she and Estel have done that created the Eastland."
Poor Earendil, castle life was certainly not for him, but she understood the problem in a different way. When she thought about it, she knew the difference. Eastland didn't care as much about status, they gave respect because the King and Queen had given them order, showed they cared and freed one of the cities from an unjust rule.
"But still, politics aren't fun. Even Estel and Lothiriel are busy most of the time."

"That is very true," Earendil agreed. "After all, when we were there, it was mostly Amora showing us around ..."
Not that he had minded, it had been a good visit. But still, it reminded him too much of home.
