Jacob ll Crow's Nest

Jacob shuddered momentarily as Ajora projected James's scream straight into his head. It wasn't a scary movie he could mute. It wasn't expected. There was no preparation. Just...agony. "Noelle. Ajora has access to James's trinity charm. You don't don't use them to co-ordinate troop movement so to speak, do you? He's in James's head, and he just..." Jacob cut off "I'm going to stop that man and get James back. By any means, at any cost. I promise you." Jacob put his goggles over his eyes at sat up on the edge of the wooden crow's nest. The wind whipped his hair about. "For now though, I guess I'm stuck here. I mean, he's obviously going to try and find us. So I'll stick around. For a bit." Jacob winked at Noelle, even though his eyes were obscured with his goggles.

[Cloud : Angel Grove : Streets -> Outside of the Church]

The way back was quiet and uneventful, giving an oddly foreboding sense of what might lie ahead. There were no more explosions ahead, no noises, and no ground shaking.

And now there were none of Ooze's henchmen. For the last several hours they had been fighting these creatures and protecting the church. Why was it so quiet now? Where had they gone?

Cloud turned the corner, coming within sight of the group. There was no immediate danger, he noted, but it was obvious a battle had just recently ended. A quick headcount lessened the guilt of not having been there. In fact, there was one more than there should have been...

Cloud's approach was unhurried. His eyes sought out Leon.

[ Seymour : Angel Grove : City Streets ]

Seymour sighed as the inevitable occurred. He had been moments away from correcting Nicholas, anyway- honestly, even if he could supply Kyla with his near-endless mana reserves, he could not fuel her drive with Amy. It was, as previously mentioned... inevitable.

"As I said," Seymour declared, and though it did sound almost 'I told you so' in nature, there was still the tone of disappointment- not in themselves, but in the situation. "However, do not find fault in yourselves- the ending of the drive had to happen, and even if we'd attempted to physically bind them, they have the power of Darkness on their side, as seen when Beatrix destroyed not one, but two of the Lotus Shields in a single blow."

"I believe, personally, that Kyle and Demyx pose the best courses of action- as I am sure both instances are related," he vocalized. He looked over the group once again. "Is there really any other choice? Ooze's feathered fiends haven't had a go at us in some time before the four of them appeared, so the children are almost certainly safe. Helping the Hawaiian village is a priority, anyway- was that not the King's last known location*?"

[??? .:. Hawaii .:. Beach]

The waves crashed upon the shoreline of the unknown beach, no presence of life within sight save for a few seagulls. It was a peaceful scene, one that people don't often see nowadays without the intervention of a person treading on it. The gulls above cawed ceaselessly as they scoured the waters, hoping to find a fish foolish enough to swim near the surface.

Without warning, a thin current of ghostly white energy shot up from the surface of the water, wrapping itself around a gull as the bird's caw was forever silenced. More streams of the energy branched off from the seagull and struck each and every other bird in the vicinity. The energy receded back into the water just as the birds all landed on the surface, each one's life having been stripped of its body. Slowly the form of a head appeared at the surface, making its way for the beach. Inch by inch, the figure of a young man around 20 years of age emerged from the sea, his body clad in black and red clothing.

"We escaped."

~

The boy tapped his foot on the sand before summoning his old weapon, the Grieve Edge. While it held no special abilities, his signature weapon served him well as a doppelganger. However, he felt more power than just that. The young man threw his arm out to his side, the ghostly energy firing out of his palm and taking the shape of a scythe before solidifying into an actual weapon. "Not one... but two weapons..."

~

"Stop calling me that." The boy dismissed the scythe and Grieve Edge before turning back to the ocean, kneeling down and looking at his reflection. His eye... His left eye now bore the glyph, completely void of a pupil or the old Heartless symbol that was there in his previous form.

~

"My name is Laan now. Please refer to me as such from now on."

[Carribean Sea ~ The Pearl]

Noelle's cheeks remained a little flushed as Jacob prolonged his hug and began to hold her tighter. She guessed he really needed a hug. That was okay, though. It wasn't like it made her uncomfortable, she was just bashful. But when he suddenly became serious, the blonde could feel her stomach turn. The Trinity Charms? She had completely forgotten about them. She wasn't quite sure what Ajora would really get out of it. He already had what he wanted, didn't he? What more was he going to do? The thought made her shudder. It just wasn't going to stop. Noelle rubbed her cheeks, beginning to feel stressed again. What Jacob was saying didn't make it any better.

"Whoa-hey, what's this 'I'm going to' talk?" Noelle began, standing behind him as he sat on the edge of the crow's nest. "Because there's nothing that you are doing alone, buddy. Listen, I know you're angry, we all are, but going at this alone, if that's what you're insinuating, is a bad idea. With a capital 'B'. Take it from me, I tried that, and it got me nowhere but on a shady corner in Trouble Town. It ended badly, and it'll end badly for you too. Don't try and be heroic, because heroic is stupid. If you had nothing to lose, I might say go for it, but you do have something to lose, whether you think so or not. So . . . in general, bad idea. Don't be promising me that you'll get James back, promise me that you're not going to try and take Ajora, or any of the Replicas, alone . . . just promise me, okay?"

[Kyla: Angel Grove: Streets]
It was amazing how fast one loses sight of their original mission, when the lives of those dear were in danger. How quickly she had discarded the idea of finding King Mickey, when there was Beatrix, Yuffie and Axel to worry about.

Seymour had promptly reminded the girl what she sorely needed to keep her sights upon.
The sooner they found Mickey- the sooner bigger problems could be solves.
All of this; everything -The fights and the trouble. Everything from the replicas to the minions, the bosses waiting in every world- all of that couldn’t be solved with these minor battles. Only something more profound could stop it.
It was easy to lose sight of that fact with all of this chaos in the way.

It seemed nothing was going right for them right now, and even now it felt like windows were still closing in her face, or maybe it was just her. Kyla couldn’t shake this ominous cloud of doom that seemed to be looming over her in the back of her mind. Like she was forgetting something very important- or missing it completely.

Helping Amy to her feet she sympathized with her feet. “I know what you mean-“
It was hard to explain, this lacking feeling...being yourself again after being so much more.
Turning to Seymour, she would nod, “I think we should go. One way or another we’ll try again to free our friends. We need to find the King, and protect the people of Hawaii. Maybe if we start there, more light will shred upon the answers to freeing them all.”

Looking towards the distant Volcano, kyla wondered how long they would take getting there on foot. Riding Chocobo sounded like it would take less time. But that would mean running back.
"...Haste and run?" she mummbled to herself.

[Dawn : The Black Pearl : Cargo Hold]

[Cue : Music]

Dawn continued to cry into her legs. The occasional sob could be heard as they escaped her mouth her during the last few minutes. They started out being close and easy to make out. But as time went on and much soothing from Garuda, the sobs started to soften and become more spread out.

~'It'll be fine. You can't let yourself be beat up like this. You will get James back. Just got to be strong.'~

Dawn shook her head as she finally let her head rest against the wall of the ship. She started let out a soft sigh as she started to open and close her left fist. It still hurt, despite the healing received by the potion Joe threw before. Dawn took her right hand and started to message the hand that had gotten hurt before.

~'You should be careful with that hand. You could of broken something. Or at least work on healing it.'~

"Yeah," Dawn whispered as she took the glove off of her left hand to both message it better and use her own magic to help mend the damage. She let out a soft gasp dropping her glove into her lap.

~'What is that?'~

On the back of Dawn's left hand there was a tattoo (Ultima's command seal). What it was she could be, she hadn't the faintest idea. Her face went from puzzlement and surprise, to fear and sadness as she held her left fist with her good hand against her chest. She closed her eyes as the tears started to go slowly down her face once more.

~'What happened to you on that ship...?'~

[Alan :: Angel Grove Streets]

Alan put his hand on Kyle's, holding it tightly for just a second. It was nice to know that people were concerned for his mental health. Between Kyle and his summon, the darkness of Alan's mood abated somewhat. With clear deliberation, he arranged his face into a more presentable manner.

It was odd to hear Amy and Kyla both echo his sentiments. Kyla, especially. That girl - above all else, she, of all people . . . well, she had no reason to look down on herself, that was for sure.

"Sorry," he said. "Yes, I suppose we had better do our duty, helpless as we are." His mood was still clearly bad - his words had a definite feel of bile to them - but he was still more or less in control of himself.

Alan followed Kyla's gaze towards the volcano, pondering locomotion. "I'm fine with Dark Portals, personally," he said, "I mean, with Demyx's help. And if you all are okay with that. Otherwise . . . well, there are cars everywhere. Getting one working is something I actually do know how to do - in theory." He paused, than hastened to add, "I mean, I've never actually done it."

[Laan .:. Hawaii .:. Beach]

The death night held his hand out in front of him, manipulating and reforming darkness to his will when Death interupted his concentration.

~

"When I existed through half of Cory's heart, a special ability of mine was darkness manipulation. I could create basic shapes fairly easily, as well as harmless clones of myself. Here, it's basically the same thing only now it is fueled by the darkness in my heart rather than Cory's."

~

Laan continued working on the rather large mass of darkness in front of him, its size now on par with a hummer. "They were destroyed by Cory, of course. He's gotten stronger since we had merged together."

~

"Fear does not drive one such as myself. With your power, I have nothing to fear- not even death itself." The mass of darkness began to take a much more familiar shape now, resembling that of a large winged creature. "No, I do not fear him, nor has he become a threat to me. Cory's augmentative magic, when coupled with his own raw strength, makes him a dangerous opponent to some... But not I. His skill in magic is agonizingly weak."

~

"Only one spell is needed. He doesn't have the magical fortitude to resist it. The only problem would be catching him with it." The creature, now visibly a dragon, began to grow armor all over its body as its red eyes became apparent, their color to bright it almost seemed as though they were glowing. From the tip of the dragon's tail sprouted a large scytheblade as Laan added, "But he doesn't stand a chance. Especially not alone."

~

Laan dropped his hand as the dragon Unversed finished its formation, walking over to its side and placing a hand on it. "... Nithhogr, named after a Norse dragon that lay at the foot of the world tree Yggdrasil, gnawing at its roots and eating the remains of the dead."

~

The deathknight hopped up on the dragon, looking around at the beach for a moment. "Cory was here very recently... But he's vanished. His darkness control makes him a tricky target to track."

~

"I'm going to find the Replicas. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, and I had intended to speak with them anyway." With that, Nithhogr began to flap its wings, taking it and the deathknight slowly into the air. "But first:" Laan quickly reached down and formed more darkness, a small battalion of Unversed including numerous
Flood, some Scrappers, and a few Bruisers. They all stood still (save the Flood, who continued to twitch) and stared at Laan, awaiting their orders. "Cause as much mayhem as you can on this island, especially for my lesser half, Cory." The Unversed all quickly disappeared just as Nithhogr took off into the sky.

~

"No, but if the memories I have from watching Cory's actions are any indicators... Ajora will contact us before we contact him."

[ Kyle : Caribbean : Pearl's Lower Decks ]

Before Louis could answer, Anthony busted down the door behind them, making it crash just inches from Kyle, who had frozen stiff at the initial collision's slam. He mentally cursed to himself as his body slowly lost its tension, half wanting to backhand Anthony for jumping the gun like that, and half wanting to thank for at least checking in.

"Everything's fine, but thanks anyway," Kyle said, grinning as he helped Louis to his feet. Louis's next response, however, caught him off guard, causing his eyebrows to shift upward slightly in surprise. He hesitated a moment before responding.

"Er... what's the last thing you remember, Louis?" he asked, tilting his head somewhat. "So I know where to begin catching you up to speed."

[ Sora ; Kuja : Caribbean : Pearl's Main Deck ]

The moment the magic had returned to them, the Keyblade had flashed into Sora's free hand, filling him with a sense of relief that washed away the uneasiness and tenseness of the past hour, give or take. It was a horrible feeling, going from being one of the universe's greatest heroes to being just another ordinary teenager. He hadn't realized it before, but he'd been taking the Keyblade for granted.

Never again. Never again would he doubt the importance of the Keyblade.

As Noelle climbed the mast to speak to Jacob, Sora felt a pang of curiosity himself- he hadn't gotten much time to talk to the other new kid's himself, and this was the perfect opportunity. Grinning, he ran back down the stairs into the lower levels, to see if he could find anyone to chat with.

[[Louis : Caribbean Sea : Black Pearl - Below Deck]]

Louis shook his head lightly, leaning against the wall when an unexpected wave of dizziness swept over him, "I'm not exactly sure. I remember going below deck, then the nobodies attacking. After that..." Louis gripped his forehead as a headache ravaged his skull, "Nng... nothing. I can't remember anything after that, I just woke up here."

Louis shook his head violently to compose himself and stand upright, "Sorry," He apologized again, "What did I miss? You said we're back on the pearl, right?"

Jacob ll Crow's Nest

"No. I can promise you that I won't do something stupid, though." He flashed her a toothy grin. "I'm stupid, but I have enough sense to know when to apply it. But yeah...I'm thinking since you're alright, and my moomba is doing fine, and I'm doing swell, we should probably get the hell down from here. My brain has already given me...mental images of my death from up here."

[ Kyle : Caribbean : Pearl's Lower Decks ]

"The Nobodies, huh... sounds like your memory blanks right after the Negator showed up, which canceled everyone's magic out... still, if your memory was affected..."

Kyle eyed Louis curiously, as if Louis was no longer a person, but a puzzle to be analyzed. His memory stopped when the Negator arrived, and started again when they got out of the Negator's range. That meant his memory was being affected by magic of some sort... which put Kyle more than a little on edge. Geists, perhaps? No, they hadn't come across Geists since Narnia... as a matter of fact, there was nothing at all that had confronted them since the Negator that would have affected memory. That left 2 options.

Either someone's tampering with his memory from afar...

Or from within.

The last option, of course, required that the Darkness leaking out of Louis mere moments before hand be connected somehow to the memory loss. If the two were completely unconnected, then it was severely unlikely that something inside Louis was tampering with his memory.

Of course, he does temper with the Darkness on a daily basis... perhaps they're related, but it's just not as sinister as I thought?

Kyle shook his head. "No use stressing over it if you're better now. Anyway, the Nobodies had just been stalling for time- the Dutchman arrived with a Negator, a type of machine that cancels out all magic. The Replicas were on board, and they shoved us in the brig. Long story short, Ajora took the compass, Jenny's Replica, Alice, ruined Joe's eye, and James has been brainwashed. We managed to escape, and here we are."

Kyle shrugged lightly, rolling his shoulders back before giving the young man a reassuring smile. "We made it out in one piece, give or take, and that's all that matters. We happen to have a head start on Ajora's plans because one of his so-called allies leaked it to us before helping us out. And when he inevitably catches up, we'll be prepared- both to stop him and to free James."

[[Louis : Caribbean Sea : Black Pearl - Below Deck]]

The Arcanist leaned his back against the wall, taking in everything that happened in a nut shell, his mind naturally making things worse, or in this case, probably the most accurate image possible for the description. Louis dropped his head and looked at his tattered pants. Darkness shifted beneath the clothing and quickly filled the cuts and holes in the fabric giving the illusion that his attire remained whole, "Joe's eye... James brainwashed... losing the compass..."

Louis still remembered nothing, "None of this sounds familiar at all." Louis thought about the outcomes more then asked as he raised his head, "Is Joe alright, his eye I mean? You said it's been ruined... is he gunna be alright? How badly is he hurt?"
