Though he didn't say it, he didn't like that she was trying to play off her upset about not being able to return home as she wanted. It was more than obviou just by the feeling she gave off instead of her expression. But though an ear flicked, he didn't comment about it. Leaning back in his seat, finished with his eating, he pressed his fingers together and focused on her words.
But his ears perked up at the mention of the Forbidden City and he looked up. "Forbidden City? So there's another city other than Shoichi?" And magi were there... so there was magic in that area. Interesting.. very much so. Nodding to her explanation about how the city was locked, he couldn't help but be more interested.
"Is there a way to get into the city though? It would definately require the Emperor's permission, aye?" He had to figure a way to get to that city... he had to.

"Um, no." She would excuse him for the naivity on the topic as the splendor of Shoichi was not often something that those within this region were familiar with, nevertheless a fond smile did flicker upon her lips and she at last looked up once more to fix her gaze on Koniryu (or rather his goatee)...
"The Forbidden City is the titanic compound within Shoichi that is the home of the Emperor, most of his officials and his servants, concubines..." She began to tick a list of people and roles off her list until she ran out and gave a loose shrug, she was merely trying to emphasize that there were a lot of people in it but it wasn't a city in itself.
"It is big so we call it a minature city, but it is also Forbidden due to the people who live there." Now that she had pointed out the obvious she shook her head slowly, her expression sad as Koni seemed to become incredibly disappointed at the news that he couldn't enter the city itself.
"The Emperor is impossible to reach when the gates are locked." She pointed out softly, "There is nought to do but wait until he feels it is safe once more and opens the gates -" A wave of bitterness crept into her tone and she shook her head, "I blame the floating range and it's gifts to us, they had been more frequent before I was taking my leave."

It did good to see her actually smile again, though he hadn't realized he had asked a stupid question until she had properly explained and he found he could only nod. "Ah.. that would make a lot of sense then." So there was just one really big city and the Emperor's home was within it. Made a whole lot of sense that way. Frowning because he couldn't help feeling disappointed about not seeing the city, he rubbed at his temples for a moment before he looked at her carefully.
Oho, she brought it up. Last time they had mentioned it, she had gotten testy, but since she had mentioned the range on her own, he was going to ask about it. "The range? Ye said before that it tis the Gate of Hell... what did ye mean by that? And what gifts did it give ye, since it sounds like ye can hardly call them gifts if they're causing such a fuss..."

She should have kept her mouth shut, she cursed herself mentally for this slip up but considering what she had done there was really very little she could do to avoid the situation and thus she released a sigh - it would be easier for her to explain than to deny all knowledge for it was evident that she knew enough.
"The people of Shoichi view the Libern Range as the spawn of hell for a number of reasons. For a start, the moment it broke from the soils it destroyed half our city which we are incapable of repairing for fear that the range may decide one day to descend once again - similarly, as it left us it subjected us to the brutal winds of the tundra while submersing half the city in darkness where we live in a land of eternal ice." She released a sigh as her expression became dark and brooding, as though a deeper form of disgust was plaguing her.
"The soil used to be bountiful on the range and now we cannot even farm it for the crops would die alas that is not the only reason we view it with hatred. There are many in the city who believe it is the act of the gods but why then would the gods tossed mutilated, mauled and half eaten corpses into our city still warm as though they had died seconds before?" She gave a light shudder at this and wrapped her arms around herself in an act of comfort for she would find such a thing in no one else, she was experienced enough to know that much.
"The Libern Range spawns acts of torture, pain and suffering - it brings nothing but grief." She said finally and turned her head to the side to focus her gaze on the pillows, "Is that what you wanted to know?"

Oh he knew that Hayaharu was regretting the slip up, but there was no turning back now. Even Reika and Yue had heard it and if Koni hadn't spoken up, Reika definately would have. This was something Reika wanted deeply to learn more about it. One way or another. Though what they were hearing wasn't exactly whay Reika was hoping for and she looked rather disturbed while Koni kept a rather straight face about it all. It wasn't like he hadn't heard of such things.
But what didn't make sense to him was how the mountain suddenly began to float on its own. He could understand why the people there would truly come to hate the mountain range. Hell, he would be as well if he was a citizen there. But there alawys had to be a reason.. least that's how his logical mind worked. Nothing happened just because it could. That was something he had learned when he had arrived in Gaia. He thought it was just a freak accident but it hadn't been. Much to his displeasure...
"I dinnae blame ye for hating the range... anyone would with such horrid things that's been occuring... but is there a reason why ye hate it personally? Other than what's been happening?" he spoke carefully after a long period of time, wanting to truly think about it before he said something that might offend her.. again. "I wanted to know why ye hated it so much and it does answer those questions... however... we still need to go there. Tis something that will bother us until we do. But we'll need a guide to go there... would ye be willing to take us there, whenever ye head back that way yerself?"

"There is no way back into the city and it will take weeks for me to even hear word of when the Gates will open again," Hayaharu flared as she rose to her feet and motioned to Chu who was waiting patiently by the doorway to collect the bowls from the table, "And it is as though I am talking to a brick wall; you cannot get into that mountain as it is guarded by the gods - the last time somebody tried they returned to us mutilated and destroyed."
"If you anticipate that I will sacrifice my life for your needs then you are sorely mistaken." She snapped and with nod even a bow she stalked off the room to emphasize her evident disapproval...especially when he had asked her to their guide, she wasn't about to sacrifice her own life for someone who was so completely selfish.
Nevertheless, what was even more surprising was that the maid quietly picked up most of the empty bowls and without a word she disappeared into the kitchen once more. After a few moments she returned to straighten the pillows that Hayaharu had knocked over but it seemed the mention of the mountain range had disturbed her just as much as her mistress.

And she reacted just like he had expected her to. A heavy sigh left him as he stood up, calmly collected Reika and set her and yue back into their travelling case. It was time to go. Ignoring Reika's questions about what was going on, he picked up the case and went back to his room. Seeing that his clothing had been dried finally, he set about changing back into them, taking his time to make sure that everything fit as it should. Wriggling his fingers inside his gloves a bit, he picked up the case to put it back into the pack before he finally answered Reika's persistant question.
"Why are we leaving?"
"Because she wants to keep her life. And I don't blame her for it, yet she won't help us. So we'll need to do this on our own apparently." His voice was rather calm as he stroked the top of her head. "She doesn't understand that this is a driving force for us.. isntead, she probably thinks we're rather selfish and stupid. I'm sure there is some way to do it... but I'm sure I'll need more information. We're heading back to the tavern and not causing lady Hayaharu anymore grief with our presence. Besides.." He soothed the whimpering girl as he fixed his hood to settle it back over his features, "I'm sure that Akiya's worried about us and we need to see him anyway..." He was tired of always offending Hayaharu and he was sick of it for this time being. She wanted to run away from whatever it was.. and he felt there was truly no time to waste. But there had to be other reasons he was sure but he wasn't going to ask anymroe. Doubt she'd want to tell him anyway.
Heading back downstairs, he looked over at Chu. "Tell yer Mistress thank ye for her kindnesses and yer own... but we'll be taking our leave now. Also, send my apologies to her. I can be a bit too stubborn for me own good and I dinnae wish to upset her quite so much." He then headed out the door, making sure Reika was properly inside her case before calling for Arkli. It was definately past time he left because he knew he had outstayed his welcome.
