"Themis?" the man repeated, tilting his head and stroking his beard, "You kiddos and your nicknames. Reminds me of the ol' war I had way back when. It was the brink o' dawn. Sun barely risen up," he sighed happily, "I had given a nickname to every low down dog in me platoon."
Manectric looked over his shoulder at the man, wondering when he would stop remembering the past and focusing on the present. The Pokemon then winced slightly, feeling a bit of his energy disappear due to the Poison.
"Oh, they were good times, laddie. Good times..." Wattson stroked his beard one last time, twirling the tip around his finger. "Oh! Yes!" he chortled, his round belly shaking with laughter, "The battle. Ay! Now me Manectric! Use a T'underbolt!"
With a howl, the Pokemon fired a stream of electricity from his body, very quickly. Again, he buckled under his own weight, becoming weaker from the Poison.

He fell onto the wooden floor, growling. The boy slammed his fist into the floor, which hurt him more than it did the floor. I'm never gonna figure this out! he thought angerily. Kilik looked up from the ground, his bangs covering half of his face. Giving his head a slight flick, the bangs returned to their normal position. He crawled back onto the harder part of the mat, then crawled towards the place he had been teleported from.
He closed his eyes and began to laugh on the inside. Watching the sheriff fail a few times was quite entertaining. Then again, the constant warping from one point to another was starting to work his calm nerves and upset his stomach.
Kilik felt around where he had teleported from. "There!" he smirked, placing his hand on a harder surface. Eventually, he managed to follow the pattern to the opposite side of the Gym. The boy stood, brushing his knees off and grabbing his coat tail, giving it a slight shake. Clearing his throat, Kilik looked at the Gym Leader. "Morty!" he called, "In the honor of Verdanturf Town, I'm here to collect a Fog Badge and add it to my collection." He had never said something like that before. It felt good.

Ah the thrill of battle. Eraku thought to himself. Hurricane looked ready for some fun too. "Alright Hurricane lets blind him first, throw a Sand Attack at him." Hurricane swooped into the air and began to flap his wings and a cloud of sand went right at the Tentacool. "Hah. Big mistake! You can't blind Creeper so easily. Use Poison Sting Creeper!" The young boy retorted.
Creeper swung a tentacle around and scores of tiny barbs burst through the cloud of sand and went straight for the unsuspecting Pidgey.
"Oh no Hurricane dodge it!" Eraku cried.
Hurricane attempted to fly above the deadly little barbs but some still found their mark and clipped Hurricane in the wing. He winced but the poison showed little affect and the fight was far from over.

Torchic puffed out her chest in an attempt to be intimidating, her beady black eyes narrowed into slits as she glared at the opposing Sandshrew. The sandy-coloured mouse Pokemon scratched its stomach, blinking back at Torchic.
"Start off with your Scratch attack," Jaeshan said, not really sure what else to do. Torchic was still quite young. The little chick jumped up quickly, and eagerly lashed out with her clawed feet, only to have them bounce off harmlessly. The Sandshrew had curled its arms and legs tightly to its body in a Defense Curl, making its tough hide even more impenetrable than before.

Keegan smiled as the man prattled on. Loki tilted his head and looked back at Keegan, wondering why the battle had stopped. Keegan shrugged, and the Arbok made a mental note to constrict the boy again sometime later.
Wattson came back to the present a moment later, and ordered an attack. Loki grinned and bared it, flicking his pronged tongue at the electric Pokemon dauntingly. "Bite it!" Keegan barked sharply, and Loki shot off like a purple rocket, static electricity still clinging to his body as he lunged for the Manectric, sharp fangs bared and ready to strike.

Since Hydro Pump wasn't working the trainer decided to use a different move. "Gyarados use Twister!" Gyarados gave a roar in response and then lifting its large tail used it as a fan to create a big twister that was headed right towards Apollo.
There was no way they could dodge this attack. "Apollo use Flamethrower on the twister!" Dante called out hoping that the flames combined with an attack would activate Apollo's Flash Fire ability. The pony looked back his trainer in confusion for a moment before doing as he was commanded. Soon the twister was now a pillar of black and white flames shooting up. Fire still spilling from his mouth Apollo was lifted up off of his hooves when the Twister hit him. Disappearing into the flames the other trainer, Gyarados, Dante, and Meowth could only watch as the flame pillar started to disappear.
Apperently Dante’s theory proved to be correct but he hadn't taken into account that Apollo would end up high in the air. The pony wasn't so good at landing when it wasn't from a jump that he had done himself. So what damage had been healed from the Twister was probably earned back upon landing on back on earth. Picking himself up Apollo glared at the Gyarados across from him his mane and tail burning brighter and bigger then Dante had ever seen it. Without waiting for an order Apollo dashed at the Gyarados, the Agility still in effect and making him a grey blur. Before the any of them could do anything Apollo was back on the Gyarados's head and was smashing his hooves down hard in an angrily Stomp. This seemed to do the trick as this time the Gyarados fell down hard smashing into the ground. Apollo who had jumped off just before they hit trotted over to Dante again tossing his flaming mane and flicking his fire tail in triumph.

In his excitement at having triumphed over the gym's invisible floor puzzle, Kilik did not see the round, large-eyed Gastly that floated aloofly behind him, laughing silently. It gave a wide, toothy smile and thrust itself forward, giving the challenger a slippery wet lick as a greeting.
"Now, now, Gastly, there's no need to greet everyone who comes to our gym that way," Morty said, shaking his head slowly and waggling a finger at the naughty Pokemon. "You should apologize."
The young Gastly twisted its face into an obvious fake frown. Then, still chortling to itself, it turned and floated away, vanishing into one of the nearby walls.
"Sorry about that," Morty said, adjusting the headband that kept his blonde hair in check. "So you wish to challenge me, do you? First, Challenger from Verdanturf Town, please state your name." Morty gave a charismatic smile and folded his arms across his chest, awaiting Kilik's reply. He was rather cheerful and optimistic for someone who kept ghost Pokemon as company.

Wattson shook his head woefully. "I know when I've been bested, laddie." He lifted his Pokeball and recalled his Manectric. Had he not done it then, the man would have had to witness his favorite Pokemon take the attack and fall before his eyes. Something that no trainer should really have to see. "Great job, Laddie. You've really got what it takes," he complimented, rummaging through his pockets.
"Where did I put those..." he turned on the spot a few times, then walked to the back of the Gym, getting a small box filled with Dynamo Badges and TM 34 then returning to hand the box to Keegan. "Grab yourself one of each and scurry along. I've prolly got a few more bat'lers to take care of."

Feraligatr roared as the windy energy cut into him, leaving a deep gash in his scaly stomach. The infuriated Pokemon continued to growl and grumble, its eyes becoming bloodshot as it lashed out at Xanthos furiously with his sharp claws.
"Ariel! Help Xanthos out!" Kasiya cried fearfully, bringing her hands to her mouth. The slender Vaporeon eyed the situation and took careful aim, firing a precise Ice Beam attack at the blue Golduck, nod dishing out a huge amount of damage but sending the duck Pokemon flying backwards nonetheless.

Kilik groaned, then shivered slightly, rubbing his cheek. "My name is Kilik," he replied. He slipped his hand into his pocket then looked over at the Ghastly as it had disappeared. Never seen a Ghost Pokemon other than Anna before, he thought. Inside, he felt his insides give a lurch. Anna was connected to Nina. The last thing he wanted to think about was Nina.
"Now, what're the rules to this battle, Morty?" the boy asked, looking over at his Lombre for a moment, then back at the blonde leader. He tapped his sides lightly with his fingertips.

For a moment Keegan just stood there, the fact that he'd won not really sinking in just yet. "Uh, thanks," he blinked, taking the box and procuring his winnings. "That was a great battle, perhaps we can do it again some-TIME!" The boy's voice was heightened to a shrill squeak and he only just managed to give the box back to Wattson as he was suddenly enveloped by Loki's many coils. The excited Arbok squeezed the boy tightly, having proudly helped his trainer earn his third badge. "Loki..." Keegan wheezed, "I... can't... breathe!"
Loki looked confused for a moment, and then realized what he was doing. He released Keegan from the 'hug' and slithered back a few feet, looking ashamed. "It's okay," Keegan coughed, getting back to his feet and dusting himself off, happy to be breathing again. "I understand how you feel." The boy moved forward and hugged the cobra, smiling as the snake's long tail coiled gently around his waist in return. Keegan then recalled him, and turned to Wattson. "Your Manectric is truly something," he said with a nod. "I hope my little Themis will grow up to be just as tough and unrelenting as he." With a respectful little wave, Keegan left Mauville Gym, feeling larger than life.

The fisherman watched as the normally non-effective Ice move blasted his Pokemon, sending him tumbling back near the Crawduant. "Snipe! Get back in there little buddy, finish that lobster!" The Golduck winced as it raised a clawed hand, brining it down on Xanthos. The force of the Scratch attack caused a loud crack in Snipe's arm, as he cried out in pain before passing out. "Got him!" The man cheered, before recalling Snipe and sending out another Pokemon. Its body shook, the warm Kanto air apparently not driving away the cold for it. It was shaped like a cone, and had a face like a tribal mask, a Snorunt.
Unfortunately, Xanthos was also not able to take anymore, and dropped to the ground. His carapace was decorated with many cuts and scars, and thanks to this fight, more battle damage would be added. Despite his beaten condition, the Crawduant felt proud. To lose in battle while giving it your all is what the warrior spirit is all about. He began to drag his way back to his trainer, his body making deep marks in the sand. Mike watched, a smile across his face. He could almost feel his eyes tear up. "You're really something Xanthos." He said as he recalled the crab Pokemon into his Pokeball, proud to wear the slash marked Ultra Ball. Mike reached for Beacon's Pokeball, snapping it out of its holster. He reached back to throw it onto the field. Mid-swing he was stopped by the sight of Felsic walking ever so slowly onto the battlegrounds, wearing his usual cocky smirk. "What are you doing Felsic?" Mike yelled, gripping at his hair. "Those are two Water types! In case you have forgotten, you're a Fire Pokemon!"
The Quilava held up a hand, ending the argument. After dealing with his trainer, Felsic leaned forward, getting on all fours. A short distance stood between him and the wounded Feraligatr, and he was quite convinced that he could take him out. In a moment's time, the Fire Pokemon exploded from his stance, a dust cloud erupting from the earth. Felsic jumped into the air, rearing back a shining paw. The scarf around his neck shone with the same radiance as he brought down a little fist into a powered up Crush Claw.

"Ah, Kilik then." The gym leader nodded, still smiling. "The rules of this battle are really quite simple. We will both use two Pokemon each, in a one on one battle. The first trainer to defeat the others will be declared the victor." He reached into his pocket, and pulled out a sliver case. He flicked it open, allowing Kilik to catch only a quick glimpse of it before it vanished once more. "If you can best me and my Ghosts, the Fog Badge is yours."
He flicked his wrist, immediately sending out his first contender. A Haunter appeared, its two detached hands clawing at the air. The ghost Pokemon eyed Kilik, its long pink tongue lolling out of its mouth. At the same time, a scoreboard on the far right wall came to life. Morty's picture appeared on one side while Kilik's one visage was shown on the other. Below Morty's image also came a picture of his Haunter. "Any time you're ready," the leader said cheerfully.

"You'll have to do better than that, Sonny!" the elderly woman told him, shaking a fist. "Go get it, Sandy! Use your own Scratch attack!"
Torchic had been looking at the spot where her attack should have landed, jumping up in surprise as the Sandshrew suddenly uncurled its body and lashed out with its sharp claws, landing a solid blow. Torchic cried out, ruffling her feathers and growling sharply. The Sandshrew's body glowed a faint red, its attack power lowered a bit as a result. Quickly the young Pokemon reached out again to attack, this time leaving a mark on Sandy's stomach. It growled, trying to swipe at Torchic once more but this time the quick little chick hopped backwards, her little beak clicking in excitement.

Kilik blinked. A Haunter? he thought, Never had to face one in battle before... He gulped the looked over at the Lombre resting on his shoulder. With a hop, the Pokemon landed on the Gym Floor in front of him. As was usual, the Pokemon nabbed the brim of his leaf hat and nodded. Lombre straightened out his back and crossed his arms over his chest, awaiting for the first command to be issued, by either of them. Should Haunter move first, he would dodge.
The boy stared over at the scoreboard, seeing his picture then a Lombre appear beneath it. Haunter's a Ghost-type, so my Normal moves aren't going to work on it, Kilik thought, But what's the harm in testing out my new Surf in a Gym Match? "Game on," he smirked.
