Hiei turned his hand, watching the blood as it now slid from the side of his hand and onto his fingers, where it rested, collecting at the tips. The apparition's eyes were always most interesting when he was watching something the way he was. They seemed to open more, not like he was surprised, but in a way that showed his full irises. That, in turn, allowed light to reflect differently off of them.
This didn't hurt him. Not really. Well, it did, but it was a small, controlled pain that he was oddly soothed by. His eyes became lazy, not as open again after wiping and sheathing the katana once more. He seemed to have slipped back into his mind, unaware of anything else.

Hiei's eyes were... interesting, different, and they seemed to signal that he was in a strange sort of trance. Such a thing was not exactly rare, but seeing the youkai like that worried him. If boredom would mean inflicting pain on himself, then apparently Kurama would have to keep him occupied quite well. But how? The fox had tried nearly everything he could think of.
His worry doubled when the koorime's eyes became slightly dull, and he didn't seem aware of his surroundings. That was definitely not a good sign, even if it was a usual occurance for him to lower his guard slightly when his friend was around.
Instead of using words, he tried to make eye contact, using that mode of communication. It wasn't specific, but it might let him know how he felt.

As Hiei drifted in this heavy state, a low sigh managed to escape him. It was only when he felt Kurama's eyes looking into his own that he blinked and flinched back suddenly. He had tried to raise his arm, a defensive move, but it was the binded one and he hissed as the cuff pinched the already red skin.
He cursed and looked down at the binding, confused. A surprised breath and a few more blinks, and the youkai suddenly remembered where he was, and what was going on.
He returned his gaze to Kurama's, a sort of questioning look in his eyes. "What?" he demanded, about the look on the fox's face.

When the metal pinched his wrist, he winced noticably. Already having been in an uncomfortable postion hadn't helped.
But still, a highly relieved Kurama answered, "I just wondered if you were okay, if you don't mind me caring."

"If I were anything other than okay, you would know," he said, now looking at the cuffs again. With his other (and slightly bloody) hand, he took Kurama's wrist and turned it.
"It doesn't make sense to deliberately make it uncomfortable," he said, sounding like he was scolding a child. But, honestly, he didn't see why the fox would do that.

"I suppose I would; you were breathing, and we both know that's the only thing that matters," the fox said, a twinge of sarcasm towards the end, though it was in good humor.
And to the second comment, Kurama tilted his head a bit. "Hiei, you do realize that I think just the same thing...? I was trying to make /you/ comfortable." But that was something the stubborn Koorime just would never allow, evidently.

Hiei stared for a long moment. When he finally looked away, it was at their joined wrists. Slowly, he turned his own wrist. Now it was uncomfortable for both of them.
"Now we're in pain together," he said softly, looking away.

His eyes widened slightly. For Hiei to say and do such a thing... well, it was something he would've never expected. But he welcomed the actions, and wouldn't have ever dreamed of questioning them.
What Kurama did do was slide closer to him, resting his head on the other's shoulder, and adjusted his hand so that they both had enough room for it not to irritate their already sensitive wrists.
The fox closed his eyes, only hoping his reaction would be favorable.

Hiei did not say anything. He did not move away. He simply let the fox get comfortable, keeping his own gaze hard and at the trees. This was a strange moment to him. Well, not strange. That wasn't the right word. It was... different. Kurama had always respected Hiei's distance and taken care when coming close. But this didn't seem like an invasion of space. It was comforting, in a way, to know that the red-head knew just how to come close.
And yet, this comfort was enough to confuse him.
((Just letting ya know, I may not be on much tomorrow.))

Hiei didn't seem angry, nor did he tense or try to put any distance between them. Though the the second two were the only things he had to go off of, since his mind insisted that he not look. The fox didn't see his eyes, or that he was trying to look at anything but Kurama, so he had only his other actions, or lack thereof, to judge.
Words were purely unnecessary and would most likely only cause problems. He feared that he might say the wrong thing, which would be extremely easy, and that the Koorime would either torment him about it endlessly, or, in the worst case, melt the cuffs and leave, causing him pain both mentally and physically.

After a moment, the jaganshi allowed himself to relax and close his eyes. He didn't know whether Kurama wanted to sleep or not, but a nap sounded nice. He shifted, only to make it easier for him to tilt his head as he prepared for the nap. Though the majority of him was now strangely nervous and the second he tried to sleep, he felt himself tensing.

Kurama had just gotten perfectly comfortable, but when the Koorime tensed, his head snapped up. "Hiei, is something wrong?" He didn't know quite what to think, but many thoughts of immediate danger went through his mind. But nothing looked out of the ordinary. This was... confusing.

An unusual look came across the koorime's face when he was asked if something was wrong. He brought his arms inward and looked down, eyes large with a childlike embarrassment.
"No," he said quickly, but then put on the narrow-eyed Hiei-face. "Sleep. If something is the matter, you will know."

At the request, Kurama reluctantly closed his eyes, but this time leaned back on the tree. Sure, he wanted to rest back on the hi-youkai, but somehow he felt it would be strange. The other had tensed and not explained it, so he couldn't help but wonder if something was amiss.

Hiei was quite confused when the fox didn't stay rested on him. He offered a quick glance, taking into notice the shine in the other's hair. A shrug and he turned slightly, kicking himself on the inside for a reason he couldn't quite understand.
He closed his eyes again, and dozed off easily.
