CelestialDreamz Reim @ Celest: FNM 3!? Oldschool, hun. Im pretty sure I've sent you 4 and the Real FNM. They're much better, but 3 is a classic. But to be honest to you, me and Brian were talking about Ryouko, and now we both agree.. they just suck at tricking. They're very clean and have skills, i admit, but they're gymnasts, not martial artists. Its pretty hard to get when you look at them, but after a while you'll get it. Celest.. you need more videos. It's like thinking all hip hop is 50 cent and Jay-Z. I'd advise you to www.bilang.com it up! The tournaments are a real good representation of "real" tricking. Although now it seems that tumblnig has overtaken some contests. Haha, I've seen the others. It's just that FNM 3 is the first one I ever watched, and that gajillion-step wallflip was amazing. I've seen the others, though. Lol, yeah, I don't understand that...they seem to do a lot of good, clean kicks with lots of rotation. I do watch those videos, it's just that they're meaningless when I honestly can't tell the difference between a 540 and the variations of it. Yeah, it's pretty freaky, you "deviate" one little bit from the tradition, family honor bla bla bla, you get a 4 hour sermon on how you'll end up on the street being a drug addict etc, it's so funny xD. You dun wanna know how much anime i've seen and got, that's like...a whole pile of it, and half of it friends have borrowed xD. But my favorites would be FMP, FMA, Gundam SEED and Wolf's Rain =).

Wolf's Rain Wolf's Rain!!!! Okay, I'll stop now.
Just thought I'd say that the demo went well. I made some mistakes but nothing unrecoverable and nothing the audience noticed. The pain came later during the two huge muscle spasms attacks in the parking lot which almost caused me to collapse and scream. But besides that, I got a compliment from my head sensei, the founder of the dojo, about how my ukemi was good. Considering that he always said we were pretty bad at it, I was very honoured to receive the compliment. And during the demo, somehow, I managed to ukemi with both hands on the jo, where earlier, I was lamenting on how I can't ukemi with even one hand on the jo.
Sorry, I just wanted to share that with everyone. sweatdrop I'm going to try and put the clip into the comp and online, but at least I have some hardcopies on good ol'fashion video tapes...

Lunaries Delmar_Denban Reim ftp://tricks:tricks@67.18.198.26/Reim/reimcantchuk.wmv I quit nunchakuing. Nice, are those padded chucks? Am having trouble viewing..what do you guys use? I just use windows media player. What version of windows are you using? ------------------------------------------------------------- This is exactly how I do it: 1. Copy this link into the address line on your browser (where www.gaiaonline goes): ftp://67.18.198.26/ Dont click on this link!!!! It wont work, just copy and paste it. 2. Once this is done and the page has loaded you may be prompted for a user name and password. User name: Tricks Password: Tricks Once you are in you'll see a big list of folders. Mine is Delmar_Denban Reims is called Reim double click on the folder to open it. 3. DONT TRY TO OPEN THE FILES IN THE FOLDER!!!!!!!!!!! Copy the file you'd like to view and paste it in a folder on your computer. Once it's copied across you should be able to view it. -------------------------------------------------------------------- This method works for me every time (i'm running windows XP). How are you trying to view the files?

Okie, after a night of playing around with videos and sound, I finally managed to get this fixed. Here's the demo that I kept speaking of. I'll probably take this down from the server in a couple days though:

So far so good. Looks like a decent demo.
I got a question.. How does Aikido fair against a hard and or fast style? How practical are those knife techniques? I dont see them as great at all.. maybe Im just unaccustomed to soft style though..
As far as I see though, it's a pretty imformative demo and very well put toghether.

I'll probably take this down from the server in a couple days though: www.isshinkan.com/aikido_demo_2004.wmv Wow, thanks a lot. =) I've always known and heard about aikido, but it's nice to get the chance to see it in action. My instructor actually has a first degree in aikido, which may explain why it resembles my style a bit. The main difference is that while we seem to use the same locks, you guys take more time actually getting to the locks. Another thing I noticed, particularly during the jo (at least I think it was jo) demonstrations, was that you roll unnecessarily. But yeah, like Reim said, it seems like a good aikido dojo.

Let's see if I can associate some of those questions. To Celestia first:
We spend a little more time in the locks in the demo because most of the people in that particular part of the demo were beginners. The girl in front who was partnered with the girl leading that part had actually been doing this no more than 3 months (less even I think.)
In the jo demo, it seems like I'm rolling unnecessarily and that's because to make the demo seem smooth and fluid, definitely a value supported in Aikido. However, they were not necessarily unneccessary. I was thrown, that was for sure, but we also did it within those safety parameters I talked about earlier. Slow and easy so I won't end up breaking or spraining wrists.
To Reim:
I'm not sure about how hard and fast would fair with Aikido. Aikido in that sense is not a sparring art, but one where if someone comes up to you with ill intent, you can quickly take the person down, disable or even harm. You might notice that sensei kept telling us to take the speed slow so the audience could see what is going on. The guy performing the knife techniques usually go very hard and fast. Mind you, he's also very much a street fighter and has had several styles ingrained to him besides Aikido (his family teaches Wing Chun I believe).
The knife techniques are effective, again if someone comes towards you and is ready to spear you with it but it's not in a premediated fight. We have a couple techniques where a person stands behind you with the knife (as if they are asking you for your money or holding you hostage without other people seeing) and we actually escape from that.
But in truth, I only have the word of my sempai (who was performing the knife techniques and has gone against several people with knives while he was weaponless...I saw the wounds afterwards) that aikido by itself is not effective, but that it greatly aids as it teaches the body instinctive position and balance in a way that many other martial arts don't concentrate on.
Thanks for the compliments..I was as nervous as hell when I was performing sweatdrop
//Edit: On second thoughts, I think when you say rolling unnecessarily Celestia, I think you mean by the bokken right? The sword fights? That's just for show to be truthful sweatdrop It's a way to escape out of a coming stroke and you notice we swing wide from each other. I've had times where we cut it too slow and my sensei has a huge bump on his forehead from my sword to prove.
