The idea of pidyon ha-ben is that all first born sons really belong to the temple service, and are supposed to be sent to work in the temple just like we do with the first of our fruites, our cows and sheep, our produce, and so forth.

Pidyon Haben is where you "buy" your son back, so to speak. Since nobody really wants to "give away" their son to the avoda at the temple (or whatever holy palce there is at the time), the cohen comes to the families house, and the "Pidyon haben" ritual is perfomed. It's pretty simple, the Cohen gives the father the silver coins beforehand, and during the pidyon haben, the father returns them in return for his son 3nodding .

I haven't heard of a case where the father wanted to keep the coins yet ninja ... haha XD

lol yea why do you want a boy first, i think i'd want a girl. But now that i've stated babysitting i realize how much fun boys are in the their own sense cause they get all excited over little toy cars ^.^ and and they wa nt you to push around the cars for them, it's so adorable. and so now i don't care about gender, as long as they healthy. But i think every person doesn't care about gender deep down as long as the child is healthy, and not like just going to die in a hour. lol ... yea sweatdrop

I remember when I was really little I used to line up all my cars in a long line, and if someone would toutch them, I'd scream rolleyes . I loved playing with my toy cars... It was really fun blaugh . We even have a movie of it 3nodding ...

Oh come on! I'm sure you did similar things. I remember when my mom would brush my hair I'd cry because she would never go easy on my tangles. : (
