Saint-Saens Hello fellow saxes! 3nodding It's been awhile since I posted in this thread. I had a quick question concerning falls. -I'm having trouble with them in jazz. I can do scoops and such fine, it's just the falls I'm having problems with. Yes, I know you can finger it, but that's not as much fun. Anyone know anything (tips, tricks, hints) I can do to help with them? xd I too, have trouble with the falls...I'm trying out for Jazz band and I can barely do the falls. sweatdrop

Falling_Out_Of_Life tenor sax...woot woot...and if y'all r confused...I double up on an instrument! Tenor is awesome. 3nodding *biased* XDD I double too, since there's no flutes in jazz band. My BD told me to play tenor 'cause there was too many altos already and I'm too tiny to play bari. ^^;; We've got like 6 altos for pep band and only 4 tenors. Of course, our only bari is a senior, and he's graduating. crying Which means we're bari-less next year... but my friend, an alto player, is talking about switching since we'll need one. That'll only solve the problem for a year since WE'RE going to be seniors next year... but at least we'll have one while we're there! xd

(XD Kind of a weird thing for a flute player to say.)

hi band nerds! i am an 11th grader this year and i had a free class so i thought, "i want to play in band" well as it turns out my school got rid of the beginning band class due to budget cuts (grrrr for California politics) so because i am an upper classman and 1st period was the only class i had available to switch around they put me in advanced band...i am musically retarded! so since the beginning of the school year i have been on auxiliary percussion and i really hate it. i took alto sax lessons and know the basics, but i couldn't afford to pay for the lessons and the rental fee of my sax (i'm paying for everything myself) my band teacher is kind of out of it and just noticed that i have been a fly on the wall in band for the last...5 months in band not learning much of anything except how to roll the suspended cymbal (which is fun) and to shake a maraca. the student teacher will start helping me monday, but my music reading skills are horrible and i still don't know most of the sharps or flats. trying to teach yourself sax while taking all advanced or AP classes and doing set work for a school play really eats up my time and sax gets ignored sometimes. the main reason i did join band was to play, but i'm struggling and not getting a lot of support from my band or parents. my goal is to get good enough at alto then switch to tenor maybe. i really want to play in a ska band xd (if you have any info with sax and ska please post!)
i would love to talk to any alto sax player who actually knows what the heck they are doing, hopefully in high school and in advanced band as well. (sorry Jr. High kids heart ) i would love to talk to you here or over pm/aim and if anyone knows any good websites for this sort of thing or free music sheets i would love to know about it.
if you know of any ska or any video game sheet music for free please let me know

If he is a band director worth his salt, he should be happy to help you with your playing. 3nodding If you are having problems keeping sixteenth note runs even, do something called the dotted rhythm exercise. You kind of play the first note long and the next one short and repeat it through how many sixteenth notes there are...like the dotted eighth and sixteenth note. If you have any further questions feel free to PM me. 3nodding

Tacincala Does anyone know where I can find the major/minor scales on the internet in two octaves for alto? Um...our band director has us learn them without a book. Just construct the circle of fifths/fourths for your majors first, then go on to minors once you are comfortable with your majors. 3nodding

That's easy.
