Geoffrey blinked a few times as he took in the sight of the natives, too amazed and confused to speak. They were more like animals than people, dark and covered in skins and furs and all manner of odd smells accompanying them. He gave Lady a reassuring pat as he watched them with raised brows, resisting the urge to pull out his journal and write everything down. Once a scholar, always a scholar.

Still, he was concerned about the gunshot. Had some frightened Scotsman set off gunfire on the unsuspecting primitives?.. He waved his hand at them and offered greeting, voiced raised and tone friendly. "Hello there!"

Lady's ears pricked forward and she watched the dark ones and their mounts with caution. The horses were running free, without bridles or saddles! Not a one of them carried anything for their master. Were they that ungrateful?.. She kept close to Geoff.

Princess Soquili raised a hand to the other pale faced visitor. "Osiyo!" she greeted and then proceded to talk in her own tounge about how they all should be peaceful..but didn't know if they were able to understand.

She looked to her people for advice. "How do we tell these pale faces that we are peaceful and don't want any war?"

Ansel glanced towards the strange horse that seemed to be... giggling? He gave a snort and tossed his head indignantly, "And what, praytell madame, is so funy?" Truly, this really wasn't a time for such antics.

Miguel watched one of the heathens of the new world walk toward him and hold up her hand. The word she spoke was strange to him; it seemed he would have to learn yet another language if he was to make progress among these people. Not one to want to offend people with weapons, he held up a hand and said. "Hello." And, to heighten his chances of being understood, he added. "Hola. Osiiyo?"

Arama blinked in surprise when one of the strange horses spoke something she could understand. "Yeah, I can understand you. Why are you talking so slowly?" She blinked for a moment, worried she might be doing something that would put her master in danger. "We...come...in...peace," she said at the same pace the other horse did.

Happily smiling, she was so glad they could speak as her. "We just thought you didn't and wouldn't understand us." Nodding with a smile. "We come in peace too, our humans here do not know anything about you or your two-leggers." Then she started to stare at the saddle.

Smiling everymore at the Princess bold act of walking out and introducing herself, Nokomei followed her out with Oathkeeper following equally as boldly in her tow. Nokomei stopped somewhere behind the Kawani Princess and gave a friendly wave at the pale faces in which the Princess had greeted.

Oathkeeper nickered and in the most friendly manner possible, went to nudge one of the pale face's soquili.

Astia nodded. "Yeah.." She frowned. "Atleast we can understand each other." She smiled at the horse, happy she understood Awnae. "I had a feeling you guys came in peace.." She ginned. "But why are you talking so slowly?" She flicked her tail.

Quickly looking at the boy who spoke something, she knew that he was speaking about Astia and herself. He seemed to be looking at the two of them. "Astia, I don't think we speak the same as they speak. Like our humans and us here." Nodding. Then trying again to speak with the horses. "I'm sure the soquilis can though." Turning to face the other horses.

A sound of laughter came from someone far behid them. Seeing Mesarthim laughing. "What is so funny?" Raising an eyebrow at the mare that was non-stop laughing.

"I just think they look funny.. why would they carry so many things.. why not just be free like us?" she said with a giggle. She remembered a legend about a horse that was treated poorly and kept down with thick ropes..it made her begin to get afraid and stop laughing.. Would these pale faces make her wear those things?..

Jessamin watched the two groups of people hit this invisible barrier of not understanding each other. She heard Princess Soquili ask for advice, but Jessamin didn't know how to get others to understand her. Chandrika's idea of food sounded good though, or maybe Jessamin was just remembering she forgot her morning meal and was feeling a little hungry herself...

Princess soquili nodded to the girl. "That would be a great idea.. go fetch a basket with the food from the harvest. We will present it to them!" smile

Understanding why she would laugh now, she too kinda giggled but then cleared her throat. "They can speak like us! Do you think we can create peace between our humans and the pale faces?" She asked Mesarthim. Smiling happily though, maybe they would be the ones who could make everything better.

Arama relaxed, and started talking at her normal pace again when she realized it wasn't a custom. "Oh, that is good news. My master seemed afraid you would hate us. I was talking slowly because I was afraid of accidentally offending anyone. Since we're new, I would hate to make a bad impression on my master and I."

Noticing that one of the other horses was staring at her saddle, she grinned. "Oh, that's just something for my master when I'm working. It's not that bad. He just hasn't learned to ride me without it, so I wear it to prevent him from hurting himself."

Mesarthim gave a stern look and felt stupid for laughing like that. She bowed her head down in shame. "I'm sorry.. I feel so badly for you. Did your two leggers do this to hurt you? Why are you wearing ropes around your face and a painful looking blanket? sad "

"Your.. master?" Astia asked."Offending someone?" She asked with a giggle. "Don't worry, it's a good thing you didn't do that do a kalona though." Tia grinned. "By the way, my name is Astia, what happens to be yours?"

"Our humans are scared that you would hurt them with the stick thing you carry." Pointing with her nose at the gun the settlers were carrying. "Ride?" Giving an confused expression. "You mean sit on your back like that? It looks hurtful, especially with the thing on your back. Work? You have to work?" So many questions to be answered.

Geoff grinned at the girl, feeling somewhat accomplished that his greeting made its way through the language barrier. He wasn't sure whether her next words were a longer, drawn out greeting, an explanation of what that noise was, or a recipe for stewed venison.. But at least they weren't attacking.

Lady looked at the pale, oddly colored horse who just saw it fit to nudge her. She raised her head and snorted again, still unsure. "Why do you walk around without your dressings on?.. How does your master give you instructions?"
