Age: 29
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Craft: Healer (Trauma)
Rank: Wingrider (Burning Aces)
Location: High Reaches
Voice: X Searching for a voice
Song: Cleopatra - The Lumineers
Physical Description: Fi'dal is a conventionally handsome man, nicely proportioned and with no major scars or birthmarks. He stands at a respectable six feet tall and is fairly in shape, not overly muscled but it's clear he spends a bit of his free time focusing on maintain his physique. His sandy blonde hair is short and a bit scruffy, cut this way to keep out of his way during work. He'll usually have a bit of facial hair as well but never anything too long for the same reason he has for keeping his hair short. His eyes are mostly a startlingly pale blue and are ringed with a deeper shade of the same hue. On anyone else they might have been intimidating or off-putting, but the warm smile that's nearly constantly on his face helps warm his icy eyes a bit.

Fi'dal is generally dressed in practical clothing when working, but when off-duty he prefers to dress on the fancier side. It makes him feel more confident and he feels that a good first impression is key when meeting new people, even if you'll never see them again. He prefers more subtle colors, shying away from bright, bold hues so as not to draw too much attention to himself.

Personality: Fi'dal is incredibly in tune with other people's feelings - if someone is happy, Fi'dal is all smiles. If someone is crying, Fi'dal will tear up as well. Even if he's never personally experienced whatever someone else is going through, good or bad, he can easily empathize with the other person and join in their joy, sorrow, frustration, anger, or embarrassment. It goes hand in hand with his caring nature and his desire to connect with everyone he comes in contact with, whether it's through his craft or simply in passing. Fi'dal has found that his bedside manner greatly impacts his patients and letting them talk their feelings out to someone who is there to listen earnestly improves their overall recovery rate and he is forever grateful that he doesn't have to force or fake his nature. In the same vein, whether it's in work or play, Fi'dal is very thorough in everything he does. He makes sure he sees it through from start to finish and any loose ends are tied up. A flake he is not and you can always count on him to get a job done that he says he'll do. Leaving something unfinished will bother him for days even if he knows someone else picked up where he left off.

Fi'dal is willing to go above and beyond for patients, friends, family, and even strangers. He is quick to put the needs and wants of others before his own, making them the priority. While he generally keeps himself in good condition and doesn't let his body or mind grow fatigued, there are times when work takes priority and he'll ignore basic needs like food, water, and sleep in order to continue a tough surgery or to keep an eye on a critical patient. He tries not to do this often as he knows it's bad practice, but sometimes it can't be helped...or so he says. Despite the proof that he knows what he's doing, Fi'dal often scolds himself over simple things like a stitch that could have been tied better or a few minutes that could have been saved on a surgery for a silly mistake early on. Even after a successful surgery he'll think about things he did wrong or could have done better for days, sometimes weeks after the procedure. People depend on him and letting them down in the slightest feels like a mark against his skill or intelligence to him so any small flaw always seems like a massive failure.

Though he tries his best to stay positive, Fi'dal is quite cynical at heart. He has seen a lot in his short time on Pern and knows just how awful humans can be to one another. Many times he's stitched someone up who had been attacked and robbed, abused by a loved one, or some other atrocity. To him, humans are not inherently kind which is why he strives so hard to be as good as he can be. And yet after all his efforts, all his hard work and dedication, he often finds the same people back in his care for one reason or another. It's all quite exhausting and Fi'dal is already overworked in mind and tired in soul from everything he has seen. The small handful of truly good people on Pern is overwhelmed by the tidal waves of greed, hate, anger, pain, suffering, and jealousy that the masses bring. And yet he soldiers on, jaded and weary, in an attempt to bring comfort and ease the pain of those who come to him.

Positive Trait List: Empathetic, Conscientious, Kind, Selfless.
Negative Trait List: Workaholic, Cynical, Jaded, Self-depreciating.

History: Fivudal was born at Fort Hold into a little family of healers. His father specialized in mind healing while his mother's specialty was acupuncture. Together they made a power couple of sorts, healing those with ailments that couldn't be treated by the general healer. Fivudal grew up watching his parents with interest and eagerness and he knew he wanted to follow in their footsteps. It wasn't until he began his Apprenticeship with one of the Craftmasters that he found what called to him most - trauma healing. It was a high-stress job but Fivudal was so drawn to it he couldn't deny the call. It was hard work and came with lots of sadness - trauma healers dealt with life and death frequently - but the victories made the failures worth it.

Fivudal advanced through his training as he grew and turned into a trusted and tried Trauma Healer Journeyman just shy of his twenty first Turn, an accomplishment that made him and his parents proud beyond words. It was a few months into his new role when his life took an interesting turn on a routine day. A Searchrider had come to Fort Hold and the dragon and rider sought him out to tell him they thought he'd made a wonderful Candidate at High Reaches. To say Fivudal was surprised was an understatement. He had seen plenty of Searchriders come to the Hold, but it was usually for younger boys and girls. He was twenty one Turns and would only be able to Stand as a Candidate for five, but how could he turn down the request? To be a dragon rider was the highest honor on Pern and who was he to deny a little dragon from finding Theirs should he be the one they were looking for?

He agreed to go back to High Reaches, putting his career on hold. Should he be chosen by a dragon he'd focus on becoming a rider, and if he aged out he had a solid path to fall back on. He was sure he'd be able to keep his skills somewhat sharp at the Weyr as well, using what little free time he'd be offered to assist in the Healer's wing, but he quickly found that any free time he had was spent doing work or sleeping. Being a Candidate was exhausting and Fivudal gained a newfound respect for each and every classmate he had, as well as those that had found their dragons. With each passing Turn he stood on the Sands, waiting for a little dragon to toddle up to him, but each hatching proved fruitless. He began to wonder if he had somehow been Searched too late, that perhaps years ago there had been a dragon for him that he had somehow missed. He knew it didn't work that way but his own worry and pessimism kept that thought circulating right up until his twenty sixth Turn. With that he was done, no longer a Candidate, and after packing up his things he returned to Fort Hold dragonless and five Turns out of practice.

The 'rejection' of sorts cut Fivudal deeper than he ever thought it would. He had been Searched, yet no dragon had picked him. Perhaps it was for the best, that his destiny lay with the scalpel and numbweed and not on dragonback. It had been a fantasy to live as a Candidate for five Turns and he eventually came to cherish the experience and the honor even though he hadn't been chosen, the potential to be a dragon rider had still been seen and that would have to be enough.

It took him a few Turns to get back into the swing of things, studying under his old teacher to brush up his skills and learn new techniques that had been learned in his absence. He dove back into healing with gusto both to put his failure behind him and because he truly did enjoy the work he was doing. Time flew by for Fivudal once he got back into his groove and it was a good thing he did, because his skills would come in very handy in the near future.

Thread returned, and with it pain, death, and destruction. Fivudal was ready for it if only because of the training he received at High Reaches, but it was still a surprise and a shock. After the initial return he found himself back at High Reaches where the need for trauma healers was fairly great to handle the riders that came back from fighting Thread with severe injuries. It had been a handful of Turns since he'd last stepped foot in the Weyr, but it was like he was back home again and he settled into his role quickly.

A surprising turn of events had Fivudal Impressing while in the middle of stitching up a young Candidate. He is now Fi'dal of green Arwainth and couldn't be more delighted.
Other: Standidate. Ages up OOCly on January 7th.

Name: Arwainth
Age: Weyrling
Color: Green
Size: 36'
Voice: X - Searching for a voice
Song: Searching for a song
Physical Description: Small and compact, this little green is perfectly proportioned as far as dragons go -- though her wedge shaped head might be just a bit too big even as an adult. It's almost like she never quite grew into it. She is a slim creature, though sturdy and not nearly as delicate as her size might appear.
Personality: How can Arwainth help you today? This is the thought that drives Arwainth from the moment she opens her eyes in the morning, and is the last thought she thinks of before she curls up to sleep at night. To say she's a helpful creature is an understatement, for this little dragon won't stop at anything if she thinks she can be of any assistance. Need someone to accompany you to the Lake? Arwainth will go! Need someone to cheer you up? Arwainth will be your personal little cheerleader. If the Weyrlingmaster needs someone to volunteer, you can bet that Arwainth is ever eager to leap into the fray. Unless, of course, someone doesn't want to be the last to go--then the little green will happily sit on her wings so they needn't be last.

Unfortunately, her eagerness to help can also turn into an eagerness to please. This small green can be a bit oblivious, and might not understand when someone is taking advantage of her desire to be helpful. Need someone to be a guard? Arwainth will happily look out for the Weyrlingmaster, while allowing a fellow to break some rule or get into trouble. Need someone to do the work for you? Arwainth's your gal! Her rider will need to keep a careful eye on this little one to ensure she isn't taken advantage of, for it would be very easy indeed--and Arwainth none the wiser.

Her good-nature means that this green won't hardly utter a bad word against another, even when it's warranted. She goes through life wearing rose-colored glasses, and wouldn't assume the worst even if it hit her on the head! It's just not Arwainth's style. While she might be distressed or upset or angry (yes, she can feel those emotions) such negativity is rare, and doesn't last long. No, too easily and too quickly Arwainth's will find a way to fix the situation, or conjure some new goal in mind. She would never hold a grudge, and instead prefers to look on the bright side of life. Everything will work out in the end, you'll see. Happily-ever-afters are this green's motto and she will believe, with every fiber of her being, that those endings are everybody's ending, no matter how bleak the current situation.

Unfortunately, Arwainth's desire to look at the best-possible-outcome (and to help ensure such a future) means she can be more than a little naive. Of course they'll all make it through weyrling trianing as the best of friends, why wouldn't they? Of course they'll all see through their training alive and well and minimally scored! Why yes, she has the utmost faith that everything will turn out right. When things do go awry, Arwainth's staunch certainty in good can help pull her through the hard times, but it also means she can come off tone-deaf during serious matters, or might drive others away by her incessant belief that some happy-ending is just around the corner.

During the rough patches life can often throw, Arwainth can struggle in reading the tone of a room. It doesn't occur to her that sometimes people need to grieve, or time to process bad news. While she might mourn the loss of a loved one, or might feel bad in the aftermath of a fight, Arwainth tends to bounce back quickly and doesn't understand why some of her peers do not. Unfortunately, seeing them in such a rough spot, will kick in a desire to help them recover as easily as she did, too! This results in her sticking her snout in places she otherwise shouldn't or overwhelming others with unwanted attention and care. Not everyone wants to be happy or helped, and not every situation will have a happy ending, and this can cause her to drive her friends and loved ones away. The path to hell is paved with good intentions, and Arwainth frequently is found skipping down that very road.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Origin of Name: One unique note is that Falabellas can also be used as guide animals due to their small size and easy trainability. Arwainth derives her name from the Welsh word for "guide", which is arwain.
Inspiration: The Falabella miniature horse is one of the smallest breeds of horse in the world, seldom taller than 8 hands (32 inches, 81 cm) in height at the withers. The Falabella, despite its size, is not considered a pony, but rather is a miniature horse. The breed is proportioned similarly to horses, other than in size. They are similar to Thoroughbreds or Arabs in their conformation, with a sleek coat and a slim frame. The Falabella’s body is small and compact. The breed also inherited some cob-like features from pony bloodlines, including sturdy bone, and a thicker hair coat, particularly the mane, tail and around the fetlocks. The head may be slightly larger and the neck is often stouter by comparison with a normal-sized horse, but overall, the animal is not unusually or abnormally proportioned.
The ancestral stock of the horse of South America descended from horses brought to the western hemisphere by the Spanish of Andalusian and other Iberian bloodlines. In the southern part of the continent, significant numbers of these horses developed within geographically isolated conditions and by the mid-19th century, there were any number of smaller, inbred animals in the herds of Mapuche of southern Buenos Aires province in Olavarría, Argentina.
The Falabella horse was originally developed in Argentina from local horses of Criollo stock, beginning in 1868 with the breeding program of Patrick Newtall. When Newtall died, the herd and breeding methods were passed to Newtall's son-in-law, Juan Falabella. Juan added additional bloodlines, including the Welsh Pony, Shetland pony, and small Thoroughbreds. With considerable inbreeding, he was able to gain consistently small size within the herd.
Beginning in the 1940s, a descendant, Julio C. Falabella, created a formal breed registry, the Establecimientos Falabella, now the Asociación de Criadores de Caballos Falabella (Falabella Horse Breeders Association), and worked to standardize the breed to reach a consistent height, first achieving an average size of under 100 cm (40 in). Later breeders developed the modern standard, a horse breed that averaged approximately 76 cm (30 in) in height.
The first Falabella horses were imported to the United States In 1962, when John Aleno of Argentina sold 12 Falabella stallions to the Regina Winery in Etiwanda, California. Aleno had purchased the stallions from Julio Falabella. The winery used them to drive a small stagecoach in parades to promote their wine. Most of the Falabella miniature horses in the United States today descend from these 12 stallions.
Positive Traits: Happy, Good-natured, Helpful
Negative Traits: Eager to Please, Naive, Oblivious
Adult Size: 18'
Age: Weyrling
Physical Attributes: Small and compact, this little green is perfectly proportioned as far as dragons go -- though her wedge shaped head might be just a bit too big even as an adult. It's almost like she never quite grew into it. She is a slim creature, though sturdy and not nearly as delicate as her size might appear.
Additional Notes: For being so small, she has a surprising amount of stamina--for a green, of course. She's hard-working, and always happy to help assist those who need it. Her flame-length, unfortunately, will always be a bit on the weak side.
As far as flights are concerned, Arwainth seems to enjoy them immensely. She's not a jealous or competitive creature, but has the possibility of leaving her suitors for others. All it takes is one suitor that didn't win to pout and she might well try to cheer them up. Arwainth certainly doesn't go out there to break hearts, but she will likely jump from partner-to-partner as she tries to help ease their lonely nights.
Impression Effect: Fivudal will find his jadedness towards others is all but shattered the moment this little green locks her eyes with him. Certainly, there are bad people out there and many who take advantage or abuse others--but not every heart is irredeemable, and those that are, are truly the minority. So focused on the bad, he's forgotten to see how much good is out there-- and Arwainth is the set of rose-colored goggles he needs. While he might never be as accepting as his green, he will find himself looking at the world with new, less cynical eyes.
Why Me? Fivudal and Arwainth are a balanced and perfect team. To start, this little green will always keep in mind her riders needs--so anytime Fivudal forgets to eat or drink or puts his needs last, this little green will be there to fuss over him, and ensure she can assist him in giving him whatever he might lack! Additionally, Arwainth will be a balm against Fivudal's self-deprecation. Where he might feel like a failure, or rip into himself when something doesn't go quite top plan, this little green will be there to pick him right back or stop him from letting those thoughts consume him. He can do no wrong in her eyes, and Fivudal will feel that constant stream of recognition and unending support.
On the flipside, Fivudal's life experience and naturally caring nature will ensure that Arwainth's naivety will be more balanced. When the best-possible-outcome doesn't happen, or tragedy hits, Fivudal should be able to help her through the surprise and pain that grips her. When something doesn't go according to her plans of a happily-ever-after, he'll be able to guide her through it and explain. Additionally, his experience in dealing with the ugly side of life also means he might temper her natural tone-deaf nature. There is a time and place to encourage folks to move on or look for greener pastures, and there is a time to grieve. Fivudal will also be able to ensure that Arwainth's not taken advantage of by those who are less pure-of-heart. Even with a less-jaded outlook on life, he has experience and knowledge enough to know when someone is being cruel or unkind--or is using his precious little girl!
